So, recently, I've been listening to the New Pornographers pretty much non-stop. Even though I realize they're not the most obscure band ever, I still feel the need to pimp them out here.

Essentially, they're very smart, catchy power-pop, and in my opinion, have never made an album that wasn't incredibly solid and well done all the way through.

Anyone else here into them?

Also, a list of songs to check out for those curious:

1.) The Laws Have Changed
2.) The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism
3.) The Jessica Numbers
4.) Challengers
5.) Twin Cinema
6.) My Rights Verses Yours

I feel like this is a pretty good list that'll let you see all of their various sides.

I saw them live. Neko Case was sick and couldn't perform. They were really good, but it was still disappointing.

They're still a really fun band, but I feel like A.C. Newman's voice is way too falsetto'd and a little ridiculous because of that, so I end up liking Case's vocals much more than his, even though he's technically the lead singer of the band.

They're a band I've been on the fence about a lot. I used to have them on my iTunes (y'know, because of Rock Band), but I deleted them after a while. I got bored of them, I guess. But, this was like a year ago, and my taste in music's always changing. So I'll probably download their stuff again sometime soon.

I kind of agree, but Newman's voice doesn't really bother me all that much.
Also, Newman's songs >>>>> Bejar's songs. Like, by a lot. This is mostly true on the last two albums.

Newman's voice isn't perfect by any means, but it fits their music so perfectly that I can't complain. But I do agree that Case's vocals tend to be the best, and I usually prefer songs that focus on her.

I'm a pretty big fan of Dan Bejar (I love his other band, Destroyer) but I do agree that Newman's songs are always the strongest.

Hm, interesting point, and very on topic, as well.

It was a little joke. And YOU'RE post was off-topic too then. Also, you caused me to have to respond to you. Look what you've done!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jakebert is angry about the soundtrack used by Juno. But Nick and Norah is an awesome movie.

That would make sense.

In this Other Bands thread, Jakebert discusses the sweet music of love.

I actually went to their Myspace, and I'll recommend checking out this band. I like their songwriting style and the kind of melodies they come up with. I don't usually like this kind of music though, so I don't know how much I'll get into it.
