The last concert I've been to was CJ Ramone, Daniel Rey and Brant Bjork live in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil at Bolshoi Pub. CJ Ramone was Ramones' last bassist, Daniel Rey was Ramones' producer, although he also wrote some of the bands' songs and also played the guitar in the studio for some tracks, and Brant Bjork... Well, the list is huge, I figured Wikipedia could explain it better? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brant_Bjork_discography http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brant_Bjork

Anyway, the concert fuckin' kicked ass and July 9th of 2009 is a day I will never ever forget, and it also is a day I will tell my grandchildren about.

I got to talk to the guys, take pictures with them, and I also got autographs. Oh, man, to protect that Mondo Bizarro CD is now my full time duty.

They played 20 Ramones songs, 3 Bad Chopper songs (Bad Chopper is CJ's new band) and 1 Motörhead song.

Pictures:

I was in the first row, I stood there for 3 hours and then when the concert started I got smashed in the first row for approximately 1 hour and a half.

The last concert I went to was The Offspring w/Alkaline Trio and Street Dogs, sometime in early June. I posted a few of my pictures in the second photo album already. Amazing concert! As any with The Offspring.

I wanted to go see Rancid w/Billy Talent last night and 311 tonight, but thankyou crappy cars that break down. ^.^

Yes, it was amazing. Beyond awesome!
I'd never seen such a small venue, dude. The stage was smaller than my bathroom!
I was less than 30 centimeters away from Daniel Rey and less than 60 centimeters away from CJ Ramone. Dude, it was freaking amazing!

Club shows rock, oh, man. Believe me, they do! I still can't believe I've been able to see such an awesome concert from the first rule, all the money I spent to get to Goiânia (I don't live there, btw) and all the time that I spent standing waiting for the concert to begin were totally worth it. If I could, I'd do all that again. I hope there's more next year.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9SCrQF0gFo - Note that in 00:08 I went completely nuts, you can't quite see it in the video, but you can somehow hear it. I saw in the set-list that they were about to play Strength To Endure, at 00:08 I say in a croaking voice "Strength To Endure, Strength To Endure" I screamed it staring at a girl who I did not know and it seems like one of her favorite songs was Strength To Endure and then she went nuts as well.

The crowd was fuckin' insane!
Before they (the band) got in the stage, I started screaming "Hey Ho, Let's Go" like 3 times, and then the people on the first row would start screaming that as well, and so would the rest of the people in the venue. It's such a fuckin' awesome feeling.

I saw Sum 41, Story Of The Year and AFI yesterday in Vienna. It was awesome, mainly Sums, they played a lot of their fast stuff, crazy moshpit, lost my jacket. SOTY and AFI were pretty decent too. It was a lot of fun, great night to remember.

Yes I do... damn work. :(

Maybe in the late summer some gig will come in the picture... did Tijs went to mouuush-pit? :DThe risk of losing your job is not a good reason to skip a concert this awesome, Zee. It was one of the best shows I've seen, a lot better than Area4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENM1DSyYQKs). We missed you, Markkutje! :(

And of course I went into the moooooooushpit! The encore was great. After the first encore the lights went on and some music got played. But the crowd just refused to leave and started yelling for AFI for a good 15 minutes, and the band got back on stage again and showed their appreciation and saying that they hadn't done a real encore for at least 15 years.

And Davey remains one of the best sources for a good laugh. But he's awesome nonetheless.

The only downside was the lack of the old fast songs. They only played Perfect Fit. I missed more songs like I Wanna Get A Mohawk, A Single Second or Highschool Football Hero. But fuck it, it was awesome.

Yeah, the concert was far better than I expected, I'm still surprised by how much I liked it. And the crowd was also awesome, the atmosphere was just great, although the mooouuush-pit was quite gentle, let's say. The cool thing was that you could see and feel that both the audience and the band really enjoyed the show.
And Davey is just so positively weird, I had a lot of fun thanks to him:p But I'm sure he had been even happier if he could have seen you in the crowd, Zee.

Yeah, the AFI show has a good chance to take the 11th place of most enjoyable concerts I've ever seen! Places 1 to 10 are for the Offspring shows obviously. I wasn't a big fan of Decemberunderground or Crash Love, but on my way home I've listened to both albums and I like them a lot more now.

Travelling from here to Warsaw has been made relatively easy (and cheap if the days match well together), so that's great. But I'll have to re-analyze my finance because we're having some f*cking strikes and lockouts at work all the time!

What's that "student" festival all about? Any good Polish bands? :D

Student festival means that it should be cheaper or even for free:p but I don't think SUM 41 concert will be for free. And there will be a couple of good Polish bands, but the band I like the most is KNŻ. It's another band of Kazik, Kult's vocalist.

Ok, this gig is past me now. The lineup was awesome: In-Sane (slovenia, hc punk), then A Wilhelm Scream, after them Strike Anywhere, and Pennywise as the final (and main) act. Pennywise confirmed that Zoli is the official and permanent replacement for Lindberg. And A Wilhelm Scream are planning to hit the studio this august, to record new material (the source for this is Nuno, their frontman, we talked for a while after the gig).

It was intense, actually it almost seemed like torture towards the end. During the last few songs Pennywise played i just stood there in a desperate need for water (and i wasn't the only one).

I need to get some sleep, i only slept for about an hour on my way home (4 hour long drive by train).

I don't have any pictures to post, but here's a video I found on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TcehU88DWg

They played a lot of cool songs but it was a short show... They had been trapped in snow in France :(
The show ended with a lot of guys coming up on the stage including me and my brother.

All in all great show... No not great... Awesome! They blev the roof off!

Some of the songs they played are:
Violent & Funky, Rules Go Out The Window, Subliminal, Monster Skank and Punk It Up :)

So, I can honestly say the 4th of July of 2010 was the best day of my life. I saw Raimundos in Goiânia, second time I ever saw 'em, this time, Canisso, the original bassist, was there. Anyway...
It was a tattoo convention, pretty cool. Saw lots of really bizzarre people. After hanging out at the venue for a while, there I saw Canisso, the bassist, he had just tattooed both of his arms, he liked my t-shirt (which had www.portalraimundos.com on it) and then he was really happy to know that I had made him a tshirt just like mine, but with his name on it. I actually made one for each band member. And, yes, I did steal Oxy's idea... Anyway, after a while he went to the dressing room, eventually I went there, too, one of the promoters of the event told me they weren't going to talk to anybody but she would give them the tshirts, I told her I had talked to the band members and if she talked to them, they would let me in, she said no... Ok then. She went, gave them the shirts and shortly came back to tell me that they were expecting to see me at the dressing room and told the security guards to let me in, how cool is that, huh? She told me to be quiet, though, because Digão was being interviewed, so, I went, said hi to the other members, and when Digão was done he was like "Gustavo, man! How's it going?", of course I felt really awesome... So, after talking to them for a while, and taking some pics, we ended up talking about the possibility of playing "Fique! Fique" and "Mas Vó", both songs are from their most underrated album, but I like them very much... They do play "Mas Vó" on a regular basis, but not "Fique! Fique". They soon had to go to the stage, they went I wished them a good concert and after that I was talking to someone and when they started playing I was like "Oh shit" and started running, the crowd in the front was really insane, lots of people pushing each other, don't ask me how, but I went through some good 30 meters of people and mananged to be in the first row before the half of the first song. Being skinny does have its advantages, doesn't it? hahaha
When the guitarist realized I had made it to the first row so quickly, he looked at me and laughed. Then they played another song, and they strated talking to each other and the drummer chuckled and looked at me, I thought they were up to something... And then the singer was like "There's a kid out there...", and the guitarist looked at me and said "This one goes out for you, man!" and grabbed my hand and greeted me, I was right in front of him... And then Digão said "What makes a good band is the fans, we wouldn't be anything without our fans, and there's people out there who dedicate their time, make websites (i have a website about them www.portalraimundos.com), like Portal Raimundos" and then I was freaking out and everybody else, too... And then he pointed to me and said "This one goes out for you, kid... Let's go!" and then they played "Fique! Fique", of course I freaked out, this is one of my favorite songs and it's very underrated, they rarely played it, I think it was the second time they played it this year! I even have videos to prove.
The rest of the concert was great, too... They even played "Mas Vó", everything was great! I barely can feel my leg or my tummy from being pushed in the first row, but it's ok. haha It was worth it!
After the concert I hung out with them again and they proved to be really humble people, now I like them even more!

You guys should check them out, I know the fact that they sing in Portuguese may be a problem. But, fuck it! Music is international.

Went to Rock Werchter last week, saw Muse, Green Day, Rise Against, 30 Seconds to Mars, Pearl Jam, Them Crooked Vultures, Rammstein, Faithless, Florence and the Machine, Arcade Fire, and loads of other bands.
The best was Green Day, in my opinion, they put on such a great show, with lots of energy.
I also loved Rise Against, they always look like they love what they do, but its a pity the sound wasnt very good.

I think they're more suited to smaller indoor gigs. I saw them in Dublin a year back and they sounded amazing.

I went to a NOFX show like 3 weeks ago and holy shit! They are AMAZING live. Unfortunately, the whole experience was ruined by my parents... yes, I had to go to a concert with my parents (my 9 year old brother is a huge NOFX fan and he had to go but my parents didn't let us go alone, I guess they don't trust me, not yet ). Anyway, thanks to them, I missed four songs (Bob, Dinosaurs will die, Leave it alone and Seeing double at the triple rock) and then I had to stand like an ass far far away from the stage because there were "tons of aggressive druggies in the front"

But I met Smelly and El Hefe on the street before the concert :D They're really cool.

My last few concerts:

- Alice In Chains (Zagreb, Croatia, 21st June). Unbelievable show, they're incredible live, and DuVall is getting better and better
- Njoki summer festival, Ajdovščina, Slovenia (8th August). The main bands there were (in order of their performances) Overflow (Croatian band), Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Elvis Jackson (Slovenia). They were all great, and one of the highlights was the Ace Of Spades cover, which was performed by NUFAN and Lagwagon combined. And also Elvis Jackson (some of you here know them) performance, which was again incredible in its own merits (with all that insanely high jumps of their singer and all of his other antics like asking the crowd how their crops are doing, people "crowd-sailing" in an inflatable boat that the singer brought, succeeding to convince the security to move the fence closer to the stage,...). It was... Wild :D

That Lagwagon/NUFAN show sounds like fun, i still haven't seen any of those live yet, which bums me out.

Haven't been to a show in a little while, but i've got tickets to see Social Distortion/Frank Turner/Lucero in october: and i'll also probably see Bad Religion/Off With Their Heads/Bouncing Souls this fall too, once the tickets go on sale. Debating about seeing Against Me!/Flatliners in september: i love both those bands to death, but it's at the shittiest venue in toronto.

Yeah, they are still active. They come by my hometown at least once a year (they're from Riverside, which is close to where I live). Steady as She Goes (2002) and Southern California Street Music (2007) are both really good and they still put on one hell of a live show.

I had free tickets, so. As a fan of old Guns N' Roses I've heard Chinese Democracy like 4 days before the show for the first time and... it wasnt bad! At least not so bad as I expected. They were 2 hours late, Axl still thinks its Czechoslovakia here (but his voice was PERFECT), show was almost 3 hours long, everyone was tired after 3 songs... But it was good after all

Bad Religion/ Off With Their Heads/ Bouncing Souls

Off With Their Heads totally stole the show, didn't play Die Today, but ending the set with Clear The Air more than made up for it.

Bouncnig Souls sort of won me over with their set (wasn't too keen on them prior), highlights were their covers of Avoid One Thing's Lean on Sheena and Hot Water Music's Wayfarer.

Bad Religion were solid as always: good mix of old and new songs, though i wouldn't have minded a few more songs from Empire or Stranger Than Fiction.

To sum it up, it was fantastic.

Frank's set was just amazing. Got to talk to Frank before he went on stage for a bit: dude is just so awesome. Said his upcoming EP would be getting a physical release, and not just a digital one. He played with his full backing band (last time i saw him live he was by himself), and i think it made for a better live experience: they all have great chemestry on stage together and the songs sound more like they do on the albums. Setlist was a good mix of Love Ire and Song and Poetry of the Deed: he also played two new songs, "I Still Believe" and "Eulogy" and naturally they both went down really well live.

"Eulogy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3HuCaafiVc

Second band to play was Lucero: i'm only somewhat familiar with their stuff, but i liked what i heard. Think of a sort mix of country, folk and punk. Solid stuff.

And Social Distortion were great live as well. It was my first time seeing them: the setlist was pretty good, though they didn't play anything from Sex Love, which was a shame since i love that record. Played two new songs, "Bakersfield" and the other i think was "stay alive": both of which were really great.

coke_a_holic
10-24-2010, 11:50 AM
I went to go see Lucero last year... Titus Andronicus opened, so that was totally awesome. But then Lucero came on and they were all so drunk that they forgot how to play their own songs. Also, their fans kept egging them on because they like seeing them in that sort of state or something? I was in the front row, and some dude with a Nobody's Darlings tattoo (the title of one of their albums) knocked me out of the way so he could get between me and the stage, so I left about halfway into the set. It was terrible.

But the last show I've seen was Menomena and they were fantastic! Played almost all of the new album and a few of the best songs off their second record. The encore was unfulfilling, though; they played a song off their first record which I hadn't heard and didn't really like. Oh well, the rest of the set was great.

i saw sum 41. to be blunt, ive never been that into them and only went for the black pacific who were supporting. the new guitarist is really good but i think their problem has always been the fact they have good songs but deliver them so generically without putting their stamp on things. the singer pinched god knows how many cliches and gimmicks from billie joe armstrong, his antics just seemed a bit redundant though!

H2O supporting Sick of it All? When was that, in the beginning? I figured that when they play together, it's more of co-headlining, seeing as maybe H2O is bigger, but Sick of it All more 'legendary'.

Too bad you didn't enjoy Sum 41 though, I'm seeing them tomorrow and am excited as can be about it. Last time I wasn't here when they played in the area, and when I went to Poland to see them they canceled! :( They're kind of like the band that I've been listening to a lot, especially some years ago and still have to see.

So yeah, Eastpak Antidote Tour with Sum 41 yesterday.

I was early enough to see a part of the second band's set, which I didn't enjoy that much to be honest. Can't remember their name either. Veomo or something? They didn't leave to big of an impression, they're that typical support band I suppose.

The Black Pacific on the other hand were a lot more into it, and seemed to enjoy crowd interaction. Good music, good performance, I wouldn't have mind if they played a full hour. By the time they played the place was nearly full already and everyone was going wild, I enjoyed watching from the back.

And Sum 41, I was into them a lot during the first albums, and really enjoyed their later albums too, even bought all of them. The show started out really well, hardly room to mosh but that didn't stop anyone really. The band put up more than a decent performance but nothing that made it extra special. They called some people form the crowd to watch on stage. Not much talking to the crowd, not much joking either, which I generally like.
I mostly agree with what nameless said, except that I was really into them and therefore was able to enjoy it a lot more, but I expected more of an explosion of energy coming from the stage as well. I LOVED Pain For Pleasure though. TUH DUH DUH!
I'll see if I can get the photos that my cousin took.

Now, a day later, my body hurts from the nonstop moshing, countless wall of deaths and circle pits.
Normally I go to shows wearing a bandshirt and skatejeans or something, but this time I decided to dress up nicely and wear a neat blouse and tighter pants, as if I was going to some fancy dinner. You know, just for my own giggles, but I got pushed around a lot more and bashed into than usual. Don't know if it's just a coincidence, but I just noticed. It was fun though.

edit: Sum 41 posted photos on their website (http://www.sum41.com/gallery.aspx?fid=7937&gid=148).

Yeah, it was looking forward to it for like a month and when I heard it was cancelled, I was so disappointed. The really crappy thing is that the only venue in town decided to stop booking punk shows (after an incident with the band Leftover Crack and their show), so the likelihood of them coming back is slim.

Kyuss Lives! (Budapest, 20.3.2011). Me and one of my buddies went there, it was a great trip, lots of fun stuff happened :D

Anyway, their setlist was awesome, and it was fucking long, the gig lasted for nearly 2 hours, and they absolutely ruled. Everyone was in top form, so any Kyuss fans here that are considering seeing this new (Josh-less) lineup, just fucking do it and go see them, it's totally worth it.

I also found out a new band that i'm now quickly becoming a fan of - Waxy (they are one of the supporting acts for Kyuss Lives! European tour). A great stoner rock band, from the same town as Kyuss i believe, and John Garcia is one of the guest vocalists on their new album (released this year; he had colaborated with them before, they're good friends, check out this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W1qrQ4vE4U). I'd reccommend them, if you're a QOTSA and Kyuss fan then you might dig their music too. Some of their stuff really reminds me of early QOTSA (up to Songs for the Deaf), which is by no means a bad thing, but they don't sound like a copycat band, they have their own sound.

Well, I'm far from being perfect kind of person
And I haven't done what mom and dad have dreamed
But on the day I die
I'll say*
At least I've met that guy
And that's the only eulogy I need

*I took a pause and Frank added his own line which was "I ate an apple pie".

Then we hugged again. Then we went for a drink. Then I've met the band and got to talk to all of them except Matt, who was either busy with other folks or away, what a shame, but oh well, can't complain, because the gentlemen were super cool... /faint

That's pretty awesome ^: i got to meet Frank the last time i saw him live (he had opened for Social Distortion) and he's literally the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

Anyways: my last show was Nofx, with Teenage Bottle Rocket and Old Man Malarkey.

OMM and TBR fucking killed it live: they've got so much energy (Nubs from the Nofx song "She's Nubs" was there: and during "For Better or for Worse" by OMM some dude carried her up to the microphone and she sang part of the song: also, i'm pretty sure i saw Fat Mike's girl friend give her a line of blow during Nofx's set.

Nofx was fun too: it was my second time seeing them live, and i got what i expected: about 115 minutes of a set list with a fair share of variety (highlights were Eat the Meek, My Orphan Year and Mattersville), and about another 15 minutes of terrible jokes. The only tragic thing about the night was that i had to leave before the encore to catch the last train home: and as soon as was about halfway home, i got a text from a buddy informing me that i had missed The Decline: which was shitty, but still, I had a pretty fun night.

Oh, and here's some completely unsolicited advice: try and catch the Real Mckenzies set: they absolutely kill it live.

Don't worry, i won't miss them, i'll stay there for the whole festival, i'm gonna be camping there with a few friends (actually it's not that far away from my home, maybe 2 hour drive or even less than that). The location itself could not possibly be any better, and with that epic lineup...

We were planning to go to Austria just to see Bad Religion, and then they get announced as one of the acts for the festival. Holy fuck, did that make my day :D. And when the full lineup was announced it got only better.

edit: And i'm very excited about NOFX, too. It's gonna be my first time seeing them live. I would go see them with a couple of friends last august in Croatia, but i couldn't go because i just got a job and started working, the gig was on tuesday or wednesday i think. I had many regrets about that decision later. Now though it's gonna be an even better opportunity.

Jesus Christ, was this an awesome weekend or what? :D

This festival was just 4 days of pure awesomeness. Bad Religion played the festival version of The Generator, it couldn't be more epic than it was. Golliwog ruled too, it's such a pity that this was their goodbye gig. And i don't even need to mention NOFX, it was the best possible way to end this festival. I got pretty hammered before their gig though (and even more hammered afterwards) :D

Dum Dum Girls with Widow's Peak and Punks on Mars. It was my birthday and I was right up front for Dum Dum Girls, they played a pretty diverse set getting stuff from each album, played Bang Band which made me very happy. Had a couple of interactions with the bassist who was really nice.
Widows Peak was good too. Really mellow indie kind of stuff. Music that would've been amazing if I had smoked a bowl or something before going in. I could barely understand the singer, but her voice was so soothing it didn't matter.

Jimmy Eat World. They were really good. They put on a nice set, high energy. But the one downfall was every song to every other song there was a delay because they were having trouble with the guitars and getting them tuned right. Wasn't a smooth constant flow.

Saw Earl Sweatshirt, Chance, The Rapper: The Internet and Vince Staples last night. They were all great. The internet unfortunately kinda broke up the vibe of the show not because they were bad but because they were totally different from the rest of the openers. They still put on a great show. I think this was Earl's first show in Boston, and he absolutely killed it. Funny ass stage presence good song selections. Only complaint was that he didn't do Epar but only because Vince Staples is featured on the song, and he was the hype man the whooole time. Oh well. Still great show.

I saw Bad Religion on tuesday here in Bratislava. Finally!!! I have never seen them before and it was amazing, they played like 30 songs, old and new, some really unexpected (Beyond Electric Dreams, wow), the performance was flawless, Greg Graffin(although his absolutely grey hair surprised me) is an amazing man with a lot of charisma. Another dream came true, I had a blast!

They joked a little about The Offspring! When they were about to play American Jesus, Greg said something like "I think this is the song that you have all been waiting for..." to which Jay jokingly replied "Bumpin' in my trunk?" ...I might have been the only one there who was laughing at that.

I went to a festival named "Corona Capital", which makes allusion and is sponsored by Corona Beer, "Cervecería Modelo". I think this is the fourth year they make it, but it was my first. Important bands have performed in this event (Pixies, Interpol, The Strokes, Coheed and Cambria, Franz Ferdinand, The Black Keys...) I was dying to go last year to see The Hives, but I had work at the moment, so I couldn't attend, but this time I definitely had to go because I couldn't miss QOTSA... I think this was one of the concerts I've enjoyed the most, I ditched my group of friends and made my way to the front row (I know threre are people who don't apprediate freaks like me slippering around and getting in front of you but man, it's been ages since the last time I did it and it was awesome, despite all the sweat and smells and grossness from other people). This one goes to my top five, and I've seen plenty of bands.

Other bands I saw at the Festival were Jimmy Eat World and Vampire Weekend, because of my friends, I really only went to see QOTSA, I enjoyed Jimmy Eat World. Vampire Weekend was ok, I danced a bit to them. I mised Travis and Blondie the first day of the festival, because I sold my ticket at the last moment to a friend that was dying to see Travis, no big deal, saved me some money.

Anyways, QOTSA was superb, they played Mexicola because of the occasion, Josh said it, lol, I had a blast with that one.

These are a couple pics I took with my phone:
