I actually prefer the first Thor too (though the second obviously improves on numerous individual things), though I'll never get the humor thing.

It's not excessive in this, and it's still less than all of the Iron Man movies, especially the third. There's some genuinely hilarious shit in this, and it flows well enough within the story without feeling forced or just jammed in there.

There's plenty of stuff to criticize about the movie, so much of it feels rushed and concepts just kind of sketched out without being fully realized, but it's lame how everyone seems to want the Marvel movies to be totally grim-dark Nolanesque affairs. Sometimes it gets a little forced, sure, like the two Iron Man sequels (though I love the third), but overall these guys are just following the "3 parts serious, 1 part joke" philosophy, which totally works.

The first movie's better because it's more substantive and directed by someone who gets the most out of actors, not because it has a couple less chuckles.

    End of Watch 9/10

Fucking good movie. The POV camera perspective really wasn't irritating in this movie as it is in most other films of the genre and the two leads give a pretty decent performance.

Escape Plan was saved by Arnold. No questions about it.
Just watched the remake/retelling of Evil Dead. Wasn't bad at all.

    Man of Steel

Thought it was pretty good. Though Michael Shannon totally steals every scene he's in. Liked Crow too.

    Elysium

Loved it - essentially a spiritual sequel to District 9

Movies like Elysium are interesting in the way they can divide people so strongly. People that I respect, that is. Intelligent people, with respectable taste.

I have yet to see it myself but I'm getting the idea I will feel strongly about it. One way or another.

Elysium is the opposite of District 9. D9 had well defined and charming characters in a rich and detailed universe.

In Elysium, Matt Damon wanted to go to Elysium.

Don't be fooled by Elysium's prettiness. (Also, most disappointing use of Sharlto Copley.)

Oblivion was way better, everyone should see that.
