Noticing how we have people from so many different countries and cultures here (many of which I haven't a clue where to find on a map), I thought this would be a neat idea.
Different people in different places is one of my favorite things to learn about, and I'm broke and can't travel, so this is the closest to a first-hand experience I'm gonna get.

Post a map of where you're from, and any other pictures that you feel are relevant to describe where you live and the culture there.

I'll start
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk75/Shelbsterina/imgUSMAP.gif

I'm the AZ there on the lower left.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk75/Shelbsterina/original.jpg

My town, Buckeye, is a little less than an hour west of Phoenix

Lately, we're mostly only known for the new clusterfuck of cookie-cutter houses in the northern area of our town, called "Sundance". I used to live there, but right now I live in the downtown area, which has an old-town feel to it. I think it's neat.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk75/Shelbsterina/shops-buckeye-arizona-usa-metroshot.jpg

This is just a liquor store that's existed for as long as I can remember, I can't find any pictures of anything else. This is in walking distance from where I live. Basically, this entire area is little family-owned shops that have been here for years and years. There's a lot of Hispanics here, so a lot of the stores here have Mexican specialty foods and CANDY! I'm a HUGE fan of spicy tamarind Mexican candy. SOOOO good.

I've lived here for about 10 years (I've lived in a couple other towns last year, but came back here) and it has grown so much, it's unbelievable. Mostly because of the Sundance clusterfuck, everyone from every state you could possibly think of is moving here. But they all stay up in Sundance, and I'm pretty sure a lot of them don't even know Historic Downtown Buckeye exists.

Well I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. But I talk about Oregon all the time on this board.

I just want to mention that Eugene was mentioned in the Terminator: Salvation movie and that was fucking awesome.

I spend a lot of weekends at our second home in a little place called Praia da Barra, near the beach.

I live in Wayne, NJ. I have for pretty much my entire life. It's an upper middle class town near NYC, population a bit above 50,000. It's been on a bunch of "Best Places to Live" lists in the past decade...CNN, etc. There is a less wealthy section that floods a lot...the town keeps trying to push it off onto a neighboring town. Oh, and they keep trying to become part of a different county that better fits the income level. Sigh.

It has a lot of lake communities, some of which you have to apply to live in. I live in one that no longer requires applications, but I'm pretty sure it still illegally bars certain people from living here. It's overall pretty conservative. There are really good schools, but they have really big drug problems. Someone else on this board once described my town by saying, "Apparently, the only things to do are drugs and other people." It's pretty largely true.

We don't really have a downtown at all. It's just a huge sprawling suburb. We have some malls and strip malls. There aren't really any "mom and pop" kind of stores - instead most things are big chains.

A bunch of famous people live here or have lived here, most notably Tom Cruise when he was younger. Derek Jeter had a house here a few years back, but I think he gave it to his parents now. Oh, and one of the ridiculous women from that Bravo show "Real Housewives of New Jersey" lives here. Lucky me.

Well I'm from Bristol, England. It's a rather large city with around 420,000 people, it's also on the border of England, right next to Cymru (Wales, but being half Welsh I love to call it by it's actual name :D).
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/7263/bristol.jpg

We in Bristol are also well known for our pirate like accents and our own little sub-language, Bristolian. Which also reminds me that the pirate Blackbeard was born in Bristol, which is why Pirates always sound like us. That's right, they sound like US!!

Here's one of our most famous landmarks, the Bristol Suspension Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/7307/cliftonsuspensionbridge.jpg

Bristol is also the home to the world famous graffiti artist, Banksy, comedian Lee Evens, Tv star Derren Brown and writer of the Harry Potter books, J K Rowling! (An for those of you in England who really loves it, we also got James May from Top Gear, and Justin Lee Collins!). We also made Concorde here in Bristol at the BAC, who also played a heavy roll in helping us kick some Nazi scum in ww2 if I'm not mistaken.

Here's an example of Banksys art!

I live in California. I don't know what I would consider my home town because I lived in many places, although it has always been in the general Los Angeles area.

My first home was somewhere in Berendo st. Nothing of interest really. Large Hispanic area. No pictures.

My second home was in Hollywood literally right in front (or to the side) of Paramount Studios. I don't recall much, but that tower sticks out like a sore thumb in my memory.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v255/Savemejebus/parama.jpg

Then we moved to East LA for a bit. Very ghetto hispanic area. Again, not much to say so I provide you a picture of Cheech from the movie Born in East LA.
http://www.videodetective.com/photos/084/00354914_.jpg

When I was around 6 years old, we finally settled in Korea Town for about 8 years. Probably the closet thing I'd consider my hometown. According to Wikipedia, it's the most diverse area in Los Angeles. Mostly Latino and Korean though. I lived on Olympic street, which is where a couple Korean parades are held each year. Along with the parade, usually a fair accompanied it with a shit ton of amusement rides on a park a block away from my apartment building. As a kid, you could imagine how awesome this was.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v255/Savemejebus/koreat.jpg

Currently reside in South LA. Used to live right next to USC, but now I live around the crenshaw area. Pictured is part of a sort of well known mural along crenshaw. Too long to show the whole thing sadly.

Out of everything, for some reason liquor stores have always been the main landmarks I remembered my old homes from. I guess it has to do with being the place all the candy was bought.

Woh your hometown looks beautiful. As I told Rutegard, I went to Lisbon last year and really liked the city. Portugal is a very beautiful country.

My hometown is in the parisian suburbs with a huuuge portugese community. I always wondered why people would leave a country like Portugal to come in a place like this.

Anyway, i'll post pictures of Paris when I am not at work :)

You know, the problem in these very touristic cities is definitely the tourists. I can't stand tourists here. Don't get me wrong, I am nice when they ask me something. But when they are like.. 20... in the middle of a small street and they don't want to move... or they are using the subway between 8 and 9... why do you get up so early anyway ???? You're on vacation !

But of course, we are all tourists when we go somewhere else so... :D

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, a lot of people say that Canadians are very nice/polite. When I was in the states 2 years ago (for 3 weeks in Atlanta) I could easily see the difference between Canadians and Americans "polite" wise. We treat everyone the same here.

My village is boring, there is nothing there, many swimming pools or rivers around it, a lake not far, an hour away from the sea... There used to be one restaurant but now a friend of my parents' lives there. Heh so for restaurants, shops and cinemas etc we gotta go to the nearby villages, but its a good place to be in the summer and winter for the scenery and skiing.

This would take way too long to do. I've lived in Tokyo and Toronto most recently, but I've also lived all over Northern France and in Malaysia. I guess I'll go with where I've lived longest or where I go back to regularly.

Hennebont, Morbihan, France.

This little town's just outside of Lorient, and it's quite a nice place if you don't mind basically being cut off from all forms of technology. They've also got the best baguette made anywhere in the entire world. Lorient, the nearby city, is where the InterCeltic Festival happens each year in late July/early August - so many people come that Lorient's population doubles for those two weeks.

It's got this giant ass church, which is actually quite striking in person.
http://pagespro-orange.fr/pays-lorient/hennebont/hennebont3.jpg

And some "ruins" of a keep's walls, though the walls are still in pretty much perfect shape.
http://fr.structurae.de/files/photos/899/hennebont_002.jpg

Hennebont is where a large part of my family lives - I return there every summer to see my grandparents and such.

And then I guess we've got Taiwan. I lived in the country for eight years, from the age of 7 until I was 15, and though I've only been back once or twice in the last seven years, my father recently got a job there so it looks like that's where I'll be next Christmas. I lived in the foreign-ish part of the capital city, which is Taipei. It's called Tien Mou and I mostly remember it being really dirty and incredibly hot. I also lived in Taichung (Taizhong) for a few years, but that's in the center of the island and doing both cities would take too long.

This is clearly Taipei on an incredible day. While I lived there it was unusual that smog didn't cover the sky. We were lucky to get two or three days of clear sunshine after typhoons hit. The large building is the Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world, built right on the Ring of Fire.

I'm from Vienna. Well, we've got a lot of stuff here. Guys who won Nobel price (about eleven), musicians who weren't born here, but practised for long time in Vienna: Mozart and Beethoven. Even a musician who was ranked nr.1 in us billboard charts was born here, Falco. A lot of achitecture (Hunderwasser and old stuff i.e. Stephansdom), history (Habsburger), arts (Klimt, Schiele), sights and museums and tons of other stuff. And yes, everyone who was here says it's beautiful here. Finally it's one of the richest cities and is ranked top 3 best cities in the world to live in.

Heeeeree~~ (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=es&q=salina+cruz+oaxaca&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=mx&ei=R1xCSpmSKomusgPCh5HMDw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1)

And here too xD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salina_Cruz)

And for the record, i didn't even know we had a lil space in wikipedia xD

Personally, i don't like this place, it's too hot, and the weather is really random. Sometimes we have every season of the year in one single day. But it's pretty hot and dry mostly.

Anyway... we have a beach

Btw, you can zoom in the map... It's a tiny town, so you need it xD

What is there to say about Minneapolis? I've lived here all my life and have learned to tolerate the hot-humid summers and frigid cold winters.

Haha, this is funny after seeing all these pictures of cities.

I'm from Eldred, NY. It's a very, very, very small town in the Catskills of New York.

My car didn't have its snow tires on. It slid back down the driveway and got stuck that way in the snow.

I was born in Savannah, GA. It's a port city and beachy. I haven't been there since I was about four-years-old. I miss the place.
