I just realized yesterday that Better Than Ezra released a new album last year. I know I'm one of maybe four people on the BBS that actually listens to them, but I wanted to hear what others thought. After one listen, I thought it was reminiscent of "Before the Robots" because like "Before the Robots" it has many similar if not recycled bits from "Closer." I don't mind that so much, though. I did feel the album was a bit too on the slow side; the normal album composition of mostly rock with a few amazing really softer pieces has worked well for them in the past, where as for this album the focus was primarily on kind of but not quite soft rock.

That being said, I thought the first track, "Absolutely Still," was PHENOMENAL and there isn't exactly a "weak" spot, though there are a couple filler songs.

Thoughts?

I've never listened to any of Better Than Ezra's new stuff. I always thought they were a one-hit wonder band when they released they had a hit called "Good" 15 years ago.

Huh, I try to keep on them, but I didn't realize they released an album, either. I'm gonna download it asap and then I'll let you know what I thinx.

How insightful... are you expecting us to tell you what their other hits were? Are you implying that you haven't listened to them because they apparently only had one hit? Or are you just stating useless facts?

Mm, I don't know about ONE hit. Desperately Wanting was also pretty big. I'm not sure about a third, but this topic has piqued my interest. I'm going to check them out further.

#1 Good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji0pyRmSnTY)
#2 Desperately Wanting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9-FD5un87M)
#3 At the Stars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xvVBa2J4DE)
#4 Extra Ordinary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91uXOWABca0)

I'd say those were all hits to some extent, and I think most people would recognize King of New Orleans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hTSKBsADE8), In the Blood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MNKr4h9qrU), and maybe A Lifetime (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ2QT88m_nk).

I don't get why the official videos for none of the songs besides A Lifetime are on youtube...

I've seen that video of "Good" before, and that particular live version is worlds better than the studio version, in my opinion. After hearing that sweet little guitar solo/bridge/whatever he added at the start, that area of the original version seems like an awkward void to me. These guys seem like a pretty good live band. Although the bass right there is pretty good, and you can't hear it in that live version, I still think it makes the song better.

He's just throwing his point of view into discussion. Useless - most likely, harmless - definitely.

And: never heard of them.

They are such a great live band. I only mildly liked them til I saw them live. Since the first live show, I got all their albums, got a live DVD, and have seen them like 4 times.

Check the video I linked for "King of New Orleans". It's from the live DVD I have. It starts getting truly awesome at 2:40 :D

Well, I just haven't heard of their music in years and didn't even know they had a new album.

Unfortunately, they have no dates scheduled for an album tour, yet.

Also: Taylor swift did a cover of "Our Last Night" not too long ago, and I'd add "Juicy" to the recognizable list as it was on a couple of commercials.
