Does any1 actually know how well it has sold
the wikipedia figures are surely wrong, i wud hav thought it wud hav sold more than the 225,000+ in the US with a tour and the success of yggfk.
And the other figures quoted just seem really inaccurate, I mean 60,000 in britain when it only peaked at 39 in the chart

Can any1 shed any light on this

Everyone that doesn't write "any1" knows, and gets to know. Not you.

It's not gold as far as we know. Which is under 500 000, just in the USA.

Britain is an entirely different market from the US and there's really no comparison.

The gold/platinum/etc. standard of the past doesn't apply much anymore. You can have a hugely successful single and not have the record go gold. YGGFK as a single is gold (digital downloads, y'all -- no physical single). And the second most popular purchased track is Hammerhead, the one they gave away free.

It didn't sell well because the whole music industry is going to shit. Filesharing and iTune have completely destoryed the album buying market. Instead of just spending a 10$-15$ on a CD, they average person will instead either download just the one or two tracks they heard on the radio off iTunes, or burn the CD off the some filesharing site for free. This doesn't just effect The Offspring, it effects the entire music industry. A band is lucky if they sell 1,000,000 units in the united states, and you have to whore yourself like Fall Out Boy.

So, honestly, it's probably less then 500,000 units. I haven't read anything about the album going Gold, which is 500,000 sold in the US, so I would assume that it's less, maybe in the 350,000-400,000 range.

And as for Wikipedia being surely wrong, Wikipedia, for the most part, is accurate (85%-90%) and there is, most of the time, a link to an external site that will be a source.

As people have told you, the album didn't sell too well. Times are changing, the whole industry must find a way to adapt to the internet era. No easy task, but eventually they'll find a way. I hope at least.

And lets try to stop picking on the guy's spelling, it's not so bad for internet level chat and it has nothing to do with the topic. Really, this place looks like the Imdb boards sometimes (and that's NOT a good thing. ) *sigh*

Anyway, The Offspring rules, yadda yadda. :D

On a brighter note, the single "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" manage to acheive gold status.
