If you could ensure that your children never have one experience that you have had, what would it be?

Bad teachers, low self-esteem, rape, substance abuse. (not based on my experience)

And I'm worried I'll be VERY strict as a mother.

I'm worried i will be strict as a father - I wish I could start treating my little brother a bit better, and be a proper big brother to him

obviously i wouldn't want my kids to go through really nasty stuff. i'm also really scared about being a possessive mother. i hate possessive mums. looking after your kids is fine, stopping them from doing stuff and wanting them to do everything for you is not fine. gah.

It sounds as if I want to. I seriously don't...I was trying to say that i have my life ahead of me and that anything could happen.

You will be.

No bad teachers for me, too. Also having to work through college.

I know I won't always be able to prevent anything bad from happening to my future kids. I'm that realistic by now. & I think even (some) bad experiences can be good. nothing teaches you as well, as a nice practical lesson. this of course doesn't go for terrible, terrible experiences. my god, no.

I would never want my child to be degraded in any way.
I would never want my child to be mutilated (like by a fire, for instance) in any way.
I would never want my child to have to grow up without his/her mother.
I don't ever want to become an overprotective mother. a kid's got to live to know what life's like & to know what it's like to actually live it. to prepare itself to live on it's own. to actually grow up & become mature. I'd never want to take that chance away from my child, no matter how much I worry. I'll always try to prevent the worst things from happening & I'll always stick by my child & support it, but I'll try my best to let it spread it's wings for a test-drive. I'll be there to catch it.

I would not want them to feel completely alone in the world. Or bullied. Or feel down about themselves all the time.
