I just put one of these up for sale. Sorry if I'm rezzing, but for everyone who wants to know. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221230277350...84.m1555.l2649
Damn, I joined this forum a little too late. $26 seems like a steal for such an item.
Also, what's the status on the availability of these recordings? If it hasn't been done yet, I'm honestly considering buying one and creating MP3 transfers.
Well, Bankz & Blackball ripped Side A (Tehran & Crossroads) into mp3s, but the quality is kinda crappy (as you would expect from a 25 years old tape). Side B is on They Were Born to Kill. If you are planning to buy it and rip the whole tape (so that we have all 4 songs in the same quality) I won't stop you![]()
Ah, I think I have found what you're talking about. Yeah, the quality is noticeably worse than They Were Born to Kill, so I wonder about a better transfer.
Yep, the quality is quite bad. But the tape is 25 years old, so it's not surprising at all... But it would be cool to have side B ripped from the tape too.
Oh yes, that could also use an update. Jennifer Lost the War exists in decent quality, but Out on Patrol has an annoying audio glitch at the beginning. Either way, a direct transfer is probably better than a vinyl recording transferred from the original tape.
Have I mentioned that the 2 songs on They Were Born to Kill are slowed down? I edited them and changed the tempo. This is what they actually have to sound like:

Wow, you've actually got them sounding good again. Now I'm really inspired to track it down, but things like these don't pop up very often, and I assume the price won't always be that cheap.
It'd be cool if there was an official re-issue of "The Punk Rock Sessions." It was a great idea to package together all the early recordings and known demos. Though it hardly stands up today because of the poor quality transfers on most of the tracks. Since The Offspring album has since been re-issued, and more early recordings have been discovered. They should totally go the route Nirvana took with "With the Lights Out" and release a compilation of their early rarities.
