    Default Great Depression Cooking

An old woman who grew up during the depression has a cooking series of brief videos that show you how to cook extremely inexpensive meals that her and her family ate during the depression. I find this particular series interesting because it's actually focused on good tasting stuff, not just being dirt cheap. Anyone know any legit good meals that are cheap?

When they said "sit down", I stood up.

Yeah, I knew that. People are just lazy.
I said, "Hi, Greg. I'm the creepy girl." He chuckled, then wanted a handshake and I gave it. I wanted a hug and he gave it. One of his sons was there, too. Cute. Then Pete got him to autograph my sign for me because I was too polite to ask myself since he was on his way to eat. Pete also took this of photo of him holding it. - 8/2/2014.

That is a lot of olive oil !

Iteresting though. And the lentils-rice thing looks good enough. I think I'll try that.

That's really neat, actually. I'm dirt poor and always looking for things to make that are filling but cheap. Checking out this lady's channel now....will definitely have to try some of that.

The surprising part to me is that this is informative to people. Nothing she made in the video was anything but obvious and easy. I've made all three courses of that meal before, though not at the same time because I generally don't make three-course meals at home. The fact that people need to be taught how to boil lentils and rice, fry meat in lemon juice, or toss lettuce with oil is really, really sad...

Working Class Foodies is a channel with cooking videos. "Local, seasonal, affordable. Homemade meals on a budget for all experience levels." It is not a channel that I follow but just watched a couple of videos. They are interesting enough.

What surprises me is that you think that everyone who watches that video knows nothing about budget meals and is learning for the first time, heh heh. Half of the video is learning about what that brave woman went through and hearing the stories she tells. Shame you are too above that to appreciate it. That's so disrespectful of you. Then again, that's really no surprise...

I didn't learn how to preheat an oven until I was probably 11-12. I'm one of the sad people who needs instruction on cooking. Well, I don't necessarily need it, but I feel much more confident with instruction, especially from old people.
I'm not supporting anything Melyssa says (nor am I attacking anything she says), I just thought I'd chip in my two cents, or two bits (I'm holding onto my pennies).

I'm interested in seeing this develop into a debate. Keep going.

Lol, how is that turning it into a debate? What is there to debate about? You are funny, haha. ^,^

Obviously, I know how to boil lentils and rice. I never thought about doing it at the same time

As someone said, it's not about the cooking lessons, it's about the ideas.
