When looking for info about my copy of Club Me that came today on Wikipedia, I stumbled upon this. Is this real? Does anyone posses this item?

Thanks :)

Yeah, that was the question I asked. If this is a bootleg, then what is the real single like? Or does it excist at all? Is there any official hard copies of this single?

I don't know if that's the actual cover to the single or some bootleg, but whatever it is, it's just a cover to some rare collector's item.

Since Wikipedia said it was a official single and had charted (I know, Wikipedia isn't reliable), I didn't think it could be a bootleg, and did not go to offspringbootlegs.info. :)

is reliable (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smash_It_Up#Cover) with a link to billboard.com (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/retrieve_chart_history.do?model.vnuArtistId=23138&model.vnuAlbumId=1143767) to prove that this is a single.

yeah, that's what I thought, but all these people says it isn't a single.

Whats the difference between a single and a promo anyway?

Greekoldfan

it wasn't a hard copy single.it was taken from batman forever soundtrack.also it was the 3rd track in all i want single and club me e.p. in 1997(also a live version from glastonbury is available on the meaning of life single).the radios played it back in 1995 as new offspring cover track (original by the damned) because it was in the movie, but it wasn't released as a single.i've got this bootleg and it is a good bootleg.some tracks can be in the charts but it doesn't means necessary they have been released as singles

promos are given out to radio stations.. stuff like that, to promote songs funnily enough. they usually dont have any b-sides other than various edits of songs (longer/shorter versions, shorter clips of songs, censored versions... etcetera) they also *generally* wont have artwork or artwork on the cd.. if you seen one on ebay and didnt know what it was, you could be mistaken for thinking someone made it very crudely at home. promos are available for stuff that wasnt a single (such as smash it up, kick him when hes down, totalimmortal..) but singles always have promo versions, but not every song there is a promo of has a single to match. some countries might have promos that isnt in another country.. japan, example.. had walla walla and staring at the sun as promos, which didnt make it to promo or even single in the rest of the world (please dont start, japan-getting-cool-stuff haters).

now, i cant remember the jist of how billboard and related nonsense works out the listings, and how a promo can be on the chart, but if its anything like how the publishing houses work, there is A LOT more than just single sales that go into the single chart (i know. strange.) downloads count now, but that wouldnt be the case 15 years ago. perhaps something to do with radio plays, requests... or even how many times the particular song was used in relation to the movie... how many people seen the movie that particular week.... i dont know.

singles are those little things you buy with a couple bsides, fancy cover, and usually come along with a video for it.

so to clarify a couple of things:
the cover of smash it up posted is obviously a bootleg, which has been confirmed, yadda yadda.
there IS a smash it up promo (NOT a single) which has nothing to do with the bootleg, and has the very boring primative "artwork".

ooft and i am spent. cigarette, please.

I still prefer biilboard.com instead of a personal opinion.

It's not Blackball_'s opinion. He's right. Smash It Up was only released as a promo to radio stations, the same as Bad Habit, KHWHD or Spare Me the Details. It had no artwork, it was just plain CD with The Offspring: Smash It Up written on it. This artwork is from a bootleg.

yes sure, billboard.com (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/retrieve_chart_history.do?model.vnuArtistId=23138&model.vnuAlbumId=1143767) and allmusic.com (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:3pfqxqt5ldfe~T51) say bullshit....but whatever, who cares
