Thumbs up Random Music Advice Thread

I think we need a thread for people to ask for advice about any musical thing that comes to mind, ie answers to questions, recommendations, etc. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions, and I hope others will, too.

(My first question is coming soon)

Okay. I would consider myself a n00b guitarist. I know a thing or two about the actual playing part, but I’m completely clueless about equipment and such. So…

In the coming weeks, I plan to be in the market for a change of setup. I have kinda a lot of money to spend, but I really want to keep it under $600. I’ve narrowed my choices down to:

Line 6 Spider III HD150 Amp Head
    with
    Hartke GH412A Angled Cab

    or

    Crate V100H Head
, with the same cab. I've also considered the Behringer 4x12 Ultrastack, which is supposed to be super loud and sound great (but the wiring is not so great, a likely deal-breaker).
    ---------
Now. The Spider looks better to me, but the only reason the Crate is my choice so far is because it's all-tube. And I have a feeling that's wrong. Someone school me.

I don't know much about stacks, but from what I've seen out of Line 6 (I have a Line 6 Spider II 75 watt), they're a good choice. Especially as a head I'd think, since they have a lot of effects built in.

But, when I was in a musical program in school last year, the chick teaching us rented like 10 amps. My favorite was the Crate, because it was as small as those shitty amps you get in beginner guitar/amp combos, but it sounded great, and had a great overdrive. But I still ended up bringing in my Line 6 when we played the songs we came up with in the class at our christmas assembly. For the louder sound. I didn't have my Tube Screamer then, so I didn't get a great sound. I'm sure though if you actually sat and fiddled around for a bit you could find a good overdrive/distortion setting. Plus you can save the setting.

Thanks (for that and the pm). I watched a good YouTube video of a guy demoing HD150, and I loved what I heard. My choice would be a whole lot easier if I could find anything on the Crate, though. Only one review on the whole 'netz.

No problem. Line 6s are very dependable. Like check this out:

This is my Spider II. The knobs at the top are

1.Amp Model (There's Clean, Blues, Metal Etc. Theres 2 versions of each as well. like the clean has a straight clean setting and a one with chorus on it Etc.)
    2. Drive
    3. Bass
    4. Mid
    5. Treble
    6. Channel volume. (there's four programmable channels (the 4 black buttons above the previous 5 knobs))
    7. Chorus/Flange, Phaser, and Tremolo
    8. Delay, Tape Echo, and Sweep Echo. (That extra black button sets the time for the delay and stuff.)
    9. Reverb
    10. Master Volume.

Also theres some cool features. If you hold down the Delay time button and turn the Drive up all the way at the same time, you get a distortion boost. And If you just hold down that button, you get a built in tuner (that doesn't work if you have any of your pedals turned on though)

    I love it for that.

I don't know exactly what the head would have (especially since I've got a Spider II and thats the Spider III)

Tubes sound much better, but they don't last as long as solid state amps.

Ok, so I have a question of my own. The first guitar I ever bought is a Strat copy. So it wore out fast. I decided that I would basically rebuild it, and threw out everything but the body. So my question is, does anyone know a website where I could order a Fender Stratocaster logo, that's got a gold with black outline Fender logo, and I need to be able to send a check.

EDIT: Or, If anyone actually has a picture of it with a white background, that I could print on decal paper, post it here please .
