Aaah. DON'T drink if you're upset after a breakup. It makes things a lot, lot, lot worse.

If you don't want to be alone, surround yourself with friends and/or family. See relatives you haven't seen for a while. You don't have to go out to the pubs and clubs, just sit and have days with people you wouldn't normally see very often. If you want to be alone to wallow, you can. You're allowed time to grieve. Watch old movies of you both if it'll help, and if you have any. Look at old photos. Conversely, if it'll help, burn them. It really can help!

Try to fill your time up as best you can. Take up a new hobby. Martial arts I've heard is a great one for controlling emotion - yoga, too. Essentially, just keep your mind busy.

And cheer up. You won't be down for ever. :)

People with the ability to catch spaces between two parts of a user name.

Yeah, that works too. I did that after I broke up with my last boyfriend. It helped me cry, wich is one of my biggest problems when im depressed, i never express my feelings, i just let them pile up until i explode. "Denial" will help ya deal with that if ya need to.

You know somebody said "If a girl asks why anybody would go out with a certian man, that means she is inlove with him."

Indifference throughout the entire course of the relationship is ultimately the solution to better breakups.

Indeed! I mean, what could it possibly not solve! It is the only thing of value worth getting from a potential partner.

How do you make one of the worst feelings go away...or at least ease it a bunch?Play an instrument and write a song about how happy you are that your date left you because she's a slut who doesn't deserve you! :D

Find out everything bad about the girl and make yourself feel bad for going out with her in the first place. That's probably easier to get over.

The best way to make it go away quicker is to let your feelings out.

Denial doesn't really help because it bites you in the arse sooner or later. And alcohol gives you even less control over your feelings so if you get too worked up about it you can't control your actions too well.

Booze, lots and lots of booze...
that's a terrible way to get over things. you don't know what you're talking about.

what I most of the times do now to get over stuff, is just let it sink in, analyze it a little, try to understand what's going on & why, cry a little, then move on. I don't let anything stop my life again, like things once did. I have to go on, I have to keep breathing, keep going, keep moving, keep walking.. music sometimes helps, a good scream sometimes helps, a good cry sometimes helps, a good long walk sometimes helps... & I talk about things if I need to. it's nice if others support me, but I don't expect anyone to. I'll always be the one anyway, who has to figure out my own shit.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I honestly thought I wouldn't get any comfort from making this thread and I'm shocked to see I wasn't totally made fun of in each response. I'm going to try to use some of your comments to help ease the pain. I know its ultimately "time" that will cure it but sometimes it feels like time is just to damn slow.

JoY
04-19-2005, 02:18 AM
it's not time that is slow. that's the problem. it's mostly *you* (not particularly you, but any person) that is slow. you don't just step over emotions, like there's nothing wrong. they can get in your way & you've got to make sure they don't. don't let them get in your way, deal with them first & then you'll see you're a lot stronger than you think you are.

Alcohol is a depressant and in turn is worse for you.

Thank you JoY, I never thought about it like that...I will try and stand up to my emotions and not let them get in my way.
