Now that The Offspring don't have any more tour dates for the time being, what's next for them? Could it finally be a proper tour, or another album?

Video for Kristy, a major tour, maybe another video or two, then a new album.

But I really think they're gonna use this break to promote at least another single, such as Kristy or Shit is Fucked Up.

When you said "another video or two", did that mean that The Offspring could be planning more singles for RAFRAG?

That's what I meant. I'm expecting three or four total. We know Kristy's gonna be a single and there are other songs on that album that have potential. I think Half-Truism, Stuff, and Rock Bottom are all very likely to become singles.

I assume "Stuff Is Messed Up" will probably be next, because I know about last month or before, KROQ had been playing that song before it was Kristy's turn to be played on the air.

I imagine that they will take a break to spend time with their families and hit the road again in the new year. Hopefully, it will be time for their world tour and no more festivals.

They will do the Kristy video, go on a US tour (per Dexter), possibly release a 4th single, and possibly tour outside the US. After that a small break and then record the next album. Noodles said they were only looking to tour a year for this album and that they wanted to get back to the studio.

Well, for the time being I think they deserve a break. Let Greg change some poopy diapers, let Noodles get more drunk and surf, let Pete and Andrew do whatever they want and let Dexter take care of Business and his planes.

BUT when they're back, I demand a proper tour and it's high time they released a fucking LIVE DVD.

Yeah, according to this interview (http://www.kroq-data.com/wah/wah/dcvideo/avc-view.aspx?v=3411), The Offspring are going to take a break for a little while before going back on the road again next year.

In a time when we get live concerts streamed live over the internet a live DVD is kind of superfluous. A live album, I could go for if they did it correctly.

Tomasisko

I think RAFRAG can't be compared with Splinter, they are different, and RAFRAG is way better!

My comparing is very simple. I divide songs into 3 categories: great, good, nothing special :)

Splinter
Great: The Noose, Long Way Home, Can't Get My Head Aroud You, Never Gonna Find Me, Lightning Rod, Da hui
Good: Neocon, Hit That, Spare Me The Details
Nothing special: Race Against Myself, The Worst Hangover Ever, When You're In Prison

RAFRAG
Great: Trust In You, Hammerhead, Takes Me Nowhere, Nothingtown, Stuff Is Messed Up
Good: Half-Truism, You're Gonna Go Far Kid, A Lot Like Me, Rise and Fall
Nothing special: Kristy Are You Doing Okay, Fix You, Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom

great songs: Splinter 5, RAFRAG 5
good songs: Splinter 3, RAFRAG 4
nothing special: Splinter 3, RAFRAG 3

So the result is veeeery similiar for me. The simplest comparing is how much do you like every song :)

Personally, I would actually be disappointed if they decided to do a live CD, live DVD, or acoustic CD. I want NEW songs... and when I say NEW, that could mean either another album, or a B-sides compilation.

I have found from experience (from bands like Hoobastank, Shinedown, Bullet for My Valentine, and Fall Out Boy) that when bands re-release a successful album as a "Special Edition" or "Deluxe Edition", etc, and add a few B-sides, I usually like them about as much, if not more, than the original album songs. I can't stand to think that there are Offspring songs that no one's ever heard that could potentially be my favorites.

I think they should release a B-Sides album with upwards of 40 or 50 songs on it. Considering they recorded or wrote approx 20+ songs for RAFRAG, I would LOVE to hear the other 8+, not to mention albums like Smash and Americana. Imagine more Smash or Americana songs...

What's up with a live album craziness? The songs would be new or from the previous albums? Their time is precious and they should be more productive with studio albums. Also, they are not that type of the classic rock band doing live albums. They are studio album perfectionists.

Acoustic album, meh. Dexter's voice is not very impressive on acoustics.

(I would approve of MTV unplugged but without the delay of the next studio album.)

B-sides album, I'm very practical about it. Do it, after the career.

I think of all the songs on the album, A Lot Like Me would have made the best music video. Of course I originally thought YGGFK would have been the best, but the band has to be in the video to be any good IMO, so...

I picture A Lot Like Me as the band playing in the same manner as the I Choose music video except its pouring rain. Also, there is a story line with a man and woman that follows with the lyrics, and once or twice when one looks in the mirror and sees the other. Anyway... that's my take on it. Too bad it'll prob never happen.

Yeah, but that's the lyrics:

Pouring rain would make it a powerful video IMO

Well I don't want SIMU for a single because it will have to be butchered to be put on the air, plus there are stronger songs IMO.

I think Half-Truism should be #4, although if I was choosing just for a music video, then it would be ALLM. Half-Truism seems like it has the same kind of potential as YGGFK.

This is what The Offspring will be doing for the next few years:

2009:

January-July

Touring and every now and then updating the site with maybe new Band Journals.

July-November

Dexter announces new album for 2010. More touring follows.

November-December

They spend Christmas with their families..... In Jamaica. Noodles smokes a spliff or two. Greg K does an Interview.

2010:

January-March

Dexter updates the site saying "Yeah we recorded some guitar riffs today, they sound really cool. Probably the best stuff we've done in a while.". Noodles smokes another spliff.

March-June

Dexter updates the site yet again saying "Today we laid down some vocals and backup vocals. I tell you what, that pot has really helped Noodles with the backup vocals! That is some miracle medicine right there!". Dexter smokes a spliff.

June-December

Dexter updates the site saying "You guys keep wanting us to update the site. Well here is the update."

2011:

January-December

...Nothing.

2012:

January-July

Dexter updates the site saying "ALRIGHT we've recorded 10 demos sofar. Two or three demos so far have had some rasta influences, mainly because Noodles and I have been cranking up Bob Marley in our tourbus while Greg sits quietly in his private mini-lounge reading the latest from J.K. Rowling. Just letting you guys know whassup."

July-December

The Offspring release their ninth studio album entitled "Road Rash Blues", with Dexter sounding like Axl Rose due to heavy usage of marijuana, and we are surprised to find a lot of Jimmy Hendrix-style solos from Noodles. Again, the pot. Joey Jordison from Slipknot provided drums for the record. Greg K publishes a book entitled "Greg K: Caught In The Middle Between Potheads."

Ron Welty and Steadyground FINALLY find success... In Asia.

Ok, I'll admit it. Maybe my definition of punk is not the common... but I think that if a band makes what they want, and not fan service like bad religion with process... well, that's punk

Damn, I wish that his style of music becomes heavier, perhaps metal.
No such little more noise and chaos, do not believe it?.
The punk is a state of mind, Hammerhead is the feeling of wanting to destroy, remove everything off the way.

I don't agree, even though i am into metal (metallica, mortal sin, megadeth etc)

I mean the offspring are good at what they do, they already have a metal influence,

But they NEED to do more GOOD solos..
Not these slow solos (Vultures, YGGFK, Rise and fall etc)

But they need to do more self titled/igniton style solos, noodles is more than capible to do them.

The band cut about 3 songs from Splinter, as Greg K mentioned in some Dutch radio interview; there is also a magazine article/interview thing with Dexter just before Splinter's release, when he mentioned a track that didn't end up appearing on the final product. They cut about 13+ tracks from the RAFRAG sessions. And aside from those, there are no doubt a couple tracks around from either the Ixnay, Americana, Smash, Ignition, S/T, sessions, that they never told anyone about or even released; in fact i'd be very surprised if there wasn't any.

There is also stuff like the infamous Dirty Magic re-recording, Ring of Fire cover, and a few other things.

Oh, I know what you're talking about. I was talking about all the b-sides from there singles and other cut tracks that we know about by name. I would like to see those cut track, though, but they may use them for the next album. We never know.

They did, and i want it. Dexter even made a point of mentioning it in a couple journal entries.

People are asking us about possibly doing some festivals in Europe this summer, which would be fun, but we thought it would be better to stay home and work on songs for another record. What do you think?

Well, I guess that‘s it for now. Oh yeah, did I tell you guys that we re-recorded Dirty Magic last year?
http://www.offspring.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Offspring.woa/wa/journal?journal=427609

and

The version of Dirty Magic we recorded last year is an electric version with drums. That song is kind of special to us because it‘s one of those requests we always get from our most hardcore fans. Unfortunately, most people don‘t know the song, cause most people don‘t know our music from before Smash. We always thought that it was a good song, but that we could do a better job recording it now than we could back then. So we did it, and Atom played on it. It sounds great. I‘m not sure if it will come out someday or what. Maybe if you guys are really really nice…
