I'm reading The Wind Through the Keyhole, part of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I like it a lot so far, not a surprise really.

And last book I read was Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which I loved. It was beautifully written - "sensually" written, in someone else's more eloquent words. And I'm just a sucker for anything about suffering and unrequited love and sadness and all that shite.

Just got back from France and I blasted through some books that felt really good to blast through. These include:

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami - It's hard to say that anything is 'vintage' Murakami because he does have a great range, but while this is a great and very interesting book you just smash through it in a day and a half. It's satisfying in a strange way and I definitely enjoyed it but I don't know that I'd recommend it for anyone who doesn't like Murakami already. But it dealt with the theme of rebuilding the self ably which is always nice.

Ironweed by William Kennedy - Apparently this is also a movie as well, and also part of a series? I picked it up at Skoob Books used for 2 pounds and it was well worth it. What an amazingly written book - it's depressing and sad and cruelly tender with how it builds the shells of what these characters used to be into the stumbling wreckages that remain of their bodies. You almost feel how hard it is to be a bum, to be homeless, to kill someone and not be sure whether you regret it or not and then to be chased by the ghosts you've left behind.

The Good Terrorist by Doris Lessing - I haven't finished this one but I thoroughly expected to like it and it is woeful so far. Absolutely terrible book and I can't figure out why - there just seems to be nothing of note happening to anyone. I will soldier on though, I hope it ends up being worth it. I really wanted to like Doris Lessing's work.

Still making my way through Robert Service's Stalin because it's quite the doorstopper, but it's every bit as well-researched and written as Lenin was.

I read another but now I can't remember what it was. No matter. Time to freshen the to-read pile.

Upptäckterna som förändrade världen och människorna bakom dem by David Eliot Brody and Arnold R. Brody. The book's title sums it up.
