So message boards. I been on em for a while. You think at the exponential rate that technologies been evolving, these things will still be used in the future? Or do you think during the next century these things will go the way of the telegraph. The exchange of written word doesn't exactly seem like it'll go away, sure maybe the format and possibilities will advance, but then again technology's unpredictable like that. What'dyou think?

I think message boards will continue for a long long time. It's either this or email. This is the easiest way to communicate to a lote of people on one topic.

I wouldn't be surprised if the format evolves quite a bit from what it is now at some point, but the general idea would be the same and it would still probably be referred to as a message board.

Kind of like how a lot of people, myself and Dexter included, still refer to this place as a BBS? :)

Looking forward to the day I get to moderate telepathically.

But just think of how many people would get permabanned if all you had to do was think about it.

Text based communication on the interweb is popular because people like that it's a no pressure/no strings attach type of way to socialize with complete strangers. Oddly enough, technology is evolving around communicating in less intimate ways. You'd think it would be the other way around. Nowaday texting seems more prominent than actually talking on the phone. There's a reason why video phones and web cams never really went mainstream. In the end of the day, we put a whole lot of value on our privacy. That's why I find it highly unlikely that virtual reality will ever trump text based message boards.

When I talk to friends about it I usually just say "...on the offspring..." or "...on offspring...". Sometimes I have to explain what it is to people. I say BBS occasionally but no one knows what I'm talking about.

Well yeah, but not like how a BBS works, they'd need to have internet on their phone, and go onto offspring.com/forums and basically do what you'd do on a PC.. So you could on a cell phone but not a home phone

I do occasionally, but there isn't a mobile version of the site. Maybe there will be at some point, but my phone's recent software upgrades have it so that it automatically optimizes websites now so that I don't have to scroll side-to-side constantly.

I often call it either "the BBS" or "the forums". Or if I'm talking to someboby who doesn't know of this board or that its the only one I use, then I say "the offspring forums/boards"
