I started a new stay-awake pill and I wanted to come on for a while but now my heart is racing and I am scared after a bad reaction to a medication I took 2 years ago! I am having a heart attack really bad! HELP!

Stay awake pills?

Well sir, there is only one way to counter that get some sleeping pills. And don't just take one, take the hole bottle! Heath Ledger did that, and he was a pretty cool dude.

I don't know if anyone has eaten here, but it is supposed to be a place completely embracing the terribly, unhealthy food trend. Waitresses are dressed as sexy nurses, customers are called patients, fries cooked in 100% lard and a burger totalling 8,000 calories!

That's insane. And looks completely delicious. I'd go there. And get fat.

I saw something on the news about that place the other day. Apparently they've brought about a lot of controversy.

Yeah they appaprently had tons of protest groups and health officials after them. Yeah this one restaurant seems awful (health wise) but why aren't they going after the other 1000s of chains in the states that are terrible for you and much more accessible than this restaurant with one location?

Today I saw a girl on the bus porking herself on a Wendy's burger and I shuddered in revulsion since it was like 8AM.

Then I realized what an asshole I was being and I have felt awful about it all day. Kind of like Mr. Coholic should.

Can you get a burger from Wendy's at 8am? Or would she have warmed it up from the night before?

There's nothing wrong with having a hamburger at 8 am. Would it be okay if she was eating like an Egg Mcmuffin instead? It's just food.

I have no idea. I haven't been to Wendy's in years. A&W is my fast food of choice.

Damn those fat people.
Seriously. They're alright if you're a room or an open space, but buses? Airplanes?

They've never tried.

I too have the same feeling when I see fat people eating fast food that early in the morning. Its not that I hate fat people for being fat or anything. Its just that they have no sense of shame in the fact that they don't give a damn about their health and size. There was this one guy on the news a couple years ago who lost a couple hundred pounds. He said that daily, his breakfast would consist of about $35 worth of taco bell before he lost all that weight. That's disgusting and something I would never admit to the public if it were true about me. I had a Bojangles biscuit this morning and then an incredibly high calorie coffee blend thing. I feel kind of gross now, but damn it was good. Fortunately, this is a rarity to my diet.

That is something I was thinking about with the states and the health care reform. With Canada, I know the government tries to regulate foods and food labels etc., but still obesity is just under 1 in 4 people (that is, BMI over 30). In the states, obesity is something like almost 1 in 3 with 2/3rds of adult americans being at least overweight. This is going to translate into huge health care costs for cardiorespiratory problems, diabetes and insulin insensitivity, cancer, GI dysfunction, liver problems etc.. Is there any strategies to combat this?

I have a pretty high calorie diet, I think. I generally don't pay much attention to what I eat, but there are limits. Not to mention I exercise. Still, even though I don't believe BMI numbers are a very useful count, it's annoying to be in the overweight category. My BMI is 27 and it just frustrates me somewhere.

Body composition (fat % to lean tissue %) is much better than BMI but the availability of a high accuracy measure for this is hard to find/expensive so most people just use BMI. I do understand what you mean tho, especially if you exercise. Do you do resistance training? Muscle is very compact and heavy tissue so although super healthy, someone like schwarzenegger in his super strong man phase will have a larger BMI than someone like Homer Simpson right. So BMI can be useful for a lot of cases but you have to look at other factors for the whole story :)

Hah, no, I don't do any of that muscle-building stuff. I just run, so truly I don't have much excuse. I couple my exercise with plenty of Canadian enjoyments like beer and poutine, so there's a reason it's not lower. I'm essentially just yelling about nothing.

Still, I do run. In fact, it is six lovely degrees celcius out now and that's where I'm going.

I'm eating ice cream for lunch. I might splurge and have some top ramen afterward, though.

Oh, and I'm pretty skinny. Not unhealthy skinny, just a bit below average weight. I'd like to put on some more meat, but I actually have pretty good muscle tone, so I don't want to put on too much fat. I just wish my weight actually somewhat resembled my diet. I think I have the metabolism of a hummingbird.

I put on 20 pounds (edit, fine... more like 25) in 4 years eating like crap and drinking most nights of the week with little to no exercise. I don't think my metabolism slowed down until I turned 21 or so, but then I kind of realized all at once that I'd hit 200 pounds.

Still, you know what aggravates me? Nothing that's healthy tastes good! I mean, seriously. Fuck me, juice has as much sugar as cola? Eat well, pay more! Maybe a few years ago I wouldn't have minded paying a little more for healthier meals, but now I find I can't afford the difference and still eat something that doesn't taste like a brick of sand.

Ugh, I do like to complain. But this is actually something I run out of steam pretty quickly about, because mostly I want other people to do the work for me, pointing me to something that would fit what I want. I'm too lazy to do the work for myself.

I'm amused at how I helped turning this thread into a fast food / fat / skinny people discussion even though there's this other thread that tries to seriously discuss these things. Instead we turn a joke thread into a serious thread and make fun of the primarily serious one. I love this BBS:D

I suppose if expecting me to make a statement aimed at making people be a little reflective before they post is the type of response you would expect from me, it's an unfortunate cross I'll just have to bear.
