I never actually noticed how staunchly the mainstream media has their nose up Isreal's ass. Worst of all, I just found out my two favorite house democrats, Weiner (http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2010/06/01/anthony_weiner_israel_liberals/index.html)and Grayson (http://mondoweiss.net/2009/12/gutsy-progressive-congressman-alan-grayson-leads-a-double-life.html), are part of that pro Israel no matter what crowd as well. Anyway, here's Greenwald arguing with some guy on MSNBC about that whole ship event. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j3XHHn1yWs&fmt=10)

Very nice, they could just replace Spitzer with Mark Regev and nobody would notice the difference. I wonder if Jon Stewart will make a segment about the media coverage.

That was really really interesting.

I never even knew Israel was blocking aid to Gaza and putting the Palestinians "on a diet". I guess the flotilla achieved its awareness-raising aim.

I wonder if this event will really force the American media to change its reporting (reportage?) of Israel/Palestine.

Aside from his widespread use of the word "everyone" and the citation of the UN as an impartial and objective source of information, I'm for it.

Is that Elliot Spitzer? The (married) New York governor who was caught banging $1000-an-hour prostitutes on the job? Talking about the "morality" of the situation?

I call bullshit. Or irony. Or both.

You don't often get a piece of cable TV this good, so it's worth transcribing and posting in its entirety. In a rare and contentious eight minute cable news segment, Glenn Greenwald decided to set the record straight with Eliot Spitzer on MSNBC regarding the Gaza flotilla.
But bush IS the reason repugnicants lost. I was a repub til "president Fuck UP". Keep listening to rush you dumbass, and you will keep pushing more out of the party.

He's actually pretty much the man except for that whole prostitute thing. He was on Colbert a few months ago and Colbert really ripped into him and Spitzer just took it and kept going through his points.

In other news, justifications for the killings make me rage like nothing else. Even NPR was giving me serious FFFFUUUUUUUUU spasms.

I loved Greenwald in that interview. He was awesome. Unsurprisingly, Spitzer was unphased by Greenwald's logic assult. Sadly, this is a minor exception in the 24/7 propaganda campaign in the media. There's no pretense of objectivity. There are HOURS of footage from all the cameras that taped this event, Israel releases a few minutes of edited footage that show the poor armed-to-the-teeth Israeli hard cases being harassed by the wicked aid workers and they're like "Case closed." They can't be THAT stupid. Cenk Ugyr did a nice bit on all this media silliness; http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x472442
Amy Goodman's also done some fantastic reporting on Democracy Now! As expected, she's always fantastic. Shit like this is why I primarily read independent or foreign media.

I've seen Spitzer on Bill Maher and he does generally seem like a swell and smart guy. You know, except the whole prostitute thing. Speaking Maher, he seems to be part of that crowd as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZbzs5BwBLA). All my favorite Jewish liberal elites are letting me down. I still have Stewart at least.

I'm still catching up on TDS but he hasn't said anything about it yet (I've only watched the first post-attack episode so far).

Yeah, you guys are right. They should just let those dirty, ugly faced bastards ship bombs and other heavy artillery in unchecked.

I wouldn't call them 'liberal elites', but professors Chomsky and Finkelsten continue to provide about the most substantive and accurate analysis one could hope to find, and they're both Jewish, or, rather, they were raised in Jewish families. What's interesting is the US opinion is even more polarized than the Israelis. In Israel this issue is the subject of debate. I think if a lot of stuff that gets published in Haaretz was published in the mainstream US media the columnists would be terminated on the spot.

That isn't a remotely fair or accurate characterization.

I was being facetious. =\

Regarding Chomsky, have you guys seen that interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCtYecGbQz8)he had in Israel after that whole boarder fiasco? So great how he just kept shooting down her talking points after talking points. Especially loved when he got her to that last hopeless moment of defeat where your only mechanism of defense is asking the tired old question of "What if you're wrong?"

Point being? All it has shown is a bunch of armed pirates "boarding" a ship in international waters (in the night) and shooting people multiple times in the back from close range. While the people on the boat defend themselves against the pirates with a metal bar.

Chomsky <3, probably one the biggest influences in my political awareness.
