View Full Version : My new song 'Code Blue'

05-06-2005, 03:49 PM
I put this together in a few hours with only my PC (so I did it myself, but i put it on my bands site), my guitar/amp and fruityloops and cool edit pro.

It's kind of a slower rock song. a few solos. a few really good rhythm bits, which are hard to hear coz of my shit setup.

The first minute is boring, (needs some vocals, or a good lead guitar part), but after that it kinda picks up with a few solish parts.

The drum parts are pretty reasonable, for loops anyway.

I probably spent the most time re-recording the very final solo, even though its only short I didn't think it sounded very interesting (i still don't think it's that good).

This is an early verson of the final song. I'm still tossing up the idea of getting a vocalist to help me out with some lyrics. It would be cool to make it one of those songs that has like 7 lines of vocals and the rest guitar. But thats a long way away.

I think the qualitys pretty good, considering its drum loops (good quality but kind of 'septic') and a computer mike shoved infront of my amp (the amps line out sounds ****e without a DI box.

Here's the link to listen/download Code Blue:

and no, I have no idea why i called it code blue...

How did you record it? the drums are from a drum computer right? The hi-hat is too digital, but doesn't matter.

I like it =) guitars sound nice, what amp do you have?

05-08-2005, 01:35 AM
shoved a PC mic infront of my Hughes & Kettner 60 Watt Amp. The drums are from a program called fruity loops, which lets you make your own loops.

rythm guitar sounds quite cool. The lead bit is quite boring. Solos are simple, and the 2nd one needs recorded again; the tremelo picking needs worked on. But it's got character. Keep working on it.

I think its really good, especially considering the drums were done on the PC and stuff. Nice work ;)

I really like it. Guitars sound great. Reminds me of that riff in Race against myself.

It sounds too much like race against myself at the beginning, it is great though. Especially the second solo.

What about alternate picking, it sounds good.

cool, i really like it but is a bit repetitive isn't it?

cool, i really like it but is a bit repetitive isn't it?

in what way? I'm not trying to start shit, but I would like you to explain a bit. The whole idea of the thread is that i get constructive criticism.

And if you mean certain guitar parts are re-used, thats because there are set verses/choruses that are meant to have vocals with them.

the website is up now. excpect some new demos soon, after i get my rp80

05-11-2005, 07:25 PM
the tremelo picking needs worked on.
what was wrong with the tremelo picking?
The song was good. I have absolutely no song writting skills so I don't know how people do it. How long did it take you to write this?

05-11-2005, 08:17 PM
I like it. Put some words to it.

How long did it take you to write this?

Wrote the basic parts (chorus/intro, verse, 1st solo, soly rhythm) ages ago when I was planning to play it with a real drummer. It was arranged in a completely different way than it turned out. It was just like a typical intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/chorus until I thought 'fuck it, I'm gunna try record this myself'. So the two end solos were done on the night i recorded it. The fist solo I kinda fucked up in one spot but kinda made it sound intentional. The second solo took about 50 takes and it still sounds only 70% of what it could be.

BTW, are you planning on using the rp80 for just recording or for just playing with your amp?

BTW, are you planning on using the rp80 for just recording or for just playing with your amp?

both. I will try out using the RP80 for recording.

i just spent two hours re-doing this song, with a whammy pedal solo and more, but only seconds (literally seconds) from completion, my pc crashed.

and i was like.....

I completed the song today. Changed a few bits. http://www.purevolume.com/carefactorzero

Note: The new one is called Untitled Instrumental, the old one is called Uncomplete Instrumental, just so you don't get confused.

That was some good stuff. I like the changes you made and you made good use of your rp80. Was everything recorded using the rp80? Did you record directly into your computer or did you used a microphone. Did you use that global amp modeling feature?

05-13-2005, 11:18 PM
everything was recorded with the rp80 directly into the computer via the rp's line out.

I think you mean Global Cabinet Modelling? I didn't use it.

Edit: for those who are interested, I used Cool Edit Pro.

05-13-2005, 11:22 PM
I think you mean Global Cabinet Modelling? I didn't use it.

Yeah that was what I meant. I tend to like that feature for leads because it smoothens out the tone but your tone still sounded great.
What were your settings?

05-13-2005, 11:26 PM
You mean did I change the settings on the presets? No. If you mean guitar settings, um bridge pup, full volume. EDIT: with the expression pedal to the floor, if that helps.

The quality is more than good enough for me as it is. If I ever get into a band we would re record it obviously.

05-13-2005, 11:28 PM
I mean what settings did you use on the rp? If you used a preset, which one?

05-14-2005, 12:24 AM
Metal Scoop #24 for rhythm/solos
Volume Swell #20 For Interlude
and I think Stacked #1 for the first solo.

05-14-2005, 11:23 AM
Thats really good. Is this a digitech RP80 your talking about? Nice use of it, also was it hard to make drum loops?

Oh and does your guitar have hum buckers or single coils? And what "number" is that distortion you use because I have a RP80 and that sounds godly. :)

05-14-2005, 11:26 AM
Ohhh just read what presets you used, nice - very good, how long you been playing?

05-14-2005, 11:39 AM
No chances of you tabbing that solo is there? I worked out how to play the rhythum, its all around like -

- 6 6 6 6 6 6--8--6-6-6-4-4-4--4----
- 6 6 6 6 6 6--6--4-4-4-2-2-2--4----
- 4 4 4 4 4 4 ------------------2----

With palm mutes and so on inbetween etc. Damn thats scruffy but sorta right.. right? :D

05-14-2005, 04:09 PM
the drum loops were made with a program called fruityloops 4. i have hardly any experience with fruityloops so i make the loop in fruityloops then arrange it all in cool edit pro, then lay down the rhythm track, then the verse track, solo, solo2, solo3 and hey presto.

The tab you posted is close enough.

This is how I play it,

SOLO 1 (play this a different way now but it sounds the same.)

SOLO 1 (cont…)
G|----- 11-----11----11----11-----11---|

The other solo was improv so I gotta type it out (cause I need a copy too :)

I've been playing for about 3 yrs, only seriously for about 2 yrs. I work at my own pace, no lessons a part from school band.

EDIT: I posted the chorus but It keeps fucking up, so I'll post it later. and from the first solo onwards, the rhythm is different, but its pretty easy to figure out.

Thanks for that dude, I made something today with my rp80 and built in drums haha, its not bad though, considering.

If you have MSN wanna chat/share stuff?
