I find Locrianisms interesting, but only as passing tones. I'm a big fan of atonality as a whole, but I think bands who base most/all of their songs around being atonal and using awkward rhythms and sounds are kind of lame and they always sound like they're trying to come off as "artsy" when in reality, they just needed a cop out to avoid having to actually write good music.

I find atonality in general is better to keep in mind as a possible tactic than as a whole songwriting strategy.

i find i need to be in a certain mood to listen to atonal music. Sometimes its interesting to hear, there is some good atonal stuff out there...however, i had to listen to a full atonal concert of about 1 hr, and found after twenty mins i wanted to kick a baby.
