First I didn't take it seriously and couldn't stand listen to it (8 min). But some weeks ago, I listned to Americana and noticed that both Americana and Pay The Man are awsome songs! Pay The Man has to be my favourite on that album now. It's just so incredible heavy to be Offspring and so amazing if you just close your eyes and enjoy. What do you think about it?

I know what you mean, at first I couldnt listen to Americana cause the intro to it was kind of long, and my attention span is short. I did listen to Pay The Man, cause I liked the whole calming feel of it. Eventually I got bored and listened to all of Americana, which is now one of my favorites lol.

I love it because the intro is so long and all the tention is bulding up...Then when the bass comes in it becomes so heavy. After a while that kinda "spooky" vocals come and you become more exited, finally all the tention is released when that "yaou!" scream comes.

I'm sure that this is exactly what happened to 90% of all the Offspring fans. In fact, I haven't heard anyone saying that he liked Pay The Man from the beginning. I hated it, too, then the first thing I stared liking was the heavy part before singing (after 3 minutes or something). But it took me at least a month before I liked the whole songs. Today I would classify this song as one of theit best ones ever made!

I don't know if anyone else has said this yet because this is as far down as I've read so far, but they played it on an Ixnay(or similar) tours, before it had been released, and everyone was like wtf?(I can't type it because I'll get chucked off the system), and they didn't really understand or like it, so I think they've avoided playing it since...!

That's a good reason. But I don't think people would like it so much at a concert. You don't want that slow songs if you see them live.

Because I was at school. The school computers have a systemy sensory thingy when if you type fuck or shit or any type of swear word of rude word whatsoever it registers it, and you get banned from the computers :(

Yeah that's true- it's more of a 'laying there chilling, just relaxing and listening to it' song. You want stuff to jump to at a concert!

I know!! Loads of websites are non-accessable, and they can tell if you're on porn and stuff...sometimes in lessons the teacher does this thing where they can see everyone in the class's screens, so they know what they're up to! Then they can go onto their screen and close stuff, or write things e.t.c. It's pretty weird when your pointer starts rebelling against you....you have to kinda fight against the teacher...lol

I always listened to the whole song, and I always liked it. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't listen to a song just because it starts off slow (americana and pay the man).
However, I don't believe Pay the Man is as good as the Decline.

It is probably the best written song by the Offspring because it is so different and it has a variety of moods and feelings throughout it. I'd hate to compare it to one of the greatest bands of all time, but it almost sounds like something Pink Floyd would do.

It's one of those songs that turn me off in the beginning, but then when I actually sit down and listen to it, it blows me away. It's long, sure, but it's worth it to listen to it until the end.

I'm glad they made a long song. I'm fed up with this country (America) having the attention span of a goldfish! We needed something like Pay the Man to show us that long doesn't neccesarily mean boring.
