The Good News: If this song is an indication, they stopped sounding like Pearl Jam, who were popular at the time they were formed.

The Bad News: Now they sound like every other cookie-cutter Post-Grunge band that have taken over rock radio for the past decade. Unless the chorus is really catchy, this is probably the weakest lead single I've heard released in awhile. The whole song is available on the Internet, but I haven't heard it.

I know no one here gives a shit about Creed, but I've had an odd fascination with this band since they've reformed. I mean, they were so fucking hated, and there was so much venom directed at Stapp, that I'd have never thought they'd have the balls to make another album. So, I guess I just expected this to be somewhat of a "Let's just do this right, this time" sort of approach. I'm probably being a little too judgmental for a minute-long clip of one song from the album, but come on. Despite all of the hate from critics and people with varying taste in music, this band was gargantuan. So I guess I was just caught off guard by how unapologetically(can't figure out how to spell that right) mediocre this is sounding.

Well, it's bound to be better received than Nickelback's last album, at least.

I always giggle when i hear one of their songs; Strapp's voice is just so rediculous.

But yeah, this song is pretty much the definition of "meh"; nothing but generic radio-jock-rock.

I never minded his voice, I just don't understand how they could have the gall to come back and be so mediocre.

Really? I mean, take a look at the standard that has been set. You kinda alluded to this earlier, but Nickelback is bigger than ever. Staind's last four albums have debuted at number 3 or higher (with only the last one debuting at 3, the rest were number 1). Add in the fact that they are possibly a bigger name than those two bands, and I'm surprised that you're surprised. I wouldn't expect them to fix their sound if it's making everyone else money.

Heh, I feel the need to state that Creed used to be my favorite band, and I tolerate this song more than any song of its genre in a while. I, however, am not impressed with it, and will not be checking out their new album.

Generic song, and the singer STILL does sound like he's trying to be Eddie Vedder, at least in some places. It's not that bad, but it's not excellent either. It's kind of a "meh" song. There are far too much post-grunge bands already, and they all sound the same more or less.

I wish that real grunge would replace this post-grunge nonsense *looks at Pearl Jam, Mudhoney Alice In Chains and Green River (since they apparently plan to release a new album)*. Or am i hoping too much?

The single is kind of flopping, I think. It's already at #23 on the Mainstream rock charts, but I don't expect it to reach #10. And I'd be surprised if it touched the Alt. charts at all.

Maybe this is a sign people are finally ready for something a little different.

I think the fact they chose a single with a guitar solo is an improvement. Their guitarist, Mark Tremonti, continues to impress me with his guitar skills in his Creed, Alter Bridge, and Fret12 projects.

They didn't. You just overlooked the second link in the first post of this thread:

Happiness DENIED.

Yeah, well i think it's better to tell people the truth as soon as possible. Otherwise they would live under the false impression of safety, and then they would be absolutely devastated when they would discover the horrible truth after all those seconds, minutes, hours, mornings, afternoons, evenings, days, weeks, months, years or even decades...

I just listened to Overcome, and it honestly sounds exactly like Tantric. It sounds more like them than like Creed. In conclusion, it's not that bad. I never thought Creed was really that bad, I just hated Stapp. It's not so generic as Nickelback/Staind, but it's nothing special (I did like the bridge, though the guitar solo was underwhelming for how good Tremonti actually is). Doesn't make me wanna get the new album. But it's not awful.

Creed is clearly a terrorist organization that is trying to distract and disorient the US troops with bland music so that the enemy can catch them off guard and wipe them out.

Creed is anti-America. Fuck those fuckers.

haha related to the KROQ thing, I found this http://www.creedfeed.com/community/showthread.php?t=12621

I'm not surprised.... I'm sure the KROQ guys know that the pissed people aren't actually KROQ fans but diehard Creed/Alter Bridge/Stapp fans.

Maybe some of the Offspring fans here could look at this stuff and see exactly why it's a bad idea to spam a place just because they say something bad about your favorite band....

People need to get over it. So what if they wont play it. KROQ will whatever they want to play, end of story.

The "It is not spamming, it is our voices being heard" comment was hilarious.

EDIT: And they use the military as an excuse for their buffoonery... tsk tsk tsk

Well, the single was more popular than I thought. Only reached #22 on the Modern Rock format (they were never super popular on modern rock, with the exception of three or so obvious songs), but it's at #2 on the Mainstream, being held off by Alice in Chains. The new Alice in Chains single went to #1 on all three main rock formats, so it's kicking ass hard. Overcome will probably pass Check My Brain soon.
