Do you mean it's a movie made by the offspring, or a movie just randomly called the offspring? Because that is offspring writing..

I think the movie was already made before the band even started

Nope, that's movie writing. The band 'Offspring' actually stole it from the movie 'Offspring'. The movie was made in early 80's wasn't it?

So, there was a movie called 'the Offspring'. (Nothing to do with the band).
The band changed their name from 'Manic Subsidal' to 'the Offspring' and used the font the movie used for their own.

"The Offspring" was made in 1987. It was one of Vincent Price's last movies.

That movie's as old as me. I think they used the rippy thing too.

Yes, Tijs is right! This cheap horror b-movie influenced the band choosing their name. They even called their first EP "Born to kill" (that was the one with Blackball, which came out right before the self titled album), just like the subtitle of the movie.
The other reason for chosing the bandname was that they thought it would be funny to be "The Offspring" of "The Descendents" (which was one of their idols during that time).
