Earlier today I was cruising on 4chan for fun. And then someone is posting this message everywhere:

Copy and paste the following to Notepad, save it as 4chan.js, open the file you saved and shit bricks.
O HAI GAIZ DON'T USE THIS CODE OR U'LL EFF UP UR B0X.
I think: "Oh well, what is so fasinating about this?" and does exactly what is written. Nothing happens, and I just delete the file I saved and go on with my life. 20 minutes later perhaps, my Anti-Virus programme tells me that something is trying to change my system, and asks if I want to accept that. I'm very suspicious and blocks the operation. Then I'm going to My Documents to fin a pic, and that's when I realize what I have done. The whole containment of My Documents is gone! It brightens up to me that it was that notepad thing that did this! All my documents, music and images are gone! 2 years of homework is gone! I feel so stupid! The guy posting this was right, I shitted bricks!

The blocking of the operation I did was the script that I made with notepad trying to delete my programmes. Luckily I said no to that. I'm going to ask the technical responsible on my shcool on Monday if he can do anything with this.

How stupid am I?

P.S. Does anyone know a programme that can retrieve lost files?

try posting this in the computer problems thread. someone there may be able to help you and they might not read this thread.

I have some advice. Restore your computer to before you created the program. You can get your files back pretty easily.

Start > run > msconfig > restore system

Thatís exactly what I was going to suggest.

As long as your work, files, ect were stored on your primary drive, then just restore your computer. Hopefully that should work.

System restore doesn't work that way. It only restores important system files and settings, not all your data.

It worked for me when I accidentally deleted my files on my laptop.

You may want to try using some program for data recovery. Not sure if it's gonna bring all your lost files back to life, but why not give it a go anyway.

I can't think of anything particular at the moment, just google "data recovery" and you'll find something.

EDIT: Uh, you were asking for a program... I used to have a good one but I can't recall its name right now. As I say, find something on Google.

LUL I don't believe that this will delete my files so I'll try it!

Was posting the script really necessary? I bet someone is stupid enough to actually try it.
Which in a sense is a good reason to post it, now that I think about it. That idiot would really
deserve it.

I wouldn't try it. I'm pretty sure that my antivirus would detect it as soon as I saved it, though. Avast thinks everything is a virus, even stuff that isn't sometimes.

Yeah! I used to use Avast with Xp, now I donít bother with Vista.

It's pretty good for a free antivirus. My computer hasn't crashed due to a virus since I have it, and I've had it for a couple years :]

Itís either Avast doing a damn good job, or youíre downloading a lot less porn. ;)

Yeah, this thread was made also because I wanted to warn people about this. Learn from my incredible stupid mistake.
And it isn't a virus, it is just a script. It's like a program that you design.

And my technical responsible guy on my school got some of my files back, and luckily most of my homework. He used a program I don't remember what is called :)
