What up, ma homies?

Anyway, i want to buy a laptop (my computer is crap and i want to show off :p ) and have about £600/700 to spend on it. So basically i'm looking for people who've bought one and can recommend me a decent deal.

Links to websites would be helpful or whatever? :)

Cheers

Yay; another rather annoying thread for those who don't like me!

www.dabs.com (http://www.dabs.com/uk) - Best for cheap computer/laptops and accessories in the UK in my opinion. Toshiba do a decent range of laptops in that price area, my mate got a really good Toshiba laptop just before christmas and that was only just over £500, so you could find an excellent laptop for that price if you go with Toshiba.

Dell (www.dell.co.uk (http://www.dell.co.uk/) ) are also constantly bringing out new deals on laptops and so you could easily find a decent laptop from them too. And hey, they're one of the best manufacturers around so.

Whatever you buy, don't get anything from MaxData. Unless you want to buy one to give to a small child just to see the look of hurt of their face when it stops working and they won't honour the warranty... yeah :p

Since i recently became addicted to ebay, i'm gonna tell you to check ebay.
I wouldn't advise getting a laptop though. For ?700 you could get a top of the line desktop.

I know i could but i have a desktop and they annoy the hell out of me :p That's a bad excuse i know. I've looked on ebay but Iím not entirely sure about them because of warranties etc.

Also i like to be able to work anywhere (eg. sitting in the middle of a field is my favourite) because my house is extremely noisy. My desktop is for games and the net so i need like a working one - i have a job so money isn't really too much of a problem right now.

Gotta agree with this. Not sure about the quality of laptops, but I've had my Dell computer for 3 years and I've had precisely 0 problems with it, and it was a great price. I strongly recommend Dell.

I've had my Dell PC 2 years this March, and still had no problems with it.

I looked at the Dell website - they look pretty damn good and they even have a free delivery offer on right now which looks damn cool, i'll probably get one from them. Tis pretty good that neither of you have experienced problems with them.

I have a fujitsu desktop - had problems with it since day one, but my dad refuses to believe that there's anything wrong with it and that all computers crash at least once a day. Never buy a fujitsu.

Honestly, mine doesn't. It's on every day for a few hours, and at most it crashes twice a week. But my last PC crashed loads. Get a Dell and you too can be like me and have hardly any crashes. =D

They stopped doing it :-(

Just basically get the cheapest laptop you can with the longest batt life. That's all you need in a laptop. IF you want performance you need a desktop befcause a laptop's hard-drive is shit. So no point getting a high spec laptop.

Where does it say what the battery life is? Or am i just being retarded again? :D

I'm thinking this one:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=83834

But not sure. Any views people?

That's not a mobile processor, it's a cheap desktop replacement but it's batt life won't be good.

Google the model name and see reviews.

It depends what you want it for. Do you want it so you can run it off batts? or will it be mostly plugged in? If it is the one you linked to is fine. But if you want to take it out for a long time it will suck because it isn't a mobile processor.

Well probably a lot of time spent plugged in, but like occasionally off batteries.

You got any suggestions? Need at least a 40Gb hard drive, floppy disc would be useful but not compulsary, at least 256MB RAM and must be able to multitask effectively.

Cheers for everyone though. :)

40GB hard-drive is fine but remember if you need extra room you can buy a desktop hard-drive for £40 for 120GB and get a USB 2.0 enclosure for £20 and plug the hard-drive into your laptop's USB port for extra storage. So don't get a big HD no point.

Wow! Ebuyer is cheap - i just found the same one for £884 inc VAT! Ebuyer is
£587.49 inc VAT. Crazy. Battery life of 2.8hrs so seems pretty good.

Might get - just gotta get the credit card of my father.....

Dell sucks.. I know people who have Dell laptops/desktops and they fuck up all the time. I myself have an Apple powerbook and its AMAZING.. you might wanna check out www.apple.com and look at their ibooks/powerbooks. the small ones are pretty cheap.. and excellent quality.

I would recommend Toshiba! They are the most robust I know, work very stable, and got a very good customers service.
Or you should have a look at the apple iBooks. They are really not bad.

haha the laptop I bought for uni was a fujitsu, from ebuyer - only cost me about £550 though although worryingly, they discontinued the model the week after I bought it! Saying that, never had a single problem with it, and as said before; there's no point in buying a high spec laptop unless you intend using certain software. Ebuyer gets my thumbs up though and indeed, find yourself a student deal.
