First you steal our Miis, now you steal our retarded arm flailing! *shakes fist angrily*

This makes me laugh so hard. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_txF7iETX0)

People are going to hurt more than their Wii-motes with this.

Sony's motion controller looks better.

EDIT: But this still looks freaking sweet.

Now if only it actually works as well as the video shows. Remember the EyeToy for PS2?

Wait, is this one of those concept projects that aren't actually real yet, or is this actually happening?

I think its actually happening.

Yeah. If they can start by finally releasing a console that doesn't explode one in three times, that'll be a major improvement.

This looks as lame as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPktSU3HYQM&feature=related. I mean it's SO cheesy, to me it's even insulting, the advertisement assumes that I'm an imbecile and tries to impress me.
The games look very corny, the tires changing dad is hilarious. Wow, what a great fun!
That kid on Godzilla thing was FOLLOWING not controlling.
Boo, what an expensive way to do a shitty adv.

I don't believe anything of that before I've seen it with my own eyes.

If that works I want one.

But I don't trust it either... I like Microsoft but everytime they release something "revolutionnary" it takes 3 or 4 years to become a good product. Sometimes they even stop trying to make it better... like Windows Vista...

I will say this, often times when Microsoft wants to compete they can do a damn impressive job...

Yeah. If they can start by finally releasing a console that doesn't explode one in three times, that'll be a major improvement.

... but then you made this point and my argument went right out the window :)

I've done a little research into this sort of human-machine interaction in the past (and annoyingly, I had almost this exact idea about 3 years ago and even wrote it all down at the time - should've gone for a patent...), so I find this amazing. The ability to go through menus and stuff just by moving your hands Minority Report-style is impressive enough, but the fact that it can track even the individual movements of your fingers is awesome.

The Milo demo is especially interesting. The voice/facial recognition is good enough that it can work out your mood, or if you're telling a joke for example, and also 'learn' how to say your name just by hearing you say "Hi, my name is ____". Sony's demo was interesting too but this technology seems much more advanced and ahead of anything else in the area right now, and not only that, but it seems much further along in development. With Sony's setup, the camera must have line of sight to the remotes to work. This system is able to keep tracking you even if people or objects are moving around in front of you and can even track multiple people at once. Really all that needs to be done with this system is for developers to start making games that really take advantage of it.

Being able to play Burnout by holding your hands up as if you're holding a wheel and moving your foot to control the gas shows the sort of potential this has. There's no reason you couldn't pull an imaginary handbrake to stick the E-brake on for example, and that's a fairly simple use of the system.

For the doubters, here's a hands on video of the system in use - http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/project-natal-video-hands-on-impressions-and-further-details/

This is bullcrap. Just imagine playing something like GTA San Andreas for example: you would actually have to work out almost like in the gym, you would have to run around the room, and because you could actually get tired you would be busted by cops more often! WTF?!

No thanks, i much rather just press a those few needed keys on my kayboard and move the mouse a bit when needed.

Not that i play computer games a lot, i'm more a casual gamer, but still...

Homer

Well, obviously you woudln't be playing GTA...

PS the dad changing the tire was hilarious.

How would they do Tekken and other fighting games? You start wailing on your friend? Throw them across the room and then body slam them? The games for this shit have got to be SO boring. The point of video games is to do things you can't do in real life... if you're actually acting them out physically, you might as well just go do most of this stuff in real life. The kid with the skateboarding game seemed to be doing just about as much work with that game as he would with a real skateboard.

i think its a great idea for some things. Its the same kind of concept as the wii except without the controller. and you'll probably still be able to play regular games on it with a controller and what not. They are still calling it an xbox.

Was that Los Campesinos! at the beginning? I haven't listened to their newest album yet. Sounds like them though.

PS: I can't help but think about this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp2xztzNzGA).

Ok so I just had a great idea:

You scan your body, and a girl scans her body. You could actually have cyber-sex with eachother, just by lying down in your living room and humping the couch.

This would also be a fantastic outlet for internet-porn chicks to make bank. Sure, for $50 you can get all her videos, but for $500, you can really pretend to have sex with someone.

its just an xbox with superpowers. i can't believe that you wouldn't be able to play normal games on it too.

This is exactly what I was going to ask! It must be them... there's no way it isn't.

The other stuff -- unlikely. Way too complicated to be plausible; even if they DO it, it'll be so annoying because anything that happens in front of the system will cause it to freak out. Imagine trying to drive or whatever and someone just walks past and starts waving around fanatically. You're fucked!
