The Tool thread being resurrected reminded me of this... has anyone else checked out Puscifer? It's basically Maynard's solo project. The first album, V is for Vagina, kinda sucked. I didn't get into it at all. He just released a new one, though, Conditions of my Parole... and it's pretty amazing.

Super diverse. Elements of both Tool and APC, but very much its own thing.

This is my favorite song from the new album: Man Overboard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0XmJvmB0l0)

A much softer, gentler tune, but also incredible... Horizons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ9N0sw2Few)

The closest thing to a Tool song on the album (one of the only songs with a rock instrumentation, and longer than the rest of the songs): The Rapture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcrQIqAKhxY&feature=related)

The one thing I will say is that, if you're looking for Tool, this is not the place to look. It's not progressive metal... really don't know how to describe it, but it's definitely freaking awesome.

I'm a pretty big fan of Josh Eustis and he's worked with Maynard on a lot of that stuff. I've been meaning to check it out.

I liked the debut well enough but keep forgetting there was a second album. I should grab that at some point.

Got 3 songs into it and was bored the entire time so I turned it off. Really disappointing after the mostly solid debut.

Maybe it's cause you didn't get to Man Overboard, Horizons, The Rapture, or Tumbleweed. Though Green Valley is a pretty decent song... definitely took me a few listens to the entire album before I started to appreciate it.

I'll definitely give the whole thing a proper listen sometime soon, but the fact that it opened with 3 weak songs in a row when the debut didn't really have 3 weak songs on it is kind of a bad sign.

I think I need to give V for Vagina another chance. I don't remember liking it, but when I just looked it up, Indigo Children and Queen B sparked positive memories.

The Taliban has changed this thread tools. reminds me of someone else (Puscifer)? SA, fundamentally Maynard's solo project. Their first album, in the type part of the vagina.
