So... we start to read that the separation might be possible in the future between the Flanders and the Waloons.

This is really unbelievable to me. It's hard to imagine that a country like Belgium who was chosen to represent unity in Europe might have, in less than a few decades, such difficulties.

Also, can each of these regions live by themselves ? Will it be 2 new countries ?

And what will happen to Brussels, as the capital of Europe ?
:confused:

Nothing will happen. The only thing that could make us seperate in the next few years is when the financial markets start doubting our credibility in paying back our debts (with high interest rates as a consequence). Which will make a significant part of the Flemish (wrongfully) believe that the price of Belgium is too high and that it's best to split the country.

How a seperation might be organised in such a case is quite unknown, will debt be split along population ratio's or via GDP. How will the borders be arranged? If you ask most separatists, they will argue that it will have to be along the "linguistic border" that currently exists, but that leaves the problem of Brussels (since it's bilingual). I guess that could become some kind of European Washington DC. Also what will happen with the German speaking part? Since everybody forgets ze Germans

As for both regions being able to live by themselves. Technically both regions could live on their own, since they already have a significant administration in place and also own governments, parliaments etc. (Think German Lšnder with more power). Whether it'll practically work because of the aforementioned problems with Brussels and the preceding financial insecurity is another question. Organizing a separation of a country during the biggest recession since WW2 is also completely moronic.

But all of this is hypothetical and unnecessary anyway since a compromise will be reached (as always). We've been doomed for the last 30-40 years, and we're still here and will be in the years to come depending on financial markets.

PS. We were not chosen to represent unity in Europe, but simply because of our location for France and Germany

These stories also surfaced a year or two ago. Splitting Belgium as two separate countries or split and The Flemish join The Netherlands, the Welsh join France.

The last option seems perfect to me.

Welsh (poverty, bitchiness) -> France
Flemish (money, chocolate, waffles, manneken pis, gold, Urbanus, Wim Helsen, Goedele Liekens) -> The Netherlands

Shit, even K3 is partially Dutch right now. If they can do it.

Sorry, got nothing constructive to add at the moment.

manneken pis

Only the Dutch would want mannequin piss.

Is that the Flemish idea of beer?
