That's great news :), also, why am I not surpsised that

"That song literally went up and down in relation to how it was doing next to the other songs as the record went forward," frontman Dexter Holland says. "It was probably the first song we started working on and just about the last song that we finished. We really kept coming back to it over the course of the record."
The end result really is a billion times better than what I expected after the live versions

Finally someone says something good about the offspring. I feel like i hear way too much negative things about them.

Smash (Epitaph), which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in 1994 and has sold 6.3 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

How accurate is this?

Great article. Thanks for sharing. Also, the link wasn't working for me, nor were any others that I was trying to google. I eventually found a good link, so here it is if anyone else is having troubles.

I suspect that number refers to US domestic sales rather than international totals.

Yeah, 6 x platinum, that would be just the USA.

However, YGGFK, 1.6 million. That would be 1 x platinum, but RIAA still has it as gold. Maybe worldwide or RIAA haven't updated it yet.

Agreed! Here in Australia I can't remember when last the "journos" had something good to say about the Offspring! :( Kinda' sad but what can you do.
I just feel like AXL rose sometimes, quoting Get In The Ring to them ...

But anyhoo, great article
:D

The band has notched 16 top 10s on the Alternative chart since then

Days Go By is sitting at #11 right now. If it raises to #10, they'll be tied for fifth place (with the Smashing Pumpkins) for most top tens on the Alternative Rock chart. If they get one more besides that from this album, they'll be tied for fourth with Pearl Jam.

How many does The Offspring have?

"It's me observing that people have been going through a shitty time in the last few years, including myself," Holland says. "I just wanted to put some hope out there and say that no matter how bad it is, nobody's going to pick you up. You've got to do it yourself and there is hope and you're going to do it." -Dexter

great quote :D
Can't agree anymore with that. Too many ppl sit around sad lonely depressed or whatever wallowing in self pity or looking for sympathy etc... But you've got to have that self power and strong willingness inside you to just SNAP OUT OF IT, go out and kick this world's ass. YOU'VE GOT TO DO IT, cause no one else will give a shit!
Remember this song: ".... there is a chain that's never broken.... same old cycle's gona start again ..." ;););)

Still #11 at the Alternative Songs chart (last week's position #12).
But I don't think anyone commented that they've raised to #9 on the Rock charts, from last week's #13.

(and #64 on Japan Hot 100)

Am I the only one who finds music charts to be arbitrary and kinda pointless? I mean, I'm happy that the Offspring does well, but... charts don't really mean that much.

This is true. Although they are useful in a way to kind of gage the current popularity of the band with the general public.

Also, kind of cool to see the band you like getting the recognition you'd probably think they deserve.

It's music video still has to be released, that'll probably up it a few places.

That's cool. I guess it'll break top 5 too.

When do we get videos? It's time! June 22 is the earliest release of the album so far. I guess they will stream it sooner because of a possible leak, 2 weeks and it's out. We are very close.
