    Default Evil Dead (2013) *Spoilers*

Has anyone else gone to see it yet? I saw it a couple weeks ago at a pre-screening. It is soooo gory. I liked it so much more than I expected to like it. The ending was a little meh, but I can appreciate that they didn't make a modernized carbon copy of the original. I'd definitely watch it again.

I had heard they were twisting the ending, but Mia becoming the new Ashe just didn't settle well with me. First off, my friends and I spent the last 20 minutes of the movie yelling at her brother for being a total dumbass. I mean, he was sitting there trying to revive his dead, possessed sister. Traditional horror movie rules would indicate that that would backfire horribly, but it doesn't and it's a total let-down.

And then, there is how the brother just walked away from his dead friend, tipping him over into the flooded floors of the basement instead of leaning him into the steps he's sitting on, totally disrespecting the corpse of the dude who saved his ass, like, 50 times in the movie. And the movie people want you to think he's just dead, except, home skillet dumped him into the flooded basement waters that are probably full of dead cat stank and so, of course he is then possessed.

And why in the fuck would anyone stay in a house where they just discovered a basement full of dead cats hanging from the ceiling with remnants that clearly indicate some sort of creepy ritual. And why is it that no one but Mia could smell the dead cats until they opened the basement door? I mean... you'd think you'd smell the death stank from the driveway, right?

And why was this demon that they unintentionally summoned so slow and easy to kill? She spent all this effort running away from something as slow as an arthritic grandma and killed it in a matter of seconds? Why would there be this book dedicated to a demon whose Earthly body is so mortal? What makes it book worthy?

I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm hoping it's not crappy. I still prefer the old movie

I really, really hate remakes. This is admittedly one of the better ones, as it's not just rehashing the same thing even though it's using the same general premise. Still...ugh.

Drag Me To Hell and Cabin In The Woods are about the only awesome recent horror flicks, and even then Cabin's more like an awesome tribute movie. Still, the news that Raimi's apparently in the early stages of planning an "Army of Dead II" of sorts is pretty freakin' promising. All of these new directors seem to film everything the same way, and rely on all the cheap gore scares. This wasn't Eli Roth torture-porn bad, but it's pretty bland.

Though, I did see a pre-screener of Iron Man 3 the other night. So that's getting rid of the bitter aftertaste pretty well. 3's awesome, the tone's way more "Lethal Weapon/Die Hard" too, just with the cussing and graphic blood reigned in.
