View Full Version : Artist of the Month, April '09: The Fisticuffs

Because no one did this for Randy, I'm doing it for Randy. Randy, you know we care about you.

Randman21 was born into humble beginnings on the planet of Mars. His father and ancestors before him worked in the mines of the nearby moon, Phobos. Randman knew this was not the destiny that stood before him. When he turned 9 years old, the Martian equivalent to 18 Earth years, he decided to leave his home planet and venture to a planet where he could express his artistic imagination: Earth.

Upon arrival, however, his talent was met with little attention. After several attempts and eventual failure, he was on his last stretch of hope. If he didn't make a name for himself, it was off back to Mars and the mines. After an epic show at a local club, a small, unknown band took notice of his talent and asked him to sing for their band. They were The Fisticuffs, featuring drummer Josh Freese, Guitarist Jesus Christ and Bassist Chuck Norris. After 3 short practices, they began recording their debut album.

The album, This Album Is So Awesome, You Have No Fucking Idea was released to unsatisfactory results, only selling 4 million units in the United States. After such a failure, they buckled down for their next album.

This album was Out Next Album. It was so incredible, it launched the band to superstardom. It's success could only be matched by the next five albums, Hey, Are You Still Listening, What's That Smell?, Earth Just Shit It's Pants, Try Not to Jizz Yourself, and Rise and Rise, Kiss Our Ass. With quintuple diamond certifications for all seven of their albums, The Fisticuffs can be hailed as the greatest band ever to have been conceived.

Randman21 is currently writing and recording on the already 7x platinum duet album, Yes, I Know, with Venus native, _Lost_. Special guest appearances will include Dexter Holland, Mark Hoppus, Outerspaceman21, The Who, Elton John, The recently reformed Led Zeppelin, and John Lennon (Yes, JOHN LENNON!)

I'm pretty sure that’s how it went, Randy. Feel free to clear any inconsistencies.

Holy Fuck! You weren't kidding. It's an honor to have such a clearly fine historian as yourself biographize my life and my work. Every bit of it is true. I'm so not gonna cut you anymore.

At first I thought this was a serious artist of the month thread. heh then I lol'd. That's awesome Outerspaceman21, and as I know Randy personaly, I confirm that it's all nothing but the truth...

I'd call the fisticuffs artist of the year for all the new stuff that Randy's done since January (and even a bit before then). And all the new stuff to come. All that's really missing is band members....

My thoughts exactly. But then again, he needs a real AotM thread, so this one is alright.;)

I assumed Randy would be carrying on into May - there's only a week left in April, after all.

Also, much deserved - catchy tunes with some sweet production! And I like the vocal harmonies - reminds me of early UVR.

EDIT - Never noticed quite how catchy Jayne rhymes with Pain is, but there's totally a riff/fill in there that I recognize from somewhere.

Guys, I absolutely swear that a) I'm 22 and b) I'm sober.

I was just listening to Big as Life again, and in my head it totally converted to an Asian accent, and I found it hilarious.

Thank you, friends! I'm very happy to know that my near-crippling fear of starting my music thread over a year ago was unfounded. This makes my inability to round up band mates a little more tolerable.

Yeeeeah, I appreciate that. I actually credit you and Mike with the vocal harmonies thing. You guys are like my musical heroez on the boards, so on the last BBS Mixtape when you guys commented on the lack of harmonies, I decided to go ahead and tackle that area of my songwriting. It's something I rarely ever bothered about before that.

Re: EDIT - Haha, that's no surprise. It sounds almost identical to the riff in "One Fine Day". Strangely enough, though, I came up with it a few years before I got into the Offspring.

you use to be de oan who took id all

Hilarious, indeed. I've seriously had this thought before (and I often sing it this way), but I've never considered writing it down. Looks awesome.

Well, I heard Elvis Presley and John Lennon wanted to come back from the dead to beg Randy for a participation on his album. But only one of them could come to Earth, so, they got into a fight. Hmm... it seems like Mr. Lennon has won!

Wow....it's actually quite kickass :D I didn't realize you guys had put up new material since the last time I visited your Myspace (quite some time ago, sadly). I'll have to start keeping tabs on your stuff; I'm slowly building up a mixtape of all of the different songs written by different BBS members that I carry around on my person, and this is a fine addition~

So I heard someone mention that you guys have put out a lot of material recently? Is there anywhere we can hear it outside of your Myspace (i.e. do you have a purevolume account, or something)?

P.S. Jayne Rhymes w/Pain....I like. Don't care if the riff is similar or not; I think anyone who's ever written a song before can sympathize with discovering (long after the fact) that a part of their song sounds a little like something else. It's not anywhere close to enough to offset the song, though --- just causes a little reminiscence. And I hardly think it's a bad thing when a song makes you think of the Offspring :)

Here's to a happy, well-deserved AOM: April for Teh Fisticuffs!

Thanks a lot! It's great to get that seal of approval from awesome musi-shee-ons such as yourself. Yep, I have a put out a bit more stuff since I showed you the myspace ages ago. It took a while, but the ball is finally rolling. But not like you guys. :D

I have a soundclick (http://www.soundclick.com/thefisticuffs) account. There's more stuff there than on the myspace, but it's still not all of it. I think I'll steal your idea and upload all the songs and post the links here...eventually.
