Now it's a classic NOFX piece, great! And I like the tempo-messing \o/.

Well, I'm glad y'all received it so well~ The drums were the hardest part; trying to keep that insane pace going for three minutes killed my shoulder....0-0

Also, I've been sick all week, and all that rattling didn't exactly help my headache....I'm thinking I'll probably wait a few days to record the other ones I've been "saving up" in my head

For all the places I never was

Alright, sorry for the long wait folks --- Steve, Allen and myself got together last night and, since then, we have put together four new tracks plus a re-recording of The Answer (to be uploaded later --- I still gotta mess with it). Enjoy (or don't~)!

    Here are the links:

Campus Crusaders for Crust = http://www.sendspace.com/file/6iotk6

Johnny White and the Columbine Kid = http://www.sendspace.com/file/qu4mb3

Spin Out and Crash = http://www.sendspace.com/file/x2u1u5

    My Depressed Bear = http://www.sendspace.com/file/0xez0f

    And the lyrics:

    Campus Crusaders for Crust

    "I don't know what I want anymore
    All I feel is lust
I can't eat these snacks anymore!
    But who can I trust?
    I want something to eat
    Maybe with lots of wheat
I'm gonna get some or bust
I'm gonna get me some crust

I'm going on down to my college dorm
Fillin' me out an entry form
Feel my hunger turning to dust
Thanks to the Campus Crusaders for Crust

    Got me a delicious treat
    Something healthy I can eat
    Won't tear my stomach up
Can I tip you a couple of bucks?
He said, "No thanks, you're guaranteed, son
To have crust of the finest breed
And if you ever need any more
    Just call on me"

    He said,
    "We've made a life decision
    This is our holy mission
To provide the best of you
With the very finest Jewish Rye.""

    My Depressed Bear

"My depressed bear lives inside the television
My depressed bear lives inside the TV
He says he's fine, but he's hollow inside
    My depressed bear is alright

My depressed bear, he's always there when I need him
He brings me up when I'm feeling blue
My depressed bear doesn't have an identity
But he's just fine with me

    He likes to wax philosophical
    His theories are improbable
    He's always thinking
    He's always got that inkling
He knows that I'm by his side

My depressed bear is a special kind of friend
He's always there for me when I need a hand
My depressed bear gives me everything I need
'Cause he's a fine friend, indeed

He wants to do the impossible
He might wind up in a hospital
    Maybe he thinks too much?
    Maybe I'm just a crutch
He knows I'm always by his side."

I don't have the words to the other two at the moment; I think either Steve or Allen still has them. I'll post 'em when I get 'em. In the meantime, I'll be playing SMT: Nocturne until I have to work again

Sweet! Looking forward to The Answer... that song definately grew on me.
I like the Campus Crusaders for Crust, whereas I didn't immediately like Johnny White and the Columbine Kid and Spin Out and Crash... but I'll listen through them a few more times and then see if I either like them better or have any constructive criticism.
Wow at My Depressed Bear! I wouldn't have expected you to make such a song, but I like it. Very good work!

Fuck me if Static Martyr isn't the most solid and productive band around here! More than that, they also have a side-project, the Noise Machine. Great work on lyrics, they really deserve a special mentioning! How many songs have you written already in 6 months? 20-30 or more? Yet you still manage to surprise with some new experiments. This time it was Johny White (which is truly an experimental song) and My Depressed Bear which apparently is one of the catchiest tunes you ever done. Ska-Weezer-something else sound grows on you instantly. Spit out is a Noise Machine type song, Campus Crusaders is a classic Static Martyr one. Keep up the great work, Tim, Steve and Allen!

I think you should make a compilation with all your songs.

Thanks much, supportive people of the BBS! You are very much appreciated!

As for Spin Out and Johnny White....I actually like Johnny White alright the way it is (it gave me confidence in Allen's musical talent, because he wrote it, sang it, and played drums on it; all I did was play acoustic rhythm in the background). The only thing I really need to fix on that one is to pull back the drums a bit (they're kinda loud, and that odd frequency on the steel drum kinda distorts the chord progression), and to raise the acoustic guitar. The idea was to give it this old country barroom feel, just some powerful acoustic in the mix with a faint drum tick-tack, and some twangy vocals. I really shoulda messed with it before I uploaded it, but truth be told, after I finished mixing MDB and CCFC last night, I couldn't help but upload all four....I just love uploading new stuff, and I though, "Hey, why not upload four? That'll compensate for the downtime, right?" Hah~

But seriously, as for Spin out, I need to add a bass line and some keyboards to that one (and maybe some vocal lines), so it's kind of only half-done for the moment. See, when Steve and Allen are over, we tend to get the very basics of the track, but after they go home and I start mixing shit, I tend to play with things and add things and it sometimes becomes this completely different song. I had like 6 hours to work on MDB and another 2 to work on CCFC, whereas I've only worked on the other two for about 45 minutes to an hour, each.

Also, any criticism is always appreciated~ Hell, I'm just stoked that people took the time to listen to it in the first place!

Ah, I know now why Johnny White and Spin Out sounded so strange to me Spin Out indeed needs a bassline. And the vocals in Johnny White seem to not fit with the song imo, but maybe the guitar just needs to be a bit louder.

Alright, I fixed up Johnny White and Spin Out/Crash. Try these:

    Johnny White = http://www.sendspace.com/file/jcpqrp

^I pulled the volume back on the drums, and I also adjusted them so they were in the same key as the guitar and vocals. Someone pointed out (and rightly so) that the vocals didn't fit, but I played the guitar part specifically so that they would fit....which can only mean that the guitar is not prominent enough to imply the right progression, whereas the drums are too prominent and drown out the progression. So I upped the guitar and dropped the drums, and I left the vocals as they were. This should help greatly~

Spin Out and Crash = http://www.sendspace.com/file/33gqxh

I added a bass line and some overlapping funk guitar for this one....I really think it would benefit if we removed the keyboard lines during the verse, though....for some reason, I can't get them to wrap around the bass and guitar; they're just ever-so-slightly out of tune, in such a precise way that it's impossible to reconcile them by editing....if you notice, during the "it's all done/I hope you've had your fun" part, the bass and guitar are in perfect tune, whereas during the verse and chorus, the guitar seems out of tune. This is because of the keyboard's weird tuning. I asked for Steve's input on this, since he and I kinda collaborated on the keyboard part. If he's cool with it, I'll take it out because I think it muddies up the mix.
