I saw the offspring play with 311 in Camden NJ back in 2003 (I think it was '03)... Kind of ironic I've already seen this show.

Great ! soooo

1) I think that when this tour finishes we might get the new album quickly?

2) I think that during this tour we'll get to see new songs?

3) I think that this tour would make them release the new album late this year or 2011 and not by july/august 2010 or so?

4) I think that the band has already composed almost all the new songs for the next album even before we were told that it was gonna come out?

5) Do the band likes too see fans like me go crazy, starting questioning myself about a great "new", that they will tour again?

god just some yes or no questions, that I can't find the anwers right now :D

I was thinking the same thing. Since 311 (almost) always calls their tours Unity Tour, maybe The Offspring will open for them or co-headline.

Normally Offspring opening , but it won't make any difference on the set length I think. I think they'll probably give a normal set of around 70 mins (like last tour(s) ). So first opener 30-40 mins, then Offspring with a set of around 70 mins and then 311 with a set of around 90-120 mins.

ThePhantom
03-13-2010, 03:34 AM
I think The Offspring isn't a band to open another band. At least, it should be a band bigger than them.

But let's see how it goes.

Tijs
03-13-2010, 05:12 AM
Isn't it possible that they're both headliners? I've seen other bands tour together more often and none of them really 'opened' for the other one. Though those bands were more of the same genre.

I'm not really sure what connects these two bands. They don't have a real history together, they play different music -> generally speaking different fans.
And I've got no idea how well known 311 is in the US, but in The Netherlands hardly anyone would know them.

But both of their latest albums were produces by Bob Rock... So will this be a Bob Rock tour?

It's gonna be like Rancid and Rise Against tour last year. Rise Against was the main headliner, Rancid was second. 311 toured with papa roach, in the same type of tour, some years ago.

In Europe they're unknown, exactly. But it seems that in the USA they're famous, check their videos on youtube. It's like an arena rock band show!

I don't get why The Offspring want to be part part of this, but they should know what they're doing, I guess.

No way offspring are supporting

it's the 311's SUMMER UNITY TOUR! Not Offspring's. Offspring will appear as co-headliners.

"311's genre-combining Summer Unity Tour, which was founded in 2006. The inaugural event visited comprised nearly 40 concerts and included sets from Pepper and legendary reggae group The Wailers. Last year's event featured Snoop Dogg and special guest Fiction Plane."

According to 311's forum, The Offspring will be the main act and most of its users are pissed off by having Offspring as main openers and they think that The Offspring isn't a band big enough for that. OMG!

http://bbs.311.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73028&page=2

I think they really need to search who are the biggest band, 311 or The Offspring. Because I've never heard of 311 in my country.

Gustavo

I can't imagine Offspring opening for 311, I have never heard of them. The first time I heard about them was in that thread in the Tour Talk concert.

Maybe this will be like that Pop Disasters Tour that Green Day did with Blink-182? Where the bands were co-headliners? Meaning: Neither Offspring nor 311 will open for each other.

Call it what you like, but they'll play before 311, just as Green Day always played before Blink at the PD tour. It gave Green Day an extra motivation to put on the best live show they possible could do to make Blink look like shit. I hope it'll have the same effect on Offspring.

It does seem as if 311 will be closing the show: although i doubt they'll have a longer set time.

This still seems bizarre because i didn't think they were that big of a band.

ThePhantom
03-13-2010, 01:08 PM
iGustavo, the PD tour was before AMERICAN IDIOT. By those times Green Day was even less known than Offspring nowadays, so Blink 182 was commercialy a bigger, by far, band than Green Day!

Actually, looking through a certain thread on their boards, they are being much more insulting. People here are saying that The Offspring should open, as they are the bigger band. People on their boards are saying the Offspring are "talentless hacks", they don't want to listen to them screech for an hour, they are a TERRIBLY opener and other things.

No way offspring are supporting

I don't actually know whats going to happen, I am citing Precedent here.

11/29/03
Philadephia, PA w/ 311, Dashboard Confessional

I was at this show. It was actually in Camden, NJ just outside of Philly.

The show was Dashboard, then Offspring, then 311.

Therefore I would assume 311 will take the closing stage. They have more fans, more diehard fans then the Offspring do.

As I've seen 311 4 or 5 times, and the Offspring 7 or 8 times, I know what kind of shows they play, and I just feel its a better show if the Offspring close. Im bias because I like the Offspring better, but you don't want to have a energetic performance followed by a mellow trippy style performance.

What are the chances of the Offspring touring again next year? I know they always say they love touring but idk if I should see them this year(not a fan of 311 and have heard their shows have really high costs and i'll most likely have to drive 6 hours to get to wherever, which for the Offspring is worth it but I'd rather see them with a band that I semi like) Should I just suck it up or gamble the wait? haha

This is of course just pure speculation, but one would logically assume that the new album won't be out this summer. The band needs to tour/promote the album whenever it gets released. Thus they will most likely tour again fairly soon: probably spring/summer of next year.

Just because the studio cam has not been on lately, does not mean they're not in the studio. If this is a normal paced album for them (not like RAFRAG) mixing and recording may be done as soon as May or June, it's safe to say it will be out by the summer and this tour will be supporting it.

I would be very, very surprised if they finished it by the summer. It took them more than an entire year to record RAFRAG and they just entered the studio. They need finish recording, then do post production, and than issue a single, and then finally release the album. It's already halfway through March.... the new album ain't going to be out this summer. The fall, at the earliest.

To clear up some confusion and misconceptions

311 fans are not mostly bros. The obnoxious fans may stand out more but they don't represent the majority. If you throw a good party, all kinds will show up.

Most of 311s music is high energy, not mellow and trippy, though there are some mellow songs, probably 75% of their catalog is high energy.

311 may be relatively unknown in Europe and South America, but they often 15,000 fans per night on their Summer Unity Tour.

Good news, touring this soon again...

311, never actually heard of them. I checked out a Finnish community where they have 24 fans while The Offspring has about 3000. I could swear they couldn't fill up even a medium size bar in here. :D

Maybe I'll have to check out that band though!

isn't 311 a self-proclaimed rock band that actually just plays ska/reggae ?No, they are a rock band that blends numerous styles including but not limited to funk, hip hop, reggae, jazz, brit pop, metal. What the radio plays is just a very small fraction of 311s catalog.

it's the 311's SUMMER UNITY TOUR!

The issue that some 311 fans may have is not that The Offspring isn't big enough to open. The issue is that they are actually too big and that gives them a lot of stage time. Conventional wisdom is that the more stage time the "opening" band gets, the less time remaining for the headlining band. Those people just want a full length 311 show.

Never really cared for 311, but I've always been a fan of having acts of different styles touring together. It's boring when a punk band's opening acts are all punk. Meh.

I also agree that dd/mm/yy makes more sense than mm/dd/yy, and I'm an American :P But I probably won't end up being able to catch this tour.

Edit: just saw they'll be at Summerfest in Milwaukee... now it's become a possibility that I catch it! :)

hi, 311 fan here. just wanted to clear up some misconceptions about my favorite band. all fans are not 'bros' or any other type of meathead that go to concerts. generally, those types of people are there just to see a concert and not 311 specifically. and while the thread on the 311 board has a lot of people bashing the offspring, there are plenty of fans that want to see this tour happen, myself included.

yes, it is true, 311 does not have a huge worldwide fan base(they are pretty big in japan but thats about it) like the offspring does, but they are hugely popular here in the states. 311 has never sought mainstream success. they pride themselves on building a fan base on word of mouth. you may have heard some of their singles(down, all mixed up, beautiful disaster, amber etc..), but most of the hardcore 311 fans scoff at those songs and use them as a opportunity to get beer or take a piss.

311 blends a lot of different styles like someone in here already posted. i understand that might turn some people off to their music. i personally love how they can blend rock, rap, jazz, reggae and electronic music into one song and have it sound great. not a lot of bands can do that. if you are interested in hearing more 311 songs, i would kindly suggest you go out and buy their album "Grassroots". 10 out of 14 songs are more upbeat and are more to the liking of offspring fans. hell, u can even download it for free on the internet, i dont care. as long as they are being heard, thats all that matters. the band feels the same way. spread the word of 311

so here's to the offspring touring with 311 this summer. this will be my first time seeing the offspring live and im excited about it. hopefully i will get to rock with you guys during the offspring set and hopefully you will stick around to see 311 play. they are one of the hardest working rock bands in music today and their live show never disappoints.

peace

ps. i literally laughed out loud when someone posted that first straw video. it is generally regarded as 311's worst song and it doesnt get played at all.

I think it's really funny that Offspring fans are judging another band based on their singles. Don't you realize that, if a 311 fan doesn't know the Offspring, they'll probably judge them on Pretty Fly and WDYGAJ? We all know those are some of the Offspring's worst songs... and definitely not songs to judge the band by. The songs Krojd linked are two of 311's most famous songs. Are you really judging the entire band based on them?

The inter-band hatred is annoying.

unity
03-19-2010, 10:54 PM
If this is true then there's something wrong in the US.

I mean, listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt-nBwJR3KA or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw6_NUgbWtQ

I still cant believe that this band is going on tour with The Offspring...maybe as a headliner.

As another person said on here: You can't really base a band on two songs you don't like. Just as if 311 fans were to judge Offspring on two mainstream singles you don't care for. They have quite an extensive catalog... with MANY different styles of songs.

As for the tour, (being more of a 311 fan) I am extremely excited to see Offspring and 311 play together. I think it will be a great combination. I think both bands will play an epic show.

The one explanation I can give you (as to why 311 would be headliner) is that they have an incredible hardcore fan following. That's what makes them so huge here. Fans follow them city to city... state to state sometimes. There were 4 years between their 2005 record and their most recent one. In those 4 years, they were selling out arenas every Summer. They are known for their fantastic live shows... and I would give them a chance before you shoot them down.

It's easy to be close-minded and hate... but a lot more rewarding to give things a chance.

So... regardless on who opens for who... or if they get the same time... or alternate every night: We all win because we are in for an awesome night of music. :-)

See you all at the shows!

btw... don't mind any negative comments on the 311 board. Naysayers are everywhere (as I'm sure you have them here).... rise above!

Wow, and here I was having just decided ten minutes ago that it wasn't worth going to see a different band that gave the best live performance I've ever seen simply because they'll be playing at this venue. Irony hurts.

The entire front half of the seats in front of the stage for this concert were gone to the corporate executives' family members before the idea for this tour even poofed into existence in somebody's head.

There's an excellent chance that I may just drive to the show in Chicago instead. I'm going to be in front this time, so DTE Energy Music Theatre can go bugger itself.

What is the presale code for the Irvine show? I about kicked myself when I accidentally deleted the email with the code from my new phone. Any help? Please????

so do you guys think the offspring and 311 will have an equal set list? I hope The Offspring plays a full set (18-20) songs like last years tour and not a 14 song festival type set list.

What do you think is likely?

its going to be more of a festival set list. but maybe a little bit longer but not by much.

Agree, that sucks!! Come NORTH fellows!

agreed. 311 hasnt played in sacramento in over 10 years, and that was a christmas festival show. the last regular show they played was on the transistor tour, which was 1997. it was my first show. i dont think theyve ever played in stockton. prob never will :(
