From Ultimate-Guitar.com (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/nirvanas_grohl_novoselic_and_vig_reunite_for_foo_f ighters_album.html):

After touring with the heavy-hitting supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, Dave Grohl is getting back to basics with the Foo Fighters for their next album.

In an interview with the BBC, Grohl revealed the new Foos record is their heaviest one yet, with nary an acoustic guitar or ballad on the album. "Each song is full on, the whole record is full on," he said. "In the 14 songs, there's not one acoustic guitar, there's not even one in the house."

The Foo Fighters are cutting the record DIY-style in Grohl's garage "Totally old school analog," he said and the album finds Grohl returning to his Nirvana-era roots.

Nevermind producer Butch Vig is at the helm and bassist Krist Novoselic will make a guest appearance on bass.

"This whole project has been really cool," Grohl said. "I haven't made a record with Butch for 20 years." So far, the Foos have cut seven tracks and are planning to lay down five or six more.

Grohl also revealed that the Foos are documenting the recording process for a movie, to be released in 2011. And the group has already announced a few UK dates for July of next year. "Basically, 2011, you're not gonna be able to get us out of your hair, that's what we're planning," Grohl said. "I'm excited."

i hear they have just started work on a new crooked vultures album as well. he seems quite busy with things but hate to mention the old phrase, its quality, not quantity that matters!

Sounds dumb. They suck when they restrict themselves to noisy electric shit (I thought the 1st disc of In Your Honor was the shittiest thing they've ever released). And Them Crooked Vultures were awful and it sounds like they're going to influence this. Do people really still brag about not using acoustic guitars? Go join a biker gang, Dave.

Echoes Silence Patience and Grace while a good album, was definitely the weakest disc by far. I'm pretty excited about it. Maybe they'll do something like the first two again. Granted I'd be fucking stoked if they did something like There is Nothing Left To Lose again. Or maybe he'll do a hardcore album ala gas Chamber. or Dave's first band Scream.

I think Dave only really does the drums in TCV so I don't think you have to worry about him getting too watered down and everything. I think they kinda jam for a while and it goes from there.... From what i've heard TCV is alot less structured than FOO FIghters

to my knowledge, he was quite involved with the songwriting on the album. ive never actually heard the whole thing but from the songs i did hear, i couldnt really get into it!

Well the drumming is a pretty important part of the music so of course he was was heavily involved with the writing. I meant that in the case of TCV there were two other writers on the album as opposed to Foo Fighters where it's pretty much just Dave writing all the lyrics and melodies himself with a little bit of insight from the rest of the band. I liked the TCV album, but it's nothing truly spectacular.

Just Fuck you.

sorry dude, but as a massive Zeppelin fan, pretty big Foo Fighters/Nirvana fan, and someone that was reasonably fond of QOTSA...Them Crooked Vulture's are fucking awful.

I still don't understand all the hate TCV get. It wasn't as good as the best QOTSA stuff, but it was a decent album.

A new song, live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1a5WsCitTU

Please God, if you exist, let this be the most mellow song on the album. And let it be the only such song on the album.

It's not exactly bad, but it's again one of those countless FF songs that don't do much for me. I'll wait for the studio version, maybe it'll be better then. I bet this'll turn out to be a single.

HOLY MOTHERFUCKER! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebJ2brErERQ)

This is it. My expectations for the album just got blown through the roof. Goddamnit Dave, why the hell did you hold back, kept releasing such boring albums, when you were perfectly capable of doing this? No matter though, your sins have just been forgiven.

Hell fucking YES!

I enjoyed that, especially the video.

This already seems better, or at least more interesting than their last couple albums.

I think all the songs are already on youtube. They already played them live. I just couldn't resist checking them. I wasn't really a fan of Foo Fighters before. I just couldn't get into them. But this time around i can say that this'll be a genuinely good, perhaps even great album. Sounds like good old middle to late 90s alternative rock/grunge. Great hooks. And judging by White Limo, the production is going to be great, too. Not too polished, just the way i like.

Anyway, I'm deffinitely buying this.

Hehe, I am liking this too. Another album to really look forward. The cool thing to do would be to send this to some MTV as a totally official new video-clip!

I'm only familiar with Foo Fighters singles, so I don't know how different this is from the majority of their work. But Rope makes me want to be a better man. Or at least better guitar player. The song was great all the way through!

EDIT: Immediate second listen, even better than the first. I'M PUMPED.

Just listened to the album, it might be one of their best efforts ever, did not hear a single weak track. New Sum 41 is still better imho, but this is also highly enjoyable and I will listen to it more. :)

^ Gotta disagree with you on both points. These Days is kinda meh, but this album blows the new Sum 41 out of the water.

I think Wasting Light is amazing album, Foo's I've been waiting for sooo long... The colour and the shape will be my number 1 by them forever tho, I think.

9,5/10 for Wasting Light.

And new Sum41 sucks so much, Chuck is still only album I listen to.

Just bought the new Foo's. The album fucking rocks, and hard. It exceeded all my initial expectations, and despite heavy use of dynamic range compression (though it's nowhere near as bad as it could be) it sounds excellent. The production is great.

Oh, and adding an actual piece of the album's master tapes was a nice touch. I wonde which (short) part of which song it contains :)

It could be just since I've only listened to it once and that's it.... I'm not really feeling the new Foo's at all. I don't really know why. It's good, maybe I was just expecting something different? or better?
