a new friend of mine that is about to become an Offspring fan recently asked me what OFfspring album should he listen to first???
i couldnt decide between "Smash", "conspiracy of one" or " Rise & fall; rage & grace" - my personal favorites.
so i come to my fellow board member and ask; which offspring album should a newie listen to first?????

I'd go with either Americana or Ixnay.

If they're usually into "punk" stuff, then try Ignition.

Leave this page for a few days and you should have pretty much every album made by them - so you'll be back to square one. :p ;)

it depends on what kind of music style your friend prefers. there is some difference in music style in each album.

Smash, but if anyone doesn't know or isn't familiar with The Offspring, I'd recommend Greatest Hits.

great answers!!!! :D
all good albums! i love all offspring albums!!!!
but i am leaning towards "smash" cause it was my first love with the Offspring!!! there is such a wide variety of the offsprings music talents....
even though i am on my 3rd listen to "rise & fall; rage & grace" today!!!

Why not make him something like a mix CD of 15 or so of your favorites (or the ones you think might be his favorites) and then go with an album. But to answer the original question at hand, Americana.

Why not the Greatest hits ? It has a mix of a little of everything from Smash to Splinter, it's pretty various.

I didn't even think of that. I would go with that although I do believe Dirty Magic and Bad habit should have been on that album

well the greatest hits doesnt have "something to believe", "what happened to u", "special delivery" or "nothingtown"
the only plus for the GH is "next to you"
i am still leaning towards "smash" cause of its rawness w/ it bit of being out of control!

No polls! just discussion!!! tell me why i should offer up the album suggested

What Happened To You? is one of my all-time favourite Offspring songs but it was not a big hit. Obviously NothingTown wasn't on the album. It was not written/released yet.

And neither does any one album. Thus, mix CD!

Also, what kind of music does this friend typically like?

It's kind of hard to decide, none of us know your friend so none of us know what he might like. Even though every Offspring album is 100% Offspring, they all sound very different.

Listen to Randy, go with the custom made mix CD.

Perhaps you didn't get the point. We do not know your friend. We do not know what kind of music he likes or might enjoy.

You know your friend, you should know it a million times better than any single one of us. But apperantly you're not sure, so Randy mentioned the mix CD which in my opinion would be the perfect solution.

I don't know what your friend is into, but unless your friend is into heavier music I wouldn't recommend Smash. Americana is the way to go, or Ixnay.

I gave my friend a whole collection of Offspring - on mp3 and he was listening here and there, and his result comment was:
Americana is the best!
I agree with that. Americana is the album on wich pepole are getting addicted with The Offspring , and It's really easy to listen it - Not too short, nor too long, and always amusing, so tell him 2 listen Americana :D
