View Full Version : Half-Truism's chart position

I don't know if this site is accurate or not, but it seems to be a chart update every day, so we don't have to wait weekly.

http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insideradio/charts.asp?format=5&showyear=y&dpt=n

Says it's entered the chart at #34. Not bad for less than a week, it'll probably be past 30 by the time Billboard updates the chart. If Half-Truism charts well enough, the album will probably enter the Top 200 once again, and we can get a true sales update.

EDIT: changed a confusing sentence.

Who cares. Fuck. Green Day is only up there because people still remember American Idiot. Meanwhile, no one knows that Splinter even exists.

Hammerhead did the same thing as Know Your Enemy did when it first debuted. It's the new-album hype. It debuted at #5, which is nearly unheard of. It was only stopped at #2 thanks to Pork and Beans, which spent 11 weeks at the top. Green Day doesn't have that kind of competition this time around. Know Your Enemy is a good, catchy song, but it's just a typical punk rocker, much like Hammerhead and Half-Truism. It has no sort of novelty. By the time Half-Truism climbs higher, it'll be gone.

EDIT: Moved to #33.

I was kinda hoping that Green Day bashing was dead by now.

Omni

I fucking love Green Day, almost as much as the Offspring. I've been tempted to vote for them in the other thread just because Half-Truism has such a commanding lead, and I think Know Your Enemy is a worthy addition to any Green Day album. Billie Joe and Dexter are equally great songwriters and vocalists, and Mike Dirnt is my favorite bassist ever. Armstrong can't hold a candle to Noodles of course, but this is getting dumb. Either Green Day or the Offspring made a snide comment to each other years ago (I'm not even sure who started it), and people just won't let it rest.

Omni
05-17-2009, 10:55 AM
also, according to the charts, Half-Truism got the second biggest increase in percentage yesterday. The biggest was the song at #7, Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant. So things are looking up.

Mediabase tracks radio airplay, not sales.

Yes, but Billboard tracks album sales, and we'll surely find an update somewhere if Half-Truism brings RaF,RaG back into the 200.

What's this about no one knowing about Splinter, Hit That went to #1.

Anyways, I hope H-T pulls RAFRAG back into the BB200, I want some accurate sales figures, rather than someone bullshitting numbers.

Just moved to #32. The song right above it is called "Last Man Standing," I encourage everyone to go listen to it on Youtube. It's a badass song, it deserves to be Top 10 at least.

He said that, in comparison to Green Day, The Offspring doesn't have a hugely successful previous album to ride the wave of.

I agree. Splinter only had one number one hit and sold only 500,000 copies for a gold status.

Whereas Green Day's american idiot had several hit songs (one even winning a grammy) and sold 5,000,000 million copies.

I love every single Offspring album. In my mind, not a bad song on any album. I love every Green Day song pre-American Idiot (AKA, i liked Green Day when they wore vibrant punk colors, not all black). I think that that album killed the band. In my mind, that album defined the new millennium and set the stage for many crappy bands to make similar crappy music. Of course, there are bands that (despite all of the shitty "emo" bands around) still can make good music. The Offspring, for example.

I agree with that statement, especially the part about Green Day's image. The all black thing is weird.

Yeah, the song is pretty much dead. I don't know why this one tanked so badly. It's not the most radio friendly song, but the chorus is fairly catchy, and it's a steady rocker, so I didn't see this coming. Well, if they already shot the video for Stuff is Messed Up, we might get a fifth single, but this pretty much marks the end of this album's promotion with the exception of the tour.

It might climb another couple of spots, but it's done.

Well, I guess there's a chance this could still climb fairly high. I've been looking at it's position daily instead of weekly, it's only been on the charts for like a month, so I guess it's easy to forget that.

Hopefully SIMU will still be released as a single, if a video has already been shot.

I don't know, and I didn't see a reason, it just said it was closed. Probably because it does the same thing that Billboard does but for free. I don't know why anyone would pay for a Billboard.com subscription unless you needed it for buisness reasons.

Still at #23. It's been behind that Saving Abel song this entire time. But the Distubed song stopped gaining plays, and it's at #21, so it looks like we'll pass it before too long. So at least one more spot is attainable.

randman21
06-18-2009, 07:02 PM
Billboard does soooooo much more than chart info and such. I think you're right about it being mostly about the music business itself. Radio and Records was a good site for those who don't care about all that other stuff. R.I.P.

bighead384
06-18-2009, 07:19 PM
Damn...I thought for sure Half-Truism was bound for the top 15 or top 10. That's surprising. I hope it catches on and makes it at least somewhere around the top 10.

A lot of songs in the top 20 right now are just old songs lingering around or are just shitty songs. Also, why does Green Day have two singles going at once? That's retarded. Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon is still in there? Second Chance by Shinedown? Kids by MGMT? C'mon, it's time for something new. Those songs are all 6+ months old.

Omni
06-20-2009, 12:33 AM
The thing is, those songs are having really slow declines, so we may start to slip down before they get to us.

New Kings of Leon song is about to push us back down to 24, but we're about to overtake the Disturbed song, so I think our spot at 23 is still secure. The only way we can hope to advance this next week is if we pass both the Disturbed and Saving Abel song, and that stupid Saving Abel song has been climbing at exactly the same rate.

It was down to #25 earlier today. it's still increasing it plays, but it's increasing like .08%, and there are several songs behind it coming up like 2 or 3%. So, it's not going to climb anymore. #23 is it's peak.

Smash_Returns

Omni

No. It only increased .01% yesterday. It's done, all we can do is hope that SIMU is released, since they already shot a video for it.

Oh well, #1 (11 weeks), #2, and #7, we've never done that well before in one album. One of them was bound to tank, can't win 'em all, right?

That's one way of thinking about it, but I still don't get why this song in particular wasn't able to at least get to number 15 or something. At this point, you couldn't even say that "basically everyone who listens to rock radio has heard it once". Which is pretty bad for an Offspring single.
