View Full Version : One song missing in Dexter On Song poll

04-11-2005, 12:40 PM
It came to my mind when voting in the "Dexter On Song" poll about wich song i'd like him to write about, i realized loads of people wanna hear about Lightening Rod and Crossroads so to support a classic, i put my vote on Crossroads.

But what i'd really like to hear about would be what was in Dexter's mind when he wrote Kill The President, one of their best songs if you ask me, and what is in his mind nowadays about that song. He seems to be a Bush supporter and has removed that track from the re-release of the Self Titled album.

I thought to check how many votes Kill The President actually would have gotten in the poll but realized that it simply aint there.
How many of you guys would have voted for it?
Seems strange to me, as they have even added simple covers to the poll such as Hey Joe.
Personally i think it's a real crappy attitude to leave such a song out without even mentioning it.
It seems like Dexter obviously ignores that song the best he can.
What's up, afraid of the Punk roots? :p

Good call, but wrong section of the forum! I hope the Admin sees this anyway and offers you some help. Take care.

He might not have been able to add it, as the song isn't allowed on any new versions of the self-titled album.

Yeah, that just might be it.
But truth is that the re-release of Self Titled is on Nitro Records, and Dexter happens to be running that record label as he owns it.
I think there are some connections here, after all he's got at least something to say about it.
Shouldent he have the control of deciding what should and should not be on the records and the official site?
I think so at least, and i still stand by with the opinion that it's a very shitty attitude towards the fans... what a point in voting...

pity its the second best song on the album tehran/baghdad is first. but how can he be a bush supporter? they were on the rock against bush album! :o

Yes they were, but Dexter was all the time insecure about it as he actually voted for Bush in the first place.

there wasn't 'kill the president' in self titled soundtrack on a previous offical site too.... It's interesting why...

I'd be interested in hearing what Dexter had to say politically.

Don't know if he would though.

04-11-2005, 01:59 PM
well...it isnt on any albums anymore...so i guess tht might be why...they removed it cause it might have been found offensive

04-11-2005, 02:32 PM
Yes, it's not like you were first of understanding that really.
In most cases, wanting to kill someone has a tendence to be found offensive to others at times, especially if you're a conservative and it's about your president, then yes, i think you might have a point there. :)

But that is a bit of the point i wanna make, as The Offspring still tries to come across as a Punk Rock band, i would really like to know the reasons of removing the perhaps most rebellious track they have ever written... infact i'd like to hear a bit of why you vote extreme right wing conservative too if you're in a Punk band... i guess those are simply the reasons why i would have liked to vote for Kill The President at the poll in the first place.

And last but maybe not least, it's a damn good song, why does it have to be ignored?

I like Kill the President yeah i probably would've voted for it. Cool song. Gay losers had to remove it from their album....*mumble angrily*

Is there any way to actually contact Dexter or anyone who's in contact with him, by internet by the way?
I mean... it would be interesting to know why they so totally want to forget about that certain song.
Or it's just typically American Democracy... freedom to vote for anything as long it's one of the choises directly handed to you... who knows?

no, he doesn't give out his email (for obvious reasons!). However if you really wanted to know maybe you could PM the admin and they DO have contact with the band or may be able to answer your question.

That could be an idea, maybe i should do so when i've got time.
Thanks dude, i'll let ya know if i'd get something out of em.

can't you get arrested for saying you're gonna kill the president?

can't you get arrested for saying you're gonna kill the president?

depends on the circumstances. That could be fun...

It's like the phrase "i have a bomb", never say that to an american in an airport! :D

Dexter doesn't like talking about his political views, so he may have in fact asked for it purposely to be left out of the poll for fear that it would win. I also would like to hear him talk about it, and the reasons he wrote it, etc. etc.

Though it is a possibility it was left out accidentally, however small that is. It's not like they could remember all those songs off by heart when adding them to the poll. They might've just grabbed loose copies of the albums, copied down all the tracks off the back, and got a list of B-sides of the net or something bizarre like this. You never know.

If Kill The President had been in the poll however, I'd have voted for it.
