From what I recall, obviously I could google the info to check but I'm not gonna, is that the keyboard had to do with how typewriters worked?

People have made another keyboard design that makes sense depending on how often letters are typed and how easy they are to type, etc. so people would be able to type more efficiently, but they haven't really caught on since people are used to the old ones.

renegade, you do realize that bill gates is hardly a programmer, he's a businessman. he did not write ms-dos, he bought it and then licensed it to ibm. he's more of a software architect than a programmer, he just lays out some vague blueprints and lets real programmers do all the real work.

The computer keyboard is designed basicly like a typewriter, just that the computer keyboard has different features.

I'm going to get myself a Dvorak keyboard one day...

I've never tried a manual type writer and typing to see if I can jam the keys or not, it would be interesting to see if I could type quickly enough or not.

Though I must add, sometimes windows can make you wish we still used dos.

that what your average programmer looked like in the 70's. haven't you ever seen a picture of RMS?

you know, there are other operating systems that don't have issues like that.

I should get one of those - I still type with 2 index fingers and my left thumb for the space :o

I have a bizarre unexplained love for typing. I could probably be semi-content being a secretary and having to type things up for people.

I think the logic is that the keys you use most is in the middle....That's what I've heard atleast. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a swedish guy invented the mouse. And you can't complain about that incredible thing. (what do you say, two computer...mice? or mouses?)

Just some dipshit who felt like mauling the alphabet to his will. Amazingly, people caught on to some crazy bastards idea and non comprehension of the alphabet. I have no clue why someone did something so goddamned stupid, but it happened, so get over it.
