Hey, y'all. Lately, I've been trying to cut down on my illegal downloads (I dunno, just because), and this has led me to troll the 'netz for legal stuff. It has created a two-pronged effect; First, I've been able to rest my paranoid head a little easier. Second, unintentionally, I've come across a lot of new music, since now I'm taking whatever is free, instead of looking for something I know and going after it, which is what I always do.

So yeah, this is a file sharing thread of sorts. I don't want to compete with some of you who have hundreds of discographies, so I'll take it from a slightly different angle. When I find something I like, I'll post it here. Could be a song, could be an album.

Alrighty, my first upload is something found just last night. It’s a sampler of songs from artists on the record label SideOneDummy. It’s called…”2010 SideOneDummyRecords Summer Sampler”. Now most of the things I upload will probably these samplers from different labels, but this one is by far my favorite to this point. I really dig every song except one, and even it isn’t too bad. I don’t know what kind of staff they have over there at SideOneDummy, but they do a good job of signing an eclectic mix of good bands, two criteria that some labels never seem to master. Either that, or they just did a good job of putting together a few songs to fool everybody. I’ll have to investigate further.

Here’s the album:

Enjoy!

1. Flogging Molly : Requiem for a dying song
2. The Gaslight Anthem : The spirit of Jazz
3. Audra Mae : Lightning in a bottle
4. The reverend peyton's big damn band : Clap your hands
5. Jesse Malin and the St Marks Social : Disco Ghetto
6. Chuck Ragan : The trench
7. Nathen Maxwell and the original bunny gang : salt and sand
8. Fake problems : Heart BPM
9. The black pacific : The system
10. Anti-flag : we are the one
11. The casualties : We are all we have
12. Broadway calls : Basement royalty
13. Big D and the kids table : Describing the sky

I thought i'd download more music illegally when i upgraded my internet connection to a faster one. Surprisingly it wasn't the case. I still download music illegally, but i usually end up buying the album, if i can find an original copy in a store (which i usually do). It's just something about buying a CD, opening the case, putting it into the stereo, listening to it while browsing through the booklet. It's a different feeling than just listening to the mp3s, even if you burn yourself a physical copy it's still not the same.

Yeah, Side One Dummy's lineup is pretty solid. I already listen to a good number of the bands on that sampler, but i still haven't checked out reverend peyton's big damn band, even though i've liked the one song that i've heard from them.

This one's huger, if you hadn't tried to download it yet. :D I think I'll try to find a way to make the files smaller in the future. Maybe break it up into two parts, or upload each song separately.

Nice find. It took ages to download but was worth the wait.
Thanks! Does anyone know of a file hosting site that allows you to create a folder, and then put individual files or subfolders into that larger one? Savefile does it, but I'm done with them.

I've got a few more lined up, so tonight or tomorrow, I'll be back. :)

So was I! I'm ridiculously out of the loop when it comes it. I never know where to start finding new stuff, so I just listen to the radio and wonder what the hell ever happened to music.

Same with me and porn, except I was right.

Somehow, I pictured you already knowing most of these bands. Don't know how, but good job.

I love that Reverend Peyton's song. It's my favorite from the sampler, so I'll definitely be checking them out further. The Gaslight Anthem, The Black Pacific, and the Big D and the Kids Table songs were other true highlights.

Woah, dude, my browsers tell me that the download will last for 1 hour.. not too used to it now, when dl-ing from rapidshare I have an album in 1 minute :D But I think it will be worth the wait, from what I have read.

I dig the Black Pacific track too. And i've been in love with Gaslight Anthem and Big D for a while now, two bands that are definitely worth pursuing further. Gaslight especially seems like a band that i think you'd really like.

Mediafire. All you have to do is register for free. Then you can create folders and share them as a whole. Another great thing about MF is that you can download 4 files simultaneously and there's no waiting time.

Alright, so neither of the things I wanted to download for you guys is cooperating, so my next upload is a collection of songs that SPIN magazine gave away this time last year. I don't remember what they called it, but it was something like "SPIN/Rhapsody Extras," as it was actually Rhapsody that was hosting the songs. They did this at least four times, and this is the second release. Decent collection overall, not too special. But two of the songs are among my favorite of this millennium. I'll bold them below.

01. Scotland Yard Gospel Choir - ...And the Horse You Rode In On
02. The Antlers - Two
03. Asobi Seksu - Transparence
04. Cage - I Never Knew You
05. Datarock - True Stories (I loooove this song)
06. Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions - Blanchard
07. Howling Bells - Cities Burning Down
08. Japancakes - Behind the Mountains
09. Loney Dear - Summers
10. Patterson Hood - Understand Now
11. Those Darlins - Red Light LoveI hope I haven't deleted any.
