Well its nothing special but i was messing around with the 5.1 channels from the greatest hits dvd and i made a quick remaster boosting up the vocals.

You are now able to hear louder what dexter is saying on this song.

Check it out on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLyoks2GwXs

Bass is faded out too much at the beginning and it sucks around 0:39, otherwise it's nice. It's gotta get away, can't be awful.

I think the concept is good, but the vocals are a little too loud. I like how the drums are a bit louder too...you can really hear the floor tom in the opening beat.

No, it is not. They are not the same.

Why would anyone REDUCE the bass on a song off Smash!? This is madness!

Another thing I noticed: In the opening beat, for the little fill with the high hat release, Ron does a press roll for that snare off beat ONLY the first time through when only the drums are playing. Otherwise he does a regular snare hit for that note because the press roll doesn't sound powerful enough when the rest of the instruments come in.

Ok ok... let me explain what was the point of this remix.

I wanted to boost the vocals up and remove as much of the instruments of the song. Making something like Acapella but without using a vocal extractor plugin. This is how i did it (from the Greatest hits 5.1 DVD)

1) Front Left (Channel ON)
2) Front Right (Channel ON)
3) Rear Left (Channel OFF) (It had some extra guitars there)
4) Rear Right (Channel OFF) (It had some extra guitars there)
5) Center (Channel ON inverse phase) (Was containing most of the Bass mid freq so i substracted it from the Front Left and Front Right channel)
6) LFE (Channel OFF)

So the point of this remix is to enjoy the awesome vocals that Dexter recorded for this song. Without stripping the other channels with vocal extraction plugins. I wasn't trying to remaster that master piece ;)

I know this was made to hear the vocals better but as a guitarist I can't help but listen to the guitar parts closely now that they seem more separated. It seems like there's almost a palm mute sounding type thingy in the chorus. It's practically non existent in the normal recording.

Yeah.. i heard that too. There are at least like 3 guitar layers in chorus. I think dexter or noodels is doing pal mute down strokes on single string.

Well i dont know, if some guys here wasn't hating that much i could isolate other instruments like bass and guitars or some kind of instrumental.
