View Full Version : Melodies you hate

I have no clue if this has been done before, or if it will be interesting at all. But I think it might be a bit more specific/interesting than a "what songs do you hate the most" type thread.

Personally: I can't stand the verse in Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes. I HATE it. I dunno why, but it reminds me of being at some lame party in the middle of nowhere on an extremely hot day that my parents drug me too when I was young. I just think it sounds annoyingly bad as well.

There's plenty more melodies I passionately hate. But I'm kinda buzzed/drunk right now...maybe I'll add more later.

Edit: Try to be specific as to which part of the song you hate. Otherwise, this is just an overdone thread.

Melody is the most important part of a song for me, so if a song has one that I can't stand, it's pretty much immediately dead to me.

I don't know the name of the one I'm thinking of, so I'll just start with that one song about peaches, by The Presidents of the United States of America. I've tried to like it many times, as it feels like a fun song that I should like, but the whole thing just bothers the shit out of me.

I used to be scared of this song when I was a little kid. Strange, huh? I think the verse is eerie.

Have you heard anything else by them? Peaches is cool, but nowhere near their best even though it's their biggest hit.

You know, I actually haven't heard any of their other stuff, but I definitely don't judge them for that song. They're on my "queue" I think I will thoroughly enjoy them overall...whenever I get around to listening to them. :)

There are many melodies I hate, but I absolutely can't stand the song "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden :eek::eek: This song creeps me out and makes me feel like I'm about to throw up. And run. And scream while throwing up, although I don't even think it's possible.

I used to fear of The Prodigy when I was a little kid. Especially music video for Firestarter and some cd called 'Music for the Voodoo Crew', I like it now. And I also like "Lemon Tree", not like the most, but that's not that bad.

Allow me to help you out, Randy. Here is some of their good easily accessible starter stuff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sj_U6vObUA ("Lump")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeiRTy4q3nQ ("Some Postman")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuk6vuNZiHY ("Love Everybody")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHIrJ_ejyXg ("Lunatic to Love")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRJUN0kZzk ("5,500 Miles")

A lot of their music is also just stupid and annoying. But turning something stupid into a catchy song is kind of their charm. They may not be for you.

I really hate Bitter sweet symphony - the melody, song, vid, everything about it.

Damnit people! You're supposed to be more specific! Like what part of the song makes you cringe the most.

There's a little background melody in the back third of "Run" by Snow Patrol that makes me mad because I kind of like it and it makes me want to listen to a Snow Patrol song, which I always regret doing afterwards.

The chorus of Clocks by Cold Play. Although to be fair, i find all of their songs to be irritating: Chris Martin's voice is horrible, but i find his awfulness gets amplified in Clocks.

I've always hated that song. There's honestly a relatively good chance I would have mentioned this song if you hadn't. I can't stand the chorus to that song. It's so sappy, and the lyrics do nothing for me. The verse is pretty dull as well (I only know this because I had to look it up to make sure that "Run" was indeed the Snow Patrol song I hated).

Get this: These lame indie-ish kids were all in an after school club that was responsible for selecting the candidates for the graduation song for our class. They picked Run by Snow Patrol. What the FUCK possessed them to pick that song?

Thanks for all those supposed-to-be-serious-or-not,-still-pretty-simple,-too-simple-telling-nothing lyrics I'm glad english isn't my first language, it's less irritating then, especially when it's going about pop music.
There is one thing that I hate, that is too long, monotonous beginning like in this one (http://michgub.wrzuta.pl/audio/aY9w1V93xAL/justin_timberlake_-_lovestoned_i_think_she_knows_kaskade_remix), concerns usually light stuff, remixes, not e.g pay the man.
Why all those graduation songs are so sad? Geez.

Agree 100% with Blister In The Sun. Horrible

I love Blister in the Sun. It's one of those songs that while moderately catchy (at least in my opinion), you wonder how it ever became a hit with how fucked up the lyrics are.
