It requires Windows Media Player and has been tested on both Windows XP and MacOS X.

Admin: Is there a reason why the radio thing seems to play 'Hit That' more than any other song?! It seems random but then I keep getting Hit That!

Damn singles...

They want people to buy Splinter. Damn, seems like I'll have to download Windows Media Player if I want to try that radio.

You're blind. Look where there's the 'The Offspring', it's at the right of the 'sign up to the mailing list'

It is completely random.

Regarding the thing not showing up, you may have to clear your cache if you visit the site often.

When I click on Offspring radio and Windows Media Player comes up, it says "Selected file has an extension that is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the Player may still be able to play it. Do you want the player to try to play the file?" Then I click YES, then it says "Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file." I have Windows 98. What do I do?

Nah; it's not! Try it out if you don't believe me - call me a cynic but i see that the playlist is located on a Sony site (or something) and i reckon that it's set to play much more from Splinter than any other album so that people go out and buy it (i already have it).

I've certainly been getting more songs from Splinter than anything else (and esp. that damn Hit That!).

You are welcome to remain cynical, but you will continue to be wrong.

Have you actually tried listening to it?!

Ok I just listened to 10 songs; 7 were on the Sony owned records! That's 70%, if it was truly random there would only be a 56% (approx) chance of a sony owned song!

Don't get me wrong here though; i don't think that this was intentional from the band/website's point of view, because obviously they arranged this 'radio' service and also there was the whole issue with allowing songs to be downloaded. I think the big record labels are responsible.

Look... I wrote the playlist creating software myself.

It is random. It uses a random number to sort the tracks.

You have to listen long enough for the sample to be statistically valid. 10 songs isn't even close to long enough. Each track appears once on the random ordered list.

administrator_old
03-30-2005, 05:35 PM
BTW, the playlist doesn't come from Sony.

Sony sourced tracks are hosted there, that's it.

Noodles is gay
03-30-2005, 05:38 PM
^ Yeah, i noticed that now (i just don't particularly like Sony!)

Oh wow! You are a human, using human language there! Cool.

Damn i forgot about it needing to be statistically valid :p (too late at night, methinks)

Ah, i'll trust you then! Oh yeah i reckon the radio thing is really cool because it has all the CDs without me having to clog up my hard drive to get a 'random' playlist. Well done, i like! :D

Oh yeah; that poll looks awesome! Did you guys actually talk to Dexter about that? Because tis cool that the band (other than noodles) have noticed the legions of fans here!

The band commissioned the poll.

cooool! :D That's pretty awesome!

Oh btw; is there any chance you could change my vote to 'the kids aren't alright' please? Any chance at all?

I'm dumb, i clicked to vote for TKAA but then saw it was multiple choice after clicking 'vote' and so clicked the meaning of life at the last minute. But then it put me down for that rather than TKAA. :(

And yes; i do realize that this looks like i'm taking the piss.

There's something weird about the poll. There's a song in the poll called 'Get Ready', but it doesn't exist.

Afterall, there are 180 chocies. (90 not including Huck It or Kill The President) Multiply that by itself to account for repeating and you have an awsome experiance. Although I do find it wierd that the same song will be played twice, that is why there is a skip function.

the radio is amazing i listen to the radio in class all the time. what you do is open the link and starts on up on you windows media or what ever in mac. what it does is just play all the offspring songs that they have on there CD's. but the bad part is its not in order so one playlist has like random songs and you can see whats on the play list either. lots of fun lots

No computerized version of randomness is utterly random. Ev'ryone but the lame man... sorry the layman knows that. Why, even I do!

For the purposes of randomizing the playlist, it is close enough.

This site runs on WebObjects (the main part, not the forums), which is an Apple technology.

We test it in Safari, Firefox and IE/Win.

It probably doesn't work well in IE/Mac or NN. Sorry dudes.

not so, the center column of CA rule 30 has been repeatedly proven to be as random as the digits of pi, the digits of e, a feedback loop of cosmic ray noise, or spontaneous decay of excited electrons. also, the works of godel and chaitin have proven beyond any doubt that randomness exists in the most pure systems provided they are at least complex enough to allow self-referentiality.

It was an option on the "Dexter on Song" poll, and it didn't seem to be a song.
