Punknews.org (http://www.punknews.org/article/32193) reported today that Rancid's been finished with their new album and are readying for a spring 2009 release. Here's what the band had to say:

Our good friend and producer Brett Gurewitz has finished mixing our new record set to release around spring of this year. We've all been working real hard along side Brett on this record and we are all real proud of how its turning out. As it's release comes nearer we will get you more details on everything we've been working on.

We will also be hitting the road hard this year. As you may have heard we've confirmed a 2 month North American Tour with Rise Against. This will be a great opportunity to play you some of our new songs live in addition to a mix of songs spanning the entire history of Rancid. We like to play a new set every night to keep it fresh and interesting for all of us! We like to do a little something from every Rancid record giving every night a unique show from the one before.

Any Rancid fans out here excited for the new album? I am!

This thing has been taking forever; i mean, i read somewhere that they had allegedly finished mixing last April, but i guess that was wrong. And i thought the Offspring and Dillinger Four took a long time to record things.....

Still, i can't wait to hear the new Lars songs; and Tim's solo record was pretty good, i wonder if there's going to be a bigger ska influence on this record then the last couple?

The tour with Rise Against is also kind of weird, since it's probably going to be a huge venue; but i'll still end up going, as long as my schedule will allow.

I'm not too excited about it. I mean ... and Out Come the Wolves was a killer record, yeah, but their other releases were only mediocre. Each with one or two good tracks, but that was about it. Still I will definitely check this out.

i'm lookin forward to this one, all there albums are sasfe, but personally i thought indestuctible was one of the better ones...and also the stuff they've been putting out since 2000 has been good, so hopefully this new record shud be good.....even if it has taken aaaages

It's a common theme for them, since their new cd is taking forever as well.

I've always felt that Industructable got a lot of undeserved hate. I mean, i personally think it was one of their weaker albums, but it has some great tracks.

Just because Social D is taking forever on their new record doesn't mean there's any doubt that it'll ever be released or whatever. I'm sure they're trying not to be in a hurry.

They haven't found much time to record because they are always booking shows and Mike Ness' solo tour is taking up some time.

The cover is really boring and random. All the other covers have been interesting or cool to look at, but this is just a boring band photo. I think it is kinda lame to have your face smeared all over the place. And of course Tim is standing in the front...

This one is on Hellcat which is a subsidary label off Epitaph. All vinyls are being sold through Epitaph, and all CDs are being sold through Warner Bros.
You'd be surprised how much a move from an indie to a major can change the music.

I just heard Rancid's new song on my local indie station, and I gotta say, it was pretty decent. I tend to find Rancid's songs to get repetitive (and it was), but it had a good sound. They stand out from the typical pop-punk vein in some ways. I give it a B. :)

I just bought the expanded edition of Let The Dominoes Fall today. It contains 2 CDs - the regular album, and the second CD is an acoustic version of the album (12 songs). The package also contains a DVD about the making of the album. I think it was worth the money (actually i thought it was kind of cheap, 17 € - this is the usual price of regular albums here for albums without bonus stuff, the ones with bonus material are usually more expensive).

It also has 3 posters, and 4 guitar picks (you know what comes next, don't you :D)

Yep, they tossed guitar picks to the crowd, with rancid-ish artwork on it...

Interesting, i actually didn't see any regular version CDs in the store where i bought it. They only had these expanded versions. I don't complain :D

edit: Now that i've listened to the album i think it's very good, and it's growing on me (same case was with Indestructible - i thought it was good, and when time passed it got even better). The only complaint i have is the DVD documentary - it's only black and white, done in the same fashion as the artwork, and it doesn't work that good. But still it's a nice extra.

And about the complaints that they sold out, lost their energy, and done something different: Jesus Christ, these guys are aging too, just like everyone. But the record is still good and it contains quite some energy. So what if it's a bit different, if it was the same as their previous ones there would still be complaints (probably from the other or maybe even from the same spectrum of fans). And how the hell does this sound like they sold out? WTF? Listening to the album i didn't get the impression of the polished pop rock/so called "emo" (i said so-called because real emo from early ninties/late eighties was something entirely different) sound that is prominent in today's mainstream. If they would want to "sell out" (damn i hate this term), wouldn't you think they would start playing music like that?

I bought the expanded version, and I've listened to the record. First of all: Rancid is now officially a country band. Half the record was country, a quarter folk music and the rest some ska.
If you're listening to the first records (which could be categorized in punk), then you would not think this was the same band.
The ska songs were good, but after a while you hear it is songs which are just like Common Rider. I couldn't tell the difference between Rancid's "I ain't worried" and Common Rider's "Small Peble".

Also, Tim sings like a retard, someone should cut his throat and let Lars and Matt do the singing. The lyrics are not very clever either. They sing about how punk they are, their roots and girls. It feels like the lyrics were written in 10 minutes.

And so what if they have aged? The Exploited's music are getting harder and harder as the years go by, even though Wattie Buchan is 53 years old.
This album is not directely bad, but I wouldn't call it a good album. The album just is okay, with only a few songs sticking out of the sea of mediocre country/folk music.

The new one, like Tim's solo album is a perfect summer record. Not a masterpiece, but it's really fun and catchy.
