View Full Version : Question: Conductive 'sticker" on pickgaurds.

You will notice if you lift your pickgaurd off your electric guitar, that it probably has a conductive foil-like sticker on it just above the volume and tone mechanisms. What exactly does it do, and is it totally necessary to have it? what are the effects of not having it?
I think it just protects the pickguard a bit. I took it off. It's not like there have been some serious changes.

I'll add to this: It's supposed to be a sort of shielding. I don't think it's 100% necessary but it's good to have, as it's somewhat noise canceling. If you have a pickguard completely covered by it (or better yet, an aluminum cutout that sits under your pickguard such as this (http://store.guitarfetish.com/alstpishunsc.html) one), it will cancel out the static noises (not completely but mostly)
