Turned out we won't be playing on that festival after all, because our rhytm guitarist is busy then . Oh well, at least wenow have a contact with the man who organises some local festivals and club shows, so we have an opportunity to arrange a gig for later.

I was just rehearsing one of our new songs, and came up with some new ideas for it. I got some great guitar licks (almost Iron Maiden-esque) which would really fit, and i've also come up with an idea for the song's ending. If the ending would indeed be something like this, it would without a doubt be the most agressive thing we've ever done, by far. Hint: one of the song's previous riffs played in 1/16 palm-muted notes with complex strumming patterns. Sounds like thrash metal ending for an overall punk rock song

Looks like we might get to play at some local alternative music festival. I got in touch with the man who's organising it, and he said it could be arranged. We have to send some of our songs for them to hear first, so i've tried to re-master our old demos today. And i've nailed it this time, they sound much better. Original versions had some annoying hissing - i guess i overdid things when i tried to make the songs sound more crisp, and boosted higher frequencies too much. So today i cut the higher frequencies a bit, and the result was awesome. Almost no more hissing, and because i cut those frequencies it also lowered some waveform peaks and i could turn the songs up a bit, so they're still very dynamic, but also a bit louder. Maybe i'll made them available for download

That's not the "secret news" though

edit: Just found out Golliwog are playing on the Punk Rock Holiday festival too (one of the opening acts for NOFX). Awesome!

Yeah, those were recorded by my mobile phone, so i don't think they'll be worth much. But i got an idea from them, maybe i'll record a proper Nutshell cover... We'll see.

Yes, i'm doing the bridge of "Struggle", as well as half of the verses, and backing vocals during the chorus. I've improved a lot since the time when we recorded those 3 songs, and i'm singing my parts much better now. And "Struggle" might get renamed. You see, we kind of have too much songs that start with an S

About the news - you'll know what i meant as soon as it's done

Good to hear about The SRIs being more active, too. Some new songs or gigs planned? I'm arranging a gig in some club for us, i'll talk to the club owner tomorrow. I hope it goes as planned. That's not the news though

Ha, i tried to sing along Rotten Apple and Nutshell (from Jar Of Flies), and record the results. What surprised me the most was not that i actually could sing them well, but rather that i sounded a lot like Layne Staley. Not the same of course, his voice just can't be replicated, but still, pretty close.

Oh, and now The Redestructed news. Something's in the works (well, for now more in the talks). Nothing major, but it might please our fans. And that's all i'm telling ya...

Buying this (i'm talking about Jar Of Flies/Sap, of course) on vinyl was my best decision so far, regarding buying music. I wanted to get the CD version at first, but having this on vinyl is just special.

If you haven't checked it out yet, then just do it. At least Jar Of Flies. That mini-album was written and recorded in just 7 days, the band just wanted to get in the studio with their acoustic guitars and see what happens. It was completely spontaneous decision (and it really shows), and they didn't even intend to release any of the music that would be made. But the record label heard it, they really liked the material, and it got released. Good call! Black Gives Way to Blue might be my favorite album ever (it's not that i would say it's better than classic AiC material, it's just that i listen to it more than any other album i own), but Jar Of Flies contains AiC's best material, without a doubt. It's short, but i can easily put it above Dirt.

Oh, and about that Beatles record... I think some friend gave it to my mum during her high school or maybe college years. It's amazing, i mean for a record that is nearly 50 years old it's not in a bad shape. Sure it has some scratches, but i think it would still be playable (and listenable)

I'd absolutely love to get that old-timey (as you say) gramophone! But i'll be probably getting just a modern record player. Actually, i already have an old radio (big, boxy radio, i think it must be somewhat around 40 years old), and it also has integrated record player in it. It's broken thoughand only mono anyway (i think). I was thinking about getting a new record player and putting it into the old radio, so it would look more old-school

Oh, i forgot to mention, Josh Homme isn't with Kyuss anymore, hence they're now calling themselves "Kyuss Lives!". He does support the project though (he told Oliveri to go for it and have fun, they're friends again), he has stated he was stoked about hearing that basically all of their European shows got sold out. I think i was kind of lucky to get the tickets for show in Budapest, and it was unbelievable (the set was nearly 2 hours long!). The supporting bands were great, too.

Tell your drummer he has a great taste in music

I forgot one more that my mum has:

-Lynyrd Skynyrd: Second Helping. I bought that vinyl for my mum's birthday, she's a big fan (it's a re-release though), but i'll borrow it from time to time. Plain good, classic rock. I like the original band, but the post-crash version of the band is just not the same, and i just don't like their new agenda (or songs for that matter). Too bad that confederate flag stains them, though that was the record label's fault (the label apparently wanted some gimmick). Ronnie (the original singer) said it was bad enough for them to be portrayed as rednecks, let alone racists because of the flag... Anyway, gotta love Simple Man, Free Bird and Tuesday's Gone, tough sadly they're not on this album.

Goddamnit, i can't wait to get a gramophone. Now i have a few vinyls in my collection to listen to:

-Kyuss: Blues for the Red Sun (a 2010 repressing, 180 gram). Probably the most important album in history of stoner rock (and it features Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri from QOTSA). By the way, i've seen Kyuss live this march

-AiC: Jar of Flies/Sap double LP. Two of their (largely) acoustic EPs released together. Not sure if it's limited edition or not, but i don't give a fuck. Jar of Flies alone is a masterpiece.

-The Beatles: No.1 EP - original pressing from 1963!!! Found it in some box at home, lucky me

Oh, and i've changed AiC's status into being my favorite band, period. I've even put them above Nirvana, and i'm a Nirvana maniac. Never thought this would happen

edit: ha, just realised i've told you many of these things before
  10. i can't believe you forgot Jimmy's name!

About randman21
Everybody to the limit.Truck driver. Musician. Punk Rock enthusiast. Activist. Peerless lover. Fearless fighter. Haver of Y Chromosomes. ------Randy was born into humble beginnings on the planet of Mars. His father and ancestors before him worked in the mines of the nearby moon, Phobos. Randman knew this was not the destiny that stood before him. When he turned 9 years old, the Martian equivalent to 18 Earth years, he decided to leave his home planet and venture to a planet where he could express his artistic imagination: Earth.Upon arrival, however, his talent was met with little attention. After several attempts and eventual failure, he was on his last stretch of hope. If he didn't make a name for himself, it was off back to Mars and the mines. After an epic show at a local club, a small, unknown band took notice of his talent and asked him to sing for their band. They were The SRIs, featuring drummer Josh Freese, Guitarist Jesus Christ and Bassist Chuck Norris. After 3 short practices, they began recording their debut album. The album, This Album Is So Awesome, You Have No Fucking Idea was released to unsatisfactory results, only selling 4 million units in the United States. After such a failure, they buckled down for their next album. This album was Out Next Album. It was so incredible, it launched the band to superstardom. It's success could only be matched by the next five albums, Hey, Are You Still Listening, What's That Smell?, Earth Just Shit It's Pants, Try Not to Jizz Yourself, and Rise and Rise, Kiss Our Ass. With quintuple diamond certifications for all seven of their albums, The SRIs can be hailed as the greatest band ever to have been conceived.--Adapted from a biography by Brian Donald Ponce, noted historian
