Jim Carrey - THE BEST comedian ever? What do you think?

http://www.theatlantic.com/images/issues/200812/jim-carrey-wide.jpg

I absolutely think so. He got all this incredibly childish humour, but also really serious and dramatic stuff.
Well, I don't know what more to say, he's just incredible. Really funny, hahah.
He's done pretty many movies and shows now, but let me show ya some random videos I found on youtube now!

It's a common mistake. If you look on YouTube, you will see all these "Jim Carrey SNL" videos, but in fact, all that was "In Living Color". He may have hosted SNL at some point, though.

Earlier, when I said he is one of my favorites, I meant favorite actors. And these (along with "Man on the Moon"), are why.

Aha, okey. Yeah, the last video I posted in the topic is from SNL, I think.
And yes, he's a goddamn good actor. One of the best ones there too. Both actor and comedian.

Ace Ventura was a good movie. Funny stuff.

This; on all accounts.

Specifically though, his more 'dramatic' stuff is indeed a treat to watch; i loved Stranger Than Fiction.

I think that, if we're comparing Ferrell to Carrey, Carrey is the superior actor, while Ferrell is the superior improv comedian. Ferrell is great at on-the-spot live comedy, but his acting itself is pretty bad. Carrey... is funny when he's given a script, and he's quite a good actor. However, Carrey is an improv situation is fairly groan-worthy to watch.

My favorite Carrey movies are Liar Liar and the Cable Guy (I thought that movie was just so odd that I really liked it). The Mask and Ace Ventura are good throwback movies for me that I loved as a kid, as well. His newer stuff fails to impress me.

And for Ferrell, I love Anchorman... also enjoyed Step Brothers and Blades of Glory... but generally find all his movies to start to blur together after a while.

my feelings were hurt? no, it just makes me sad to think that people could have such horrible fucking taste. people like jerry seinfeld, george carlin, louis c.k., jerry lewis, richard pryor, rodney dangerfield, eddie murphy, steve martin, etc etc, are actually brilliant, and quite funny.

Jim Carrey used to be one of my favourite actors I loved him in the mask and in ace ventura pet detective. Now he does look like a really annoying person and he reminds me a lot of mr bean with his annoyingness!

My favourite films of his now are The truman show, and I guess Batman forever of course! and Me, myself and Irene. Ace Ventura (the first one, not the one in africa) is great for kids. So that's why I enjoyed it more when I was a kid.

I definately think he's one of the best comedians! I have no idea who Will Ferell is.

Correct beyond all deniability.

I don't even consider Jim Carrey a comedian, because his stand ups are more or less awful, and about 90% of his skit stuff for tv shows he done were awful too.

However I love his movies. I consider him an actor.

But yes, Dylan Moran is the funniest comedian I've ever seen.

Not the best comedian...he's quite annoying and stupid at times, but he's good in most of his movies. I love the Truman Show and Bruce Almighty.

I agree with whoever said Dylan Moran, he's great, and i love his accent. I was supposed to be going to see him in September, but nobody else wanted to go
Also, Tommy Tiernan, back a few years ago (his "Live" DVD was one of the funniest things i've ever seen)...he's absolute shite now.

Some Tommy Tiernan stuff has made me chuckle, other stuff has been absolutely dredful to the point where I had to turn it off.

But again, Dylan Moran > everyone else.

I'm glad nobody has mentioned Billy Connely. I like him, he's good. But it's so, so annoying, everyone seems to think he's the best comic ever, when he's really really not. Saying something in a silly voice doesn't make it funny.

Also, Bill Bailey.

There's something about people naming Carlin that gets me just as much as if they'd said Will Ferrell.

Don't get me wrong, Carlin was pretty funny and he did have a mild case of social commentary, but the love surrounding that dude.

Ugh.

Though I suppose everyone's got their redeeming factors. I despise Will Ferrell but I will admit he was quite good in Stranger Than Fiction, thanks to whoever mentioned it. Quite entertaining movie.

Am I the only one who can't stop a mild twinge of annoyance when people name dead comedians, though - honestly?
