Maria, I know you've come back to the forums after a long absence, so you are clearly bored. But your life cannot possibly be this empty.

I'm not sure I can say anything in that thread but I think there should be something about pstcount. Some people have been here for years and post occasionally but they don't seem to "belong" here... I"m always impressed when I see 10.000 :D

Edit: I don't agree about the permaban. I'm here for less than 6 months and I know what that means :D

Edit: sorry Harley, it took me years to grasp. I guess I'm slow on the uptake, add to that the fact that I don't read what I don't care about... and yet, dura lex sed lex!

lol, don't worry about it, it took me years to understand what dura lex sed lex means...

You thought it was "Durex, let's sex", perhaps?

My Latin teacher once said, very earnestly and her finger marking every word, that we should always remember that the phrase "dura lex sed lex" was incomplete, and ought to be appended with... something very important, crucial and vital, that I've completely and utterly forgotten.

Anyway, don't you just love those stupid Latin proverbs. Si vis pacem, para bellum! Vox populi, vox Dei! Hic jacet lepus! (j'avais jamais entendu "de cujus"... j'aurais cru que a voulait dire "couillon", probablement"...) De profundis clamavi! At augusta per angula! (or sth to that effect) Tempus fugit! Panem et circenses! used to have a whole stash of them...

lol I edited the de cujus part cause it has nothing to do with the rest but you read fast ! :D

I learnt that in... hm.. I have no idea how to say that in english so... Droit des successions. And Tempus fugit ! I only remember the X files called that ...

Guess it would be sth like "succession of property law". To be checked, it's late, I'm off, totally knackered. plus!

or "Where the dead guy's money go Law"

Says she who moderates said forums.

My comment was not meant to disparage the forums -- I work here because I like it. It was more a reference to your apparent disdain for them. Life is too short to put this much energy into talking about how much you don't like something.

I would just like to point out that I do know what the permaban is and this thread is dumb!

EDIT: I just want to say that I am called a troll but I find CJ's posts(some of them anyway) rude or just pointless. You may need to think about it, or it just makes sense to me but most of my posts mean something. It isn't like his whole "My ass" song!

Relax. CJ is a troll. Everyone knows.

Duskygrin is a frog though, not a troll.

Okay... are you calling her a frog as in "ribbet ribbet" or is that an internet term? Dusky usually posts way too long so after I read about half of it, I get bored and lose interest!

EDIT: I don't seem to fit in here(obvious), yet I still feel I belong here(I know you guys are going to give me a bunch of shit about this comment, so please, no mean things!)!

Duskygrin, Harley, myself and I believe darea are all part of the forum's resident frog population.

- at some point or another, they have all read 1984 (the book) and professed their admiration for this work and its author in cool, sober phrases (as opposed to glowing, exuberant praise).

- at some point or another, they've all added with much flippancy "condom or the pill?" as a wink and a nod to those "who're in the know".

- if you politely ask them "does your garage have rafters?" they will instantly emit a low chuckle and reminisce over the good times.
None of these apply to me. Am I an outcast?

I confirm for Darea. They call us that because we eat raw frogs for breakfast.

Fixed that sweetly.

And please to keep your barroom "Life is too short" would-be philosophical arguments for those who have any use for them. Thanks.

Maria, are you going to be in the States any time soon? You seem like you could really use a hug.

You know, your life is going to be even shorter if you don't get that raging case of syphilis taken care of.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syphilis

The "neurosyphilis" and "alternative names" sections are particularly interesting.

General paresis, otherwise known as general paresis of the insane, is a severe manifestation of neurosyphilis. It is a chronic dementia that ultimately results in death in as little as 23 years. In general, patients have progressive personality changes, memory loss, and poor judgment. In more rare instances, they can have psychosis, depression, or mania. Imaging of the brain usually shows atrophy.

The name "syphilis" was coined by the Italian physician and poet Girolamo Fracastoro in his epic noted poem, written in Latin, titled Syphilis sive morbus gallicus (Latin for "Syphilis or The French Disease") in 1530.

Hi, naive Harleyquiiinn speaking.

I don't see why you considered this thread being empty or mean.

Maybe it is not the most interesting thread that has ever been created but it is not empty or provocative.

I don't see why finding THE thing that makes an "old" user belong to that board, THE private joke that says "I'm here for a long time" is offensive in any way. Especially when the thread is created by someone who is here for more than 3 years and who knows the meaning of the said private jokes.

But then again, maybe I didn't see anything offensive because I am not here for so long...

Harley, there's a lot of history here that I think you might not be getting. I don't think the thread is empty, but it is unnecessarily mean. I would hope that Maria has enough in her life to fill it without forcing her to fixate on the same things about the forums that have pissed her off for so long, especially when her return was met with no real static at all. Or is that what she was going for and is now hoping that this thread would get her that kind of a reaction? I'm a bit tired of being a punching bag when forum malcontents feel like they're not getting enough attention or adolation, sure, but outside of that, there's just no reason for a thread like this. Most of the long-term veterans that people who have had trouble making friends here have scapegoated for their troubles have moved on from the forums, for instance.

Hmmmm.....

I didn't see that at first, so I was like "how could she get such a rise out of sarah with no words? was it like, a series of threads from that time... who the fuck would bump this?"

Now I remember reading this thread.

She actually deleted her post in that "success on the bbs" thread after I asked her why she was using Justin's old picture for her avatar. Then I stumbled onto this thread while searching for the thread about Flo from the Progressive ads, so I figured it was worth a bump.

I saw a movie once that implied that Pirate sex was the best kind. Or at least the most expensive kind.

I believe it was called Pirates.

And I imagine nieh has some tricks up his sleeves. An ace in the hole, if you will, which is deliciously apt.

I actually find the notion that this is the lowest common denominator of guys who "belong" here to be quite amusing in and of itself.

Good job Maria.
