So in this thread, you upload music or videos to yousendit.com and post the link to the file here for us to download. I'd recomend only posting music that many people haven't heard of so we could hear new things

Here's some instrumental rock/fusion/jazz/ prog metal for ya.

Nice, Liquid Tension Experiment. Basically Dream Theater minus vocals. I think you're just trying to pimp that website for some reason though.

It's been a godsend eversince I've heard of it. It's pretty neat since you don't have to pay for server space. I have no affiliation with the actual site though. I just have too much time in my hands so I'm trying to share some music but no one seems to want any of it. I'm just trying one more time.

The only way to get people into prog is to make them listen to it in person.

I'm bumping this old thread because I believe it has potential.

Pain of Salvation - Pluvius Aestivus
http://s21.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0X2WH1WRQWNCJ1VDAPHEOT5ATM
This is an instrumental song(mostly keyboard) from their album Be. It's really trippy when listening to it while having some visulisation on.

Pain of Salvtion - Lilium Cruentus (Deus Nova)
http://s7.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=30270JOZZZRDS29RFVZOQ4QH6I
This is another song from the album Be.

This concept album should really be heard in it's entirety. God, I love prog.

Pretty nifty.

I have limited songs on my computer, and don't feel like putting more songs on there from my CDs, but there may be a few:

The Weakerthans - Aside
http://s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ZCB086WSUQIZ0N9J3JK92A5JO

Always trying to get people to listen to 'em... this song's pretty poppy for the band but I loves it.

Also, that progressive stuff really doesn't do much for me...

Dimmu Borgir (I *THINK*... the vocals don't sound like them but everything else does) covering "Powerslave" by Iron Maiden. (Jebus.. tell me if you know if it is or isn't them)

I'm not really a giant Dimmu Borgir Fan so I wouldn't know. I'm not into that guy's voice. I liked that song though.

I like the first song a lot, but I only really like the softer instrumental parts of the second. The first song is more soundtrack music or classical than real prog though. The second one has a decent mix of both, but I don't like it so much when the rock elements show up (there's a few bits that are still ok when it does though). Plus I've come to the conclusion that 99% of prog singers need to shut up because they ruin the music.

I really don't like the Weakerthans...I tried really hard to like them for like a week. I saw someone with Jets to Brazil, Minus the Bear and Weakerthans bumper stickers on the back of their car...and I love Jets to Brazil, so I checked out the other two. Minus the Bear I love now too, but the Weakerthans...they sound too much like an emo-NoFX to me with a speck of folk. And that voice bothers me. I still tried the song but it's just not for me.

I like Spoon though! I bought one of their albums after downloading a couple of their songs.

Most people complain about the voice, I don't mind. I love their music and think it is totally unique, but I can see why it wouldn't be to all tastes. I also have quite the love for country rock and I think that fits in there as well.

Anyway, I intend to add a couple other links at some point, but have no idea what. There's really no pressure cause I know that barely anybody will care. Right now I should be studying for my exam tomorrow morning however.

Acid Rain is actually pretty cool. It's a lot more interesting than anything I've heard by Dream Theater. Biaxident isn't as much fun though.

I've heard the Dream Theater songs before, and they just don't really do anything for me.

I've never heard Wire and I've wanted to because everyone seems to love them. I like the song and will probably check out more by them.

Sleater-Kinney...I heard like 3 songs by them before and hated them all. I think one of them was just called "O". But this song is pretty good. Aren't they supposed to not have a bassist though?

Guster - Medicine (http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1PD1QEF5NHFIB37EBEAE0V1G2K)
Guster - Airport Song (http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1RO21HCQTX9MK25LA0XSS9OW5C)

Guster are mostly-acoustic guitars with mostly-bongos (though they've progressively gone more towards electric and kit, they're still good)

Soul Coughing are a self-described 'slacker jazz' band...and that's about right. They mash said slacker jazz with hip hop, pot, rock, etc. I like them.

Soul Coughing - Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago (http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0O05SJCJOCDLG37AP4AGFL5MTI)
Soul Coughing - Sugar Free Jazz (http://s32.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=10DIX5TKRDRWK1TDMVF0W4W4XL)

Wire is not nearly as good as that song, in my opinion. Very simple old sounding punk. I bought the CD cause I liked a few songs but I don't listen to it much... it's more of a mix CD song I think. Glad you like it though!

Sleater-Kinney however I think is consistently good. Not sure what you heard... Some of the older stuff I've heard was a little sketchy... but the whole album that that song is from is great. I will upload a couple more... if not for you than maybe for somebody.

I'm not too terribly fond of Jebus' newest batch.

Since everyone seemed to like these guys, I'm posting some more Jets to Brazil and Presidents. I'm also posting 2 more Dismemberment Plan songs that sound nothing like the other 2 Dismemberment Plan songs I posted...cause I'm kinda surprised less people liked them than I thought would.

Presidents - Jupiter (http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=349039SXGE15B02LCOI9AM3J3S)
Presidents - Meanwhile, Back in the City (http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=26D4Z77WPOFGJ3B17NOXWOZHNM)

Jets to Brazil - Morning New Disease (http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3U2TPQD5WXHV01WZA1305RNOWO)
Jets to Brazil - Milk and Apples (http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3S5FBDMIWGCMT2E3GR1DMUF4CV)

Morning New Disease and Lemon Yellow Black were from their first album "Orange Rhyming Dictionary" which is the most indie-rock sounding. Milk and Apples is from their second album "Four Cornered Night" which is much more pop-rock sounding. They're both great albums but for totally different reasons. Their third album "Perfecting Loneliness" just sucked as a whole (though there were a few decent bits here and there) so I'm not gonna bother putting anything up from it.

Dismemberment Plan - Girl O'Clock (http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=30R7STQ46KI7O38P07FA7RD8OU)
This one's heavy, punk-ish, spaztic, noisy and kinda odd. Yay

I listened to some of the Liquid Tension songs. They're pretty good. I like the piano/keyboard parts a lot (eg Acid Rain beginning), and generally the really fast parts. But I don't see myself actually sitting down and listening to that kinda music too often. I will incorporate in my playlist however.

Okay, now I must indulge. There are 3 bands in my life that I would say have truly made me really excited about music. Those are: The Offspring, The Replacements, and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. So, in case you have been waiting to fall in love with them your whole life as well...

The Replacements - Can't Hardly Wait (This one I love... just good)

http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1GJA37BSD1F741EUO968J7YAEM

I will limit to two songs... if anybody likes I can add a couple more... they've got beautiful ballads that will make you cry, fun happy songs that will make you dance, and raw rock/punk songs that are well... just good stuff.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Timorous Me (the drums pump me up)
http://s31.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2SQKU9YN2UST83940D7PJU7378

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Me and Mia (sorta funny quality cause it's just a pre-recording thing... this one I can literally listen to on repeat)

K, this is just a CD I recently borrowed... that I wanted to hear cause of all they hype... and I must say it's pretty addictive. So yeah... dance-rock... semi-annoying girl singers... catchy stuff. Not too special... more just if you're interested in the band.

Hmm... What can I say about this guy? For one thing, those guitars on my avatar are some of his signiture guitars. He's my absolute favorite guitarist and the reason why I don't listen to much music with vocals anymore. His unique sence of melody is something that I've haven't seen before in any other music.

Here are some of his more somber and mellow tunes but are still very nice.
Steve Vai - Blue Powder

Steve Vai - Die To Live

Steve Vai - Boston Rain Melody

These are some of more his fun stuff
Steve Vai - The Audience is Listening

Steve Vai - The Reaper

Erotic Nighmares

Those songs are probably some of his more first time listener friendly music.

VAI
IS
THE
FUCKING
MAN!

heres a cool song by Joe Satriani

Satriani has taught players such as Kirk Hammet and Steve Vai.

"Midnight". Its a weird one. It almost sounds like some freaky techno song. The entire song is done with tapping on a clean guitar with some effects (chorus, delay?). It's really trippy. It sounds like a fucking syntheziser.

Can you guys say 80's? Coz thats what this track is. So 80'S.

This is similar to Steve Vai (its basically the same genre, but that's it).

Pop punk? You won't hear carousel on the radio. I'd say the older stuff is about 70/50 with more punk than pop punk.

Seriously, old offspring stuff sounds only vaguely similar to old blink stuff and we call both of them punk. It's too hard to define whether something is punk or not, or what kind of punk it is.

I uploaded this Dream Theater drum solo video in another thread so I might as well post it here. The thing that I like about it is that it somehow seems very melodical which is something I rarely use to describe anything drum related. The cheesy effects and the bad quality of the video ruin it a bit, but you could still hear it fine.
