I am not another The Offspring fan but just THE Offspring FAN !
Dexter Holland - "Which one of you goes by the screen name of RonWelty?"
Itīs not an interview, but itīs interesting
Quick: name the biggest-selling indie record of all time. At this point in history, it?s Smash, the 1994 album from The Offspring. It sold somewhere north of 15 million copies for Epitaph, the Orange County punk label. The Offspring sold millions of more records, too: Ixnay On The Hombre, Americana, Conspiracy Of One. More than 32 million in total. In other words, cashflow has been very good to The Offspring. This has allowed singer Dexter Holland to engage in his favourite hobbies. First, there?s stamp collecting (specifically those from the Isle of Man in the U.K.). If you?re a philatelist, you know how expensive that can be. I said ?philatelist?. Look it up. Then there?s Dexter?s passion for airplanes and flying. Here?s a quote: ?Some people are into golf, some people are into shooting deer. I?m into flying?. Dexter first got his pilot?s license back in 1996. Over the years, his certifications became more and more sophisticated. He owns a Citation 2, which is a twin-engine jet that can fly as high as 43,000 feet for 2,000 miles at a time. They run for about $2.5 million - used. Dexter calls it ?Anarchy Airlines?. The tail fin is painted with a logo and everything. Inside, the interior is decked-out in leopard prints. Oh, and there?s more. Dexter also flies an Aero Vodochody L-39, a Russian fighter jet. With some simulator time, he could also pilot a 747. And on November 25, 2004, Dexter completed a secret solo flight around the world. L.A.-New York-Iceland-Egypt-Dubai-Bangkok-Siberian Russia-Alaska-Home. Along the way, he ran into a volcanic eruption in Iceland, locusts in Egypt, and some very surly customs people in Russia who didn?t speak English. Can you imagine that? A jet with the ?Anarchy? on the tail lands at a remote Russian airport and this spiky-haired punk rocker walks out. The whole thing took 11 days, surviving mostly on beef jerky and Doritos. And while he was up there, letting the autopilot do all the work, Dexter wrote this song ?Can?t Repeat?. Weird wealth story number 8: Offspring singer Dexter Holland and his hideously expensive hobby of flying jets.
Haha. He has his spikes back. You can tell he wanted to get away from that guy and his impromptu interview, though.
