My favourite female-fronted bands (not counting solo female pop rock, which I love): Aркона, ABBA, Arch Enemy, Cadaveria, Darzamat, Evanescence, Garbage, Guano Apes, L7, Leaves' Eyes, Meanstreak, Nightwish, No Doubt, One More Girl, Rednex, Republica, Selena Gomez & The Scene, Sirenia, Spice Girls, The Cranberries, The Epoxies, The Faders, The Veronicas, Theatre of Tragedy, Theatres des Vampires, Tristania, Tsunami Bomb, Vanilla Ninja, Walls of Jericho, Within Temptation and X.

I enjoy the Creepshow (if you're into psychobilly, check them out!), Horrorpops, and lately i've really been digging RVIVR.

I also sort of dig Tsunami Bomb/Action Design: meaning i've liked the few songs that i've heard, but haven't checked out their albums. And the Distillers have their moments.

Oh man, I've been on such a lady-fronted band kick lately. My top three are Marnie Stern (crazy math-rock with tapping guitar lines all over the place), St. Vincent (indie pop with Disney clarinets and fucking evil fuzzy guitars), and Amanda Palmer's solo venture (piano rockk, I guess).

The Cranberries are a great band. Girlschool are an all girl 80's rock/metal outfit. They're alright.

Golliwog (http://offspring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32645) and Dover (http://offspring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33083) (links for music in the threads) are the female fronted bands that have grown on me the most. I will leave naming few other girl bands to llamas. ;)

Most of my favorite bands have women involved, if not solely involved.

1. Wir Sind Helden, my favorite band, German retro pop :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnJ5ZuvSKh0

2. Girl in a Coma, all girl band, one of my favorites... southern/latin/rock/pop/etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL68RhXvaXs

3. Sleater Kinney, all girl band, no longer together, but so fantastic... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbxRu7fwR24

4. Florence and the Machine, just found out about them, and their album is AMAZING http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGrx6etMl0w

5. Metric, indie pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQm1zs8EjAY&feature=fvst

I could go on for days, but these are some of my top favorites. :)

Man, you're reading my mind. I would also add Brody's project "Spinnerette" to the list cause it's pretty awesome.

Probably my fav by Tsunami Bomb is Tetanus Shot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CcHq0X9cv4), I like her voice.

But actually I'm more into The Distillers/Spinnerette at the moment, so here I have more favorites.

The Distillers:
Lordy Lordy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fioLxwKhMY4) (fast-paced, sort of Nirvana style)
The Young Crazed Peeling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6iKqOMPZTw) (in fact this one got me into them)
Seneca Falls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODGp9g9nJKk) (THPS4 much? Good times.)

Well and maybe I Am A Reverant and Love Is Paranoid.

Spinnerette:
Baptized By Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKcS1_f9M5w) (her best song ever in my opinion)
Impaler (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOXLXWqW0Uc) (almost hypnotic)

What else.... hmmm.. I guess I should mention Save Ferris - great, powerful voice! Oh, I almost forgot - Stolen Babies - one of the most seductive female vocals I've ever heard (and this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebZlgcSguq8) totally rocks). That's all I can think of right now.

I used to like Fabulous Disaster, but I really cannot specify whether the band is still around.

Tsunami Bomb
I used to like them in high school, but then I realized they're just an average punk band with a girl singer. Her voice isn't bad, though.

The Distillers/Spinnerette
I didn't mind the Distillers, but I thought they sounded exactly like Rancid, which was boring. Hadn't heard of Spinnerette before... it's cool to hear Brody actually singing (she sounds a LOT like Pink, actually), but I don't dig the music much. I do like it a lot more than the Distillers, though.

Jesus Christ @ at the comments under the first video.

Listening to the song dff posted... this one is better.

Holy shit, that's awful :(

Holy shit, that's awful :(

Some find it awful, some think it's wonderful, just a matter of taste. Can't say I listen to them on a daily basis but to my mind this song is still really good. Anyway, glad we disagree. :p

As for Tsunami Bomb, I'm not really much of a fan, so I think I can agree that they're just an average punk band. Still, I listen to them every now and then simply for lack of anything better.

EDIT

This is my biggest fave by Spinnerette:

Yeah, good song, it has yet to grow on me though since for the past few months I haven't really gone anywhere much beyond the self titled album.

I woulda said the Distillers/spinnerette but i figured most people knew about them specially here. Sing Sing Death House and Coral Fang are awesome.

Rainer Maria is a pretty good band. I think theyve broken up I don't know much about them. I have an album by them called "look now look again" it's kinda like nineties indie/emo kinda stuff. really awesome they split vocal duties with a lady and dude but i think the lady sings more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xffjf1dorMs

I really wish i could remember that sleater kinney someone put on at work the other day... I'm gonna have to see if we still have it next time i'm in there.

VIVIAN GIRLS!!! such an incredible band. They got two albums out(i still need to pick up the second one) but their first is great. I think they got a bunch of singles and shit to. This a "video" of a song from the album i have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UQLZmcT1dg&p=242E55B7B811CBBC&playnext=1&index=1

And If anyone wants bands that have females in the band but don't sing, theres Fucked Up, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Beastie Boys first drummer was a lady, Bullet Treatment have had ladies in the band.
I totaly forgot about beach house! Awesome album to walk home drunk at like 1 in the morning. I was in heaven
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw5hkqTiAPI
Lastly I wanna talk about The Bird and The Bee. Saw them open for Lily Allen the first time I saw her. I was surprised about how much I liked them. took the promo from work and I love it. Another great cd to listen to while high off your ass. BOth her voice and the lady from Beach House have such pretty voices.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opJtIYBgLDg
only time I've actually liked a bee gees song.
OH SHIT CRASS!!!!! loves me some crass!

Florence and the Machine is definitely pretty good. It's like if Annie Lennox made really pop-conscious music with a bunch of random people.

I'm of course going to give the obligatory Amy MacDonald plug, since she is awesome. Her first album particularly appealed to me for... some reason.

I recently have gotten into her, and I do like her... but I struggle because her stuff is just right on the border of being awesome, inches away from being sucked into the land of generic and bland. Somehow she manages to straddle that perfectly... but some of her songs are truly fantastic. And I reallllly enjoy "this is the life". But coneman pointed out that in "Mr. Rock n Roll", the chorus sounds like she's saying, "and the meat winderrrrr", which drives me NUTS now because I can't unhear it :(

Yeap, I dig some of her stuff too, I just didn't mention her because I thought we were talking about bands... are we?

And on a semi-related note, what do you think about the vocalist of The Pretty Reckless?

Florence and the Machine are so, so, so awful, sorry folks, but they're just so bad.

Lisa Hannigan on the other hand is one of the most talented women I have ever heard:

I'm not sure which F+M songs you've heard, but I'm really surprised you'd say this. Her songs are so complex and mature, and she's got a great blend of styles... I especially dig the soul feel to her songs. And I realllllly love the harp in most of her songs.

Now, if the song you heard was "Kiss with a Fist", I could understand. That song sounds like a wannabe Kate Nash or Lily Allen, and just isn't very original. I really enjoy this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGrx6etMl0w and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4iseF_FBn8

And you know I love Lisa, but I've been trying to keep my posts limited to bands, cause otherwise I'd go on forever :P

I'm not a fan of Lisa hannigan. My boyfriend his though, and can't stand Damien Rice... go figure...

But, since we're talking of Lisa Hannigan and Damien Rice, I bought the EP of Vyvienne Long (the Cello player). And that girl rocks. Her cover of N.E.R.D's "She likes to move" is something to listen...

RVIVR, a band that i've been listening to a lot lately has duel vocals (female and male), so i guess they count.

Good stuff, sort of similar to earlyish Against Me!: the only downside is that i think their sort of crust punk (ie they don't seem to shower much).

Is it just me, or has it recently become really "OKAY" to be a female fronted band in the mainstream? I like it. Lots of local bands are looking to add some female flavor to their bands. Its a trend I'm happy to embrace. :D
