I've got it and it's anything but better than IE. I still use it though. But IE has it down. Some geek will no doubt point out to www.w3.org or whatever it is and say it complies to standards. But who cares. I want everything to work in it and it doesn't

Better than crappy Internet Explorer

The thing about the FireFox Browser is that is faster, has a simple design and the most important, it has a pop-up blocker , and it helps you with Spyware, which IE doesn't.
Thanks to IE, my computer had several problems because of spyware.
Ohh yeah, Internet Explorer sucks.

JohnnyNemesis

IE is pure and utter trash. Firefox is infinitely better. The options alone blow everything else out the water.

RXP
04-29-2005, 09:33 AM
It's not fucking faster. IE is inbuilt into WinXP or whatever Windows. It's in the RAM so it loads quicker. It also renders faster. Stop lying.

Sunny
04-29-2005, 09:37 AM
IE also works on macs, you know. And it's definitely not built into OSX.

And it's a slow little gimpy bitch.

PS. All applications are "in the RAM" when you run them, if I remember correctly. There's nothing *built* into the RAM, cuz RAM is a blank slate every time you turn on your computer. ^^;;

RXP
04-29-2005, 09:39 AM
Hahahahahah.

I was talking of Windows. A lot of IE's DLL's or whatever it needs to use are part of Windows so already loaded into RAM. So they don't need to be loaded into it again when IE is loaded. It's an unfair advantage but hey.

And I wasn't talking MacOS. I was talking Windows. Besdies, Macs are shit.

it's also built on bsd, which makes it better by default.

IE is typically faster loading. it's a tossup on render speeds--sometimes ie's faster, sometimes firefox.

other than being able to render incorrectly coded pages and having slightly faster load times, what advantages are there to using ie?

RXP

That's a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny porition of the entire computing market. For the majority of us a Windows based PC is far superior for our everyday needs and even those of us more geeky people.

Other than something that is a HUGE advantage you mean? It does render pages faster, at least in my expeerience and from what I've seen of the bench marks.

IE works brilliantly with ActiveX too.

there are very few pages that are so poorly coded that they won't render at least enough to get all the content in firefox.

as for activex, i don't think i've ever used it or run into a situation where i needed it for something.

tiny, yet omnipresent. most of the graphic design work you see around (magazines, billboards, flyers, brochures, posters, etc) was most likely made on a Mac.

Sure, the PC might be "far superior" for "everyday needs" such as typing, checking your email, powerpoint presentations and wacking off to porn. Hell, they're half the price of a cheap Mac. But when it comes to specialized professional need, especially in the field of visual media, Macs are the preferred brand.

Therefore I find your statement "macs = shit" to be somewhat ignorant.

RXP

I suppose I like the tabs in firefox. It's the only thing I REALLY notice. On my computer I can't notice any speed-related issues. The pop up blocker ends up screwing me over on some sites, but it's pretty easy to change that and allow the pop ups.

Think IE is unsecure?

was security mentioned even once?

does the track record of IE's security need to be brought up?

did you even bother to read the article, which is basically saying that bugs in open source software are less of a problem than in proprietary software? that article is *supporting* firefox.

RXP
04-29-2005, 01:03 PM
Firefox is never tested properly. I know the point of the article. The fact of hte matter is when that firm tested it they found bugs. IE is hammered from every single angle so obviously it's gonna show security flaws. Firefox just hasn't been tested the same. When it does, we'll see the bugs emerge from that.

The argument you can look at the code is stupid. Who looks at code? Which lay user? Heck even hardcore users don't.

Firefox just isn't superior to IE in anyway whatsoever. If you're using Windows it's better to use I.E. The reason I use firefox is gay cause I can't be arsed to transfer my favs. Also it has the most stupid bugs. Although I was using 0.8 and just upgraded. So we'll see.

Endymion
04-29-2005, 01:11 PM
native tabs and selective window blocking is more than enough of a reason to use it. security flaws can be found much more easily through code review, as has been done by various firms (mostly european).

you can export bookmarks easily enough, and since firefox is so much more insecure, you'd be better off using IE.

If you really want an ie based browser for Windows why not http://www.maxthon.com/ ?

The only prolem with Firefox on mac that annoys me is the scroll rate it's about 3x too fast when using a scroll wheel, it's not very smooth. I use Safari mostly anyway.

i have to say the only problem i ever had with ie was the whole spyware adware crap that got in through it. other than that it was fine, but it appears even that is being worked on or fixed now. ive since then tho used firefox and been happy with it, and glad to say NO problems at all :p so ie doesnt fucking suck, but its not as good as firefox imo.

I get the impression alot of kids and people use firefox just because it looks more sophisticated and shit like that.

I've used it for a lengthy amount of time, and with plug ins was literally able to kill adverts built into a site, and all that shite. Which was useful. But it was to much hassle and blocking pop ups became some sort of mini habit, and I never before cared much about adverts anyway.

Also, I don't know if you can change this - but the way it loads things is ugly and takes longer for me, pictures espically. There resize and go all random before they have loaded, where as internet explorer only shows what its loaded properly. It just reminded me of my old dreamcast browser. Seemed like a step back!

All I need internet explorer is for browsing basically. I don't want all these advanced features that take a day to set up when I get on just fine with my minimalistic IE6 approach. Besides if you get adware fullstop, your a cretin, because the amount of amazing free immune systems and scanners you can get these days are top notch and do the job. I know this is true because my brother had a lovely knack of downloading random MP3 programs chock-a-block with spyware. You only get spyware if your looking for dodgy shit or on weird pages, 9 times out of ten!

But on another note, the firefox logo is great, plus fox's are great. Not sure about ones on fire though.

So its simplicity and universal use (you know IE is always gonna work) verse this new, sophisticated "1337" shit with bells and whistle's styling.

For now, I stick with my simple IE6.

Oh, internet explorer gave me SO MUCh spyware and viruses back in the day when I used it. It came to the point where it became impossible to get rid of it all using every spyware/virus protection program ever made. I had to reformat my hardrive so I could get rid of it The majority of spyware and viruses are design to hit people with IE making it extremely vulnerable because IE's Active X. Ignoring EI's security flaws, Mozila's features are still far superiour to EI's features. First of all, tab browsing is the shit. It's impossible to back to IE once you try to tab browsing. The "copy link location" and "copy image location" in the right click is also extremly usefull. I could go on and on but I don't feel like it at the moment.

That's the thing, I'm sure I didn't do anything. I'm extremly carefull when surfing the web. Maybe it was my dad, mom, or brother. There's a possible chance that my brother was going through some porn sites and installed one of "free porn toolbars" when he saw one those messeges pop out. This is probably where it all got started. If we had firefox back then, that proably would have never happened.
